Go study the fucking lyrics, hes doing more then youv ever done. Rap has a image of being very gritty and hard core only about crime or the ghetto. This man and Kanye West adding some taste to it, he is basically showing how rap and art are now synonyms. Stop hating on people pushing the boundaries of music. If it wasn't for Kanye west,Jay z,Drake, rap would still be considered gritty music and not polished. Because of rappers like them rap is becoming more universal, more ppl can relate to it.

Stfu and go listen to your music, don't comment on music you don't understand trying to seem smart. They are changing hip hop, making it more artistic that's the bottom line. No one is trying to copy your choice of "Music". Kanye has always made different music, go listen to all his albums. No one wants to compare hip hop to your music. Also, hip hop on it's own is more artistic than any other form of music, because of the content. It's base is poetry which makes it better than any other music.

efforts seem laughable. MCHG along with Yeezus are not the high art they are trying to be because their ideas (Though good in the realm of hip hop) cant hold a candle to what exists in the scope of art music. As for universality, Id argue hip hop became known around the world in the 90's; I don't see how their current stuff is anymore relatable to people than earlier music when they had a struggle. What a joke! next it will be Justin Bieber at Gagosian and Britney Spears at White Cube? That's the end of the Pace gallery's credibility. It's called 'scrapping the bottom of the barrel' . The NY art market is down and Shanghai's is up , as is Rio and Sao Paulo. This is like saying" Hey how can we make some noise, because we don't have an idea." Jay Z will be who in 10-15years?A rich hasbeen. That is a fact. Great art is beyond time, this will be hasbeen in less then a decade if not already.

I'm currently attending Berklee (Boston) for Composition/Jazz studies so most likely I'm doing more than YOU ever WILL, and I think I have a background to form an opinion. Both hip hop and jazz are connected at the roots and suffered much the same scrutiny. Furthermore, any one of these snobs would be amazed after an hour in the studio with Jay, Ye, Dr. Dr, Pharrell etc. Art is purely about interpretation. So all the debate that artists like Jay Z and Kanye evoke is the most obvious proof of their sheer artistic greatness. They are trend setters who have fans from the gutter to the penthouse. These "high minded" artsy fartsy fucks will always look down their noses at hip hop, but the culture will only grow, thrive, and expand its influence.

well, you are saying 10-15 years, and he has already been in for 2 decades, so you're talking about a nearly 40 year rap career if that is the case and I would say even if he is a rap has been in 15 years, I'd say he did fairly well and hung on for a little while anyway. I know just shy of 4 decades isn't much, what with the Stones and McCartney each in their 5th decade but hey, what a loser he is. hip hop, you listen to classical music and jazz, they might be connected in the roots but are complelty different. I'm Pretty sure you are not studying hip hop at your university. Take time and study hip hop then comment, in the 90's people like NWA, Nas, Biggie and 2pac were big. What did all of them have in common? their musical content, they all spoke about the life in the ghetto's of america. Now They talk about motivation, Love, Emotions, and at points about their success. STFU

People from all walks of life can listen to them, rather then only kids from "Compton". Music is evolving and changing because of people like jay-z so stop hating and get educated.

In fact, your tone is exactly the attitude Picassos' critics had towards his work: that what he was doing wasn't really art, that it was an awful deviation from the established norms in what art should be. Hip Hop is no more or less art than any other form of music. Those who gloss over content and are ignorant of the skill it takes will always condescendingly describe it's artistic value. This is only the latest feeble effort to marginalize a culture that is now global and mainstream. They're mad because a once obscure US street culture has become a giant.

Art needs to be destroyed and rebuilt again. This should not have been aloud to happen. The millionaires need to be taken a big step down. The authority of the artist needs to be reestablished as something serious and challenging and not made by any tom dick and harry.
