+fivebythree They were genuinely not prepared for such weather. They had no salt trucks or plowing trucks. It was a big surprise to them. Imagine NYC getting struck by a tornado, we would not know what to do because we aren't used to such weather. In Atlanta, Georgia they get tornado's all the time and are very efficient at recovering themselves from such weather.
As we know, the snow in Atlanta was a plot by Obama to embarrass the
Republicans in Georgia who have always been vigilant. Obama directed HAARP
in Alaska to send down snow during the rush hour.
Ha ha
The only problem with this comment is that somebody will think it's true
+Bryce Powell You might need to read a little closer into county by county voting. That's a fact. Last time I drove through Atlanta was part of Georgia. That's kind of like old Hillary saying "what does it matter now that Americans died and I was asleep at the switch?" It matters. This Repub. governor admitted his mistake and took responsibility. Old "looks like a man" Hillary deferred. Just because they color the map red doesn't mean everyone voted red.
+Football5198 He did say republicans in Georgia not Atlanta. What difference does it matter about who was governor before?? It's a republican now and has been for a decade!! Georgia has been a "RED" state for 50 years Now those are facts!!Like many other southern states, its residents were conservative Democrats that went “red” in 1964 in response to unhappiness over the Civil Rights Act,Georgia has been reliably Republican since
Have you checked the facts before you wrote this? Atlanta (proper) hasn't had a Republican Mayor since 1942. The governor (Nathan Deal) was a Democrat when elected to the House of Rep. They haven't had a Republican governor until 2003. Before that a stretch (1872-2003) of governors were all Democrats. Do I believe that Obama is God (contrary to his own beliefs)? No. No need to let facts get in the way right?
I understand the issue was underlying ice caused the problem and public
works is not prepared to handle the ice or didn't have time. As a
southerner I take offense to the off hand snide remarks regarding
southerners. I have always enjoyed your show however a time or two like
this and you can hang it up. Don't guess you care about your subscribers.
They pick on us Southerners to take the spotlight off themselves for awhile. I didn't have a bit of trouble moving around in the snow (it's called common sense). The local media (most of whom are transplants from Northern states) make a HUGE deal out of snow. Then in summer, they make an even BIGGER deal out of the heat. Have you ever seen a Northern transplant out in his yard in August? Me either. They run for the shade like salamanders when the temps start hitting 95 and above......You remember "SUPER" Storm Sandy? How did they handle that? Come South y'all where we dodge real storms like that every summer.
+Bryce Powell I could say that Johnny Manziel has good morals and was taught growing up how to treat people, including his coach, with respect and put it on impressive letterhead, but that doesn't make it true. Did you know that while we were having a very mild winter two years ago (and everyone was screaming global warming"), Alaska was having record snowfall and record cold. Cold and snow never seen before in history, period. I didn't see it reported anywhere in the media. I guess it doesn't fit the narrative so it was excluded. Just because A&M published this doesn't mean I will run screaming "global warming, it's true! ".

CNN's Phillips: City of Atlanta screwed up
Stranded on a highway for hours, CNN's Kyra Phillips responds to Atl. Mayor Kasim Reed's interview with Carol Costello.
There's a really cool thing that happens in the morning on several TV and
radio stations. They do this thing that's like a morning show and there's a
weather man and everything. I listen to it every morning while i have
coffee and get ready, it's so cool. I heard the forecast and so my husband
and I called in sick, kept our kids home, went sledding all day in our back
yard and roasted marshmellows. It was a great family day for us! What
happened?
You know what else is really cool? Integrity. Integrity that you and your husband obviously lack. Why not call in miscellaneous? Neither of you were sick. While I get what you are saying, why not call in and say, "Hey boss, hey. Listen. I will not be in today. Weather is horrid."
I have to agree, its bad forecasting! I am a native of Atlanta Vicinity.
But now live in Parkersburg WV! On feb 2, 2014 we got a weather report
saying we were getting 1-3 inches of snow, woke up the next morning with a
foot and a half of snow! So, play the blame game CNN all you want, when the
blame really stems from the Whitehouse! The Obama Administration is
breaking the nation! People can't afford to fund their home states because
Obama can't keep his hands out of We The People's Pockets! But, No, ya'll
don't want to go there!! Just have to pick on the smaller man, and have a
fall guy! CNN is not a peoples news, its run by the government and for the
government! My advice is to stop following CNN and watch Alternative News
created by the people and for the people! Want answers? That's the only
place to get the real truth!
If you would've clearly read my ENTIRE message, you would know exactly what I'm saying. The crazy thing is, even after we got the foot and a half of snow, they are still saying we only got 4-5 inches. But to be clear so you can understand, the government is breaking America, cities can't afford to fund themselves the Obama Administration is breaking the states, and CNN downplays everything with regards to Obama!
Kyra is speaking before she has enough facts.
The mayor doesn't decide if schools will be closed or if people will stay
home from work. The superintendents of schools decide if kids will go to
school and businesses decide if their employees need to come in so the
mayor doesn't decide these things. Oh,and individual people decide if they
really need to be out on the road during a coming snow storm.
The very same thing happened in Atlanta in 1982. I thought the leaders
THEN decided that there would be staggered closings in any future calamity.
We have no municipal or regional memory, much less legal bases for
decisions to be taken. We all knew that this was possible, and even the
school systems, if the excuse for lack of leadership is possible financial
impact, have snow days built in the schedules. Lack of critical thinking,
thinking about their political positions, etc., caused this. Shame on the
leaders who were thinking about themselves and their careers. They all put
the safety of children, the elderly, and the entire community at risk, and
now won't accept the responsibility for their actions., Now how much of a
financial impact have they created??? SHAME!!
I remember the 1982 storm. The same thing happen. When I saw that this storm was suppose to be at its peak at 01:00am it was 25 degrees and majority of the major school district was remaining open. I thought this spells trouble. But To be fair. The weather men was all over the place. They were saying that the major hit would be south of the metro area. Places like griffin, LaGrange and Macon. possibly Newnan, clayton and Fayette. they were saying that Atlanta could possibly see 1 or 2inches. They weren't giving any type of warning like road icing up and driving being treacherous like they would normally do. They just said that the system was still changing. Now I know this because Atlantans panick at the very mention of snow. So for all those people dropping their kids off at school, going to work, etc you know their had to be a conflict in the way the weather people was reporting this. The weather people ended up being totally wrong when they originally thought that this would be a south or central Georgia event. It effected all of north and central Georgia first wrecking havoc on 75 from downtown to the Tennessee/ Georgia border, I 20 down Atlanta to the Georgia/ Alabama border. When it hit, it hit fast and hard and everyone went scrambling to cars to pick up their kids or trying to make it home. I am kicking myself in the ass because I predicted that this would be another snow jam 82. But I thought maybe it wont be too bad. This was actually worst. Atlanta has way more people then in 82. I thought we learned our lesson.
No she and most of the media have miss represented somethings with this.1. As mayor of Atlanta Kasim Reed has no jurisdiction over clearing the interstates.2.Many of the gridlock images being shown are actually from outside Atlanta and not in the city itself. The media is making "Metro Atlanta" out to be Atlanta the city itself. This is lazy reporting on the part of the news media and is causing Kasim to catch more heat on this than he deserves.
