trabalha valeu.

Obviously you can disregard the comments about replacing the timing chain
every 60 or 70k. Timing belts? Now that is a different story. Most of those
should be replaced around the 90-100k mark - but the chain should only be
replaced if you start to hear a ticking sound similar to a failed lifter. A
stethoscope on the time chain cover can identify it every time. The Jeep
4.0 chain should last the life of the engine assuming that the engine is
properly serviced. I have 220k on my '04 4.0 in my Grand Cherokee and it
runs like new. Of course I use nothing but royal purple and change It every
4000 miles. Some things you have to do like repair sources of oil leaks.
You can rest assure that the rear main seal will need to be replaced
between 100 and 150k. Same thing with the valve cover gasket...otherwise
the 4.0 is just about bullet-proof.
That's a lot of slack...just replace it. Also for people that don't know
how to check for chain slack without having to tear into the engine I'll
tell you the easy and 5 minute way to check for timing chain
slack.....first take your distributor cap off....then put a socket on the
harmonic balancer and super slowly turn over the engine...watch the rotor
on the distributor to see how much slack before it starts to turn....the
rotor should turn immediately as you turn the engine over.
I have replaced it. The new chain and sprokets have very little pay
compaired to the old one. I've heard similar stories of people on the same
chain for over 300,00 on the 4.0s but this one was a bit worn even though
the rest of the engine looks really clean including the cylinder walls and
valves. No idea if it misses since it's a junk yard engine. Won't know till
I get it in. Dist cap looked ok but I cracked a point so I repaced it.
Dunno about the dist itself.
@srpope80 I didn't have any noise since I got the engine from the junk
yard. I was striping it down and changing out anything that looked worn.
It's pretty cheap to do and not that hard even when the engine is still in
the bay. If you have this amount of slack or worse, than I'd say replace
it. Just remember to center it top dead when you change it out. See if you
can borrow a timing gun too.
I have a jeep 4.0 with 251,000 miles on mine never went out yet, the timing
chain with let you know if its bad by back firing sounding like shot gun
blast.if you see wear on teeth replace it..if your engine misses after
rebuild, get rid of your whole distuributer replace.you should get at least
600,000 mile out of it if you don't dog it.good luck.MOPAR Mechanic shop
told me so.
turn the crank/hold the cam. on the baggy side, lay a steel rule at mid
span. pull away. note measure. push other way, note measure. compare when
you put your new gears and chain on. you will see that the bagginess on the
baggy side is only a few mm's. 3 degrees of crank turn before rotor turns
is max timing variation. happy jeepin
there should be a mark on both sprokes to help line it up and the manual i
have says no more then like a half inch of slack on one side so get one
side tight the other loose and then check it... im having bad trouble with
the distributor in mine right now cant figure out how to fix it anything
will help if you know...
It's not really bad should last you another hundred thousand miles but
since its out if you want to replace it they should be dimples on marks on
the gear set align them together pull off the gears with the chain together
and install the new set not a big thing . but the chain has normal play
The reason i mention the distuributer a lot of people think if the engine
shaking or stumbles, they need to adjust the timing or replace timing
chain.the distuributer gear shaft go bad and cause engine to miss.but your
mite be ok
you should never replace a timing chain unless is leaking.. now timing belt
is another story those thing should be replace every 60k, miles but a
timing chain should last the live of the car.
@ejayerik Did you have any noise from that chain? I have a lot of slack in
my chain as well and my engine is making a ticking noise that I'm pretty
sure is the cause.
@myfagan Did you get it figured out? Let me know if you didnt. I just did a
head, new cam, lifters, timing chain and gears, water pump, etc..on my 98
zj.
jesus christ .... the guy is not moving his car at all thats why , jeep do
not have a 100 km consumption and is having a instant consumption of diesel
thats why ...
