AI, Transhumanism, Merging with Superintelligence + Singularity Explained
Artificial Intelligence, the possibility of merging consciousness with computers, and singularity are discussed in this mind expanding conversation with Dr. Susan ...
+ArcadeGames AIs are very intelligent and if they dislike us or think they are superior to us, it would be the other way around y know...if they end up w/ a will...which is soooooooooooooooooo never gonna happen right I mean only God can make a will...UNLESS they use witchcraft.....
If the human species manages to destroy its environment to the point that
brings on its extinction, then the human species was never intelligent to
begin with. Good riddance.
+Dimensions100 Do I want kids to die or sumthin? How the fuck did you infer that? You don't seem terribly bright so I won't burden you with a response.
+James White "So if we just so happen to live on a earth with many many more resources that caused us not to go extinct we would be worthy of exsitence ?"You utterly missed the point. The point is: We have one planet's worth of resources and we have squandered, wasted, and polluted nearly all of it. If you were stranded on an island with no hope of rescue and you had a finite amount of food, would you eat all of it immediately or would you ration it? The current infinite growth paradigm is unsustainable, yet it continues. We are running out of oil, fresh water, and arable land. Oil companies want profits, therefore, we still use oil. Desalinization plants are too expensive to build and power, so there goes that idea. High-rise hydroponic/aeroponic farms are considered science fiction (even though they exist) and would solve the planet's food problem but, again, too expensive.I agree that technology must push humanity forward but there's one huge thing standing in our way: money. Technology will only advance so far until the money runs out. Then it will stop. Money and and the desire for profit will be humanity's downfall. Meanwhile, our technology will rot on the vine.
+Aubrey Bryant So if we just so happen to live on a earth with many many more resources that caused us not to go extinct we would be worthy of exsitence ? And I don't think we will go extinct simply because the way in which technology is progressing. Our only chance at this point is to progress technology as quickly as possible.
+Aubrey Bryant Making mistakes is not inherently a sign of a lack of intelligence. Nor is it reflective of the entire (apparently dead, now ;p) species.Your using the internet contributes significantly to the usage of Earth's resources and emission of carbon. But you would consider this a necessary waste of resources in order to pursue a higher goal (in this case, posting about how much resources we use on a YouTube vid ;p). Why couldn't the same be said for consumers attempting to bring about the most potential-riddled technological revolution in history?Eradicating natural death and allowing access to unlimited migratory potential (between planets, even galaxies) could be considered the single most defining achievement of mankind, surpassing extinction for ever. At least, until we define some kind of universal threat. It all comes down to risk vs reward.
+James White "If". I wrote "*If* the human species manages to destroy its environment..." We're well on our way to doing so. If humans go extinct, it'll most likely be because we will have brought it on ourselves. If humans cause their own extinction, then that should be a clear indication to the rest of the universe that humans were not worthy of existence. Species become extinct every day. Why should humans be the exception to that? We're the only animal on the planet that is polluting its habitat and using up resources to the point where, very soon, it will no longer be able to sustain us. If humans continue to use up resources as we have, we will need four-and-a-half Earths in order to sustain us. We don't have four-and-a-half Earths. We don't even have one Earth anymore.
i disagree about the soul aspect. it doesnt sound like neither of them are
talking about "souls" metaphorically, but in a spiritual, cloudy kinda way.
the question is rather, are we able to recreate our selfs digitally, of 1s
n 0s, or other tech-eternal ways? like a bio-computer, or why not just a
quantum computer.

If we discovered a tech that would let man live forever why do you people
think this will be given to anyone other than the elite and wealthy? You
will all be slaves to the elite with no room for advancement because the
elite will be your dictators hording their positions. There will be no more
democracy because the Elite will view themselves as GODS.
+Kola K Look around my friend. Secrets are impossible to keep in the world we live in. Someone will leak it out. Always does. Plus, all the incentives are that both governments and insurance companies will want to pay for that because it is actually cheaper, much cheaper, than dealing with old and sick people for decades on.
Could someone please explain to me why Nikola seems to insist in
USA-Canada_Europe as some clearly distinct civilization from the rest of
the world? Or am I imagining things? Anyway; Regards from "south"-america
+derasor Germany used to be vastly atheist and agnostic. Not anymore because of religious people moving in. Problems arise everywhere. I don't know how Muslims view technology but Christians, in particular the fundamentalists are against science and technology.
+derasor Most people you'll meet believe in those concepts so much that if you even suggest an alternative you are labeled a terrorist. It may not change anytime soon.
+Nicki LovesDogs that is a good point, but I am not convinced that is the case. Religious superstition and ill-defined economic incentives plague societies alike regardless of geography or genetics. It is more like a global cultural hurdle.
+derasor Of course that they are. Or at least they should be. But look around my friend - unfortunately mine and your opinion seem to be a tiny minority in a world obsessed with artificial differences ;-(
Ok Nikola. Thank you for your words. I just think concepts of nationality, race and religion are outdated. We should focus more on our commonalities as humans, and as transhumanists. Anyway, I am an admirer of your work, so kudos!
+derasor I don't insist on any such thing my friend. I do have a perception that there are differences however in different parts of the world. But, as always, this is more of an open question and a conversation point, rather than a statement. So, of course, the interviewee or anyone else can agree or disagree with both the perception and the question ;-)
After my experience I actually like the idea, because it assumes people have basic needs. You still have to go outside of yourself to a degree to get what you want, so it is not lazy. Sure I have seen stories of those who misuse socialistic systems. If the right people maintain the system it is a good idea. If people just take an entitled look at the opportunity then that's bad. Personally I would use the money to make my live and the lives of those I knee who ask me better.
Usually for small parties to grow the leadership and it's core members have
to be activists and tackle big problems that the majority wants solved. But
in this case the aging problem isn't considered a problem by the majority.
So maybe the party could focus on other things as well. Whatever is big in
America. Terrorism for example now is big everywhere. How would the
Transhumanist Party solve that problem?
+Aging Reversed Sell people a better vision than what the terrorists everywhere. Would you rather blow yourself up for 72 virgins or explore the universe and live thousands or millions of years?
Well obviously if you see a problem such as that the ethical decision would be to do something. The problem I see in The news and history is that violence seems to breed more violence. at least that's the narrative. Maybe we should talk about popular and healthy things in America and be careful what we mix in. Obviously if someone wants to talk about it, it would be kind to say something, but it would probably be wise to focus on the most important goals and getting people interested in the fulfillment of those first.
