Trying to get better gas mileage out of the Saturn. Update 5/10/15, the gas milage stayed the same or went down slightly. Going to try a third set of plugs.
My 2003 Saturn Ion had 109,000 I think on it and never been changed. I put
the most expensive plugs in before I didn't have good throttle response and
my city mpg was 17 it went up to 30 mpg city after the plug change
+British_Leyland(Alexscott100) I just picked up an '04 Quad Coup 3 for the wife which has 149K on it. No idea what the plug wear is but if your numbers are true then that's badass! Right now my concern is the busted windshield wiper linkage.
I always pull the plugs out when the engine is "warm" as it requires a
fraction of the torque to break them loose (lower risk of thread damage). I
think the issue is if you install plugs on a hot engine you will easily
over tighten them so a cold engine for the install is ideal. Interested in
your thoughts here.
If you install an oil catch can the plugs will stay a lot cleaner which has
to help with mileage. I like to run a catch cans on my cars.
+Robonza My thought is the hole was drilled and tapped when the head was cold. When the head is hot it is expanded and distorted which may lead to thread issues.
Thank you so much for your videos, they are very well done but I can't seem
to see how it is that you are making the belt loose enough to slip off. Do
you have a wrench on the piece that is moving at the very beginning of the
video?
I have a 97 sl2 and was wondering if this could be a tribute to my lights
(all in and out) flickering when I accelerate and at idle. I was to check
connections and grounds and it does this sometimes but not a lot or really
last long.
yep, and I found it to be just a loose connection with the positive terminal on the battery :) and I also cleaned up the ground connections Thanks for the helpful video.
Hey Rich, I live your videos. You have helped me out countless times. Would
you know of any other stock gm alternators that will bolt up? I know the
wireing is going to be different. I'm looking for something with more
power!
My Saturn SL2 1993 won't crank over, the battery is good and the radio and
lights come on and stuff, but the engine just won't crank over. I've put a
new fuel pump in, and I was wondering if it is possible for the Alternator
to be bad?
Also the fuel pump doesn't have any pressure behide it to, so is it possible that there isn't enough or any gas getting to the engine to cause it to ignite to turn the engine over....
+richpin06a Yeah, its sounds like it wants turn over, but it doesn't all it does is wide up when i turn the ignition key.....We've done that fuel pump trouble test and everything is above 12.20 volts, so we know we have plenty of voltages getting to the fuel pump.....
You'll be amazed at how much easier it is to remove exhaust bolts when you
apply heat. Although oxyacetylene is best, I know you've got limited
resources. A small propane torch would be about $20, and better than
nothing. Just be wary about where you point it.
