+swecalf I think he's saying that people are brought up to believe that Christianity, and what the the bible says, are actually true. If you aren't brought up to believe that, then chances are you won't have big issues with homosexuality.

Basically, it all comes down to differences in culture: American (and by extension, Christian) society is a "guilt culture" that condemns homosexuality as 'sinful', while Japanese society is a "shame culture" that ostracizes homosexuals as 'non-conforming'. At least, that's the basic principle I'm picking up on. [BTW, I'm aware that "guilt culture" and "shame culture" are contested categories.]

In US Lincoln abolished slavery system in 1862. In Thailand Chulalongkorn (Rama V) abolished it in 1905. South Africa and Australia used to be well known to have racial discrimination policy but these are land of colonization. In Japan slavery and low caste untouchable existed among Japanese themselves (not prisoner of war nor alien), but nobody paid any attention at all, just ignored. This shows us that Japanese need someone to discriminate or look down on among themselves or against alien.

Slavery, caste system and racial discrimination. Mogol deal with this kind of social problem the best way. Mongol has wisdom,experience and courage to cope with this kind of difficulty with good maneuvering. Thailand also do well but he has Chinese matter in Bangkok that makes situation in Thailand a bit complicated. In Japan no Chinese matter and very few other races than Japanese. But Japan makes slavery, caste system and racial discrimination among Japanese. Very silly, isn’t it ?

Historically, traditionally and socially Japan is not equal, open nor free land. 70 years ago slave named NUHI existed and low caste untouchable people called ETA or HININ existed. Japanese did not emancipate them yet, Constitution given by US did, not by Japanese themselves. Now of YAKUZA, organized crime gangster, more than half of them are ex-slave or ex-low caste people. But be careful it is a nature of humankind, not just Japan, but any other country on the earth is the same.
