I'm Dutch. This is an utter waste of energy. Super inefficient. They might as well make a roof over the bike lane and stick conventional panels to it. So we ride dry. And there is no solar surface to surface use as road. Set up to fail. Green tech worldwide is focusing on BS application. As far as the eye can see NO WINDMILLS. No panels on roofs. No panels on building facades. No solar windows on skyscrapers. But a bike lane with build in low-efficiency, high-cost solar? I am really ashamed...

+crzykd The solar bike lane roofs rather than road surface would ADD top efficiency and easily accessed capacity rather than draw resources away from existing free surface. And, new roofs could be built to be angled south. The road surface, especially in NL, is very, very flat, effective pointing to where the sun doesn't shine.But since the roofs would need a supporting structure, first existing roofs need to be totally covered in solar.

Roads will be a great place to stick solar on....but only after ALL (and I mean all) the other surfaces have been used up. I dare to wager that less than 1 out of 1000 roofs is utilized for solar. And yet, solar from a roof a more efficient way to go about it. Not only is the power per square meter better, durability will be better also. At vastly lower cost.You can use titanium for a table spoon, and it works, but stainless steel works also and is cheaper. To intentionally WASTE resources on solarizing a bike lane is so BACKWARDS to the whole point of using solar to begin with...
