This is my cat Ally. She will be 20 years old in May of 2010. Ally has been very healthy for most of her life. Not until 2009, did she begin to develop some health ...
If a cat can get a "disorder" then it is from being locked in an apartment
(probably not in your case), or stuck into a cage and taken to a doctor who
causes him pain. I believe most of the "disorders" are from real physical
causes, and any pills or vitamins cannot "cure" them anymore than, for
example, alcohol.
+Kayenne54 I used the Lavender herb where he slept. But no longer. Rocky improved so much he is the exactly opposite of what they thought of him before. Goldie is a very playful kitten still and gets on Rocky's nerves sometimes. But I noticed with vitamins they get along well. They always did get along, expect when Goldie kinda over did it with jumping around too much. I like Rocky because he is so different now and no one ever thought he would change. He's a very good cat.
+syyenergy7 Oh, and may I ask how you're using the Lavender? A great essential oil, but two others which also help with emotional states and stress are Rose Geranium (Pelargonium roseum) and Lime essential oil. Lime is especially useful if someone obsesses about things. Which cats can do, if they are stressed. I've used these oils as drops around the house, or in a diffuser. Or even around the area near the litter tray. The other thing I've found really useful is Diatomaceous Earth (Food Grade). A light sprinkle in their bedding, on the litter tray, safely kills off fleas. Apparently a little in their food occasionally (you'd have to look up the recommended amounts per bodyweight) also helps eliminate internal parasites. Make sure its FOOD GRADE, not that stuff they use in swimming pool filtration. I also dust my chickens with it, and sprinkle liberally in their straw bedding. Great stuff.
+syyenergy7 Taurine is good for the nervous system, particularly useful for cats, often milk for cats contains that supplement. Also the extra attention (giving him "treats") would help. And maturity might be kicking in for him (and cats like routine). I had the care of a grown cat who had been feral as a kitten; loud noises, turning a fan on, even something on the TV would freak him out. Just having someone around who was consistent, having a routine, and lots of love (and not making a fuss of him after his reaction to the sound of a plastic bag rustling! pretending that nothing had happened) eventually settled him down a lot. Though he never got completely over his wariness with plastic bags (I suspect he might have been dumped in one) he became a much calmer cat after a few years with me, and the most loving animal I've ever had. He hardly ever meowed (common in feral cats, because cats in the wild don't vocalize very much, its a learned behaviour; they learn to "talk" to humans)...but he had the loudest purr. Your cats are looking glossy and healthy; you're doing a great job.
+j7ndominica0 Yeah, the more I think about it the foster who had this cat did not treat him right. BUT, lavender and vitamins and music did help his mood a lot. He gets a little more vitamins now and I noticed even more improvement. It might just be because he feels strong and healthy and that is why his mood is great now.

Cat recovers from vestibular disease
Our cat Billy was striken with vestibular disease Dec. 20. This video shows his progression to getting better. Still is lopsided when he runs and currently can't ...
i took my 1 month old kitten to the emergency room ( first vet emergency
the animal hospital) i showed them the website about vestibular disease.
Both docs said my kitten was too young and she had to be put to sleep last
night! After watching your video..it still looks like the kitty had this.
She was fine then very quickly her head went to the side,,,, her eyes were
very unfocused and she started to vomit. i am just venting and depressed
;-(
My cat was diagnosed with this 2 days ago. We thought he was having a
stroke or a seizure. The vet did some blood work, and said everything
looked normal, then prescribed a half a non-drowsy dramamine tablet. We
gave it to the cat at bedtime, stuffing it in a treat, and by morning, he
was back to being perfectly normal!!! We've given him 2 tablets so far,
and the symptoms have not come back at all. He seems so much happier and
active now! So if anybody's cat is suffering from this, give the Dramamine
a try - it works!
Ill have to ask my vet just to make sure..but I will try this. We thought ours was also having a stroke or seizure. He was so scarred he literally released his bowels as soon as it happened and kept meowing/screaming. It was on a Sat so we rushed him to an emergency clinic and had to pay $95. They were trying to make us pay $1000 to keep him over night and do blood work saying that he could die and etc. I looked it up online and talked to my vet before we did this and thank god I did or we would have lost $1000 for nothing really.

Cat Walking in Circles
16 year old Pixie begins persistently walking in circles. Vet gives a diagnosis of vestibular disease. She was treated with prednisone and antibiotics. She also ...
+Jabeen Syed If it is the same problem my vet felt Pixie had, it is an inner ear problem called labyrinthitis. I do not believe it is considered serious but I'm not an expert.
+Jabeen Syed I brought her to the vet the next morning and she was given prednisone and antibiotics, and the symptoms resolved. She lived 3 more years after that, had one more episode like this a few months before she died which was also treated with prednisone. The medication seemed to work for her but from what I understand they also weaken the immune system, so if you have a holistic vet or homeopathic vet that might be a better route to go.
+Sandra Palmer It's ok. I posted in case someone had a similar issue. There is information in the description about what the diagnosis and treatment were.
+Sandra Palmer I did, this was 5 years ago. She recovered from this episode and lived a couple more years, she was nearly 19 years old when she passed.
