FAscinating and speaks volumes. A birth mother can identify her baby by scent An adoptive mother can be actually repelled by the scent of a child she has to care for. The scent factor in the first stages also opens neural pathways which respond to all manner of signalling. Once the window of opportunity for these openings is passed, it is difficult to reopen. The child does not read subtle signals so well and this extends into adulthood.
