Supertanker FRONT DRIVER beaching itself at Gadani Pakistan.
Supertanker named FRONT DRIVER, built in 1991 by Hyundai Heavy Industries South Korea (and owned by Frontline Management of Norway) - Now at the end ...
+Vincent MORIN - A ship of this size is all gone in about 90 days (if not less). Not a trace of it will be left anywhere on the beach afterwards, not even a tiny screw. Thus clearing the path for another ship to beach itself on the same spot...
Love the music. Who composed it? The part i'am talking about starts around
13:08 and goes towards the end. very haunting and very excellent. thank
you. it starts with a piano intro and then the drums come in. blows my
mind...
+Jane Cimino - I said it before to you guys over here so many times... I DON'T KNOW!!! I just got a DVD from China which said "royalty free music", it was full of MP3s, and so I picked one at random, (there was no title or name, just a number for each MP3 file) - SO I really have no clue...
Camera work could stand to improve. Far too much shaking, meaningless
zooms, and such short cuts that the view cannot orient to the subject story
line. Typical of so many casual productions.
+chuanist - Well, I have never ever claimed to be a pro at this??? I mean, I have another life dude, video making is just an internet hobby. I am also not an animator, I just used AutoCAD for the animations you see in this videos (as AutoCAD is what I use in my regular line of work)... Also note that driving over 40 to 50 kilometers over dirt roads, from Karachi city to Gadani beach (exiting the home in the dark before sunrise), will take a toll on anybody. Besides, I had to use zoom as going too near could have resulted in my fatality. Also there was no place to mount my tripod either in the soft sand. And wherever I would stand to take a shot, I always had to watch my back, (or I could have been run-over by a bulldozer). I was just 1 guy with a camera, who had to capture all of this, so that's another reason why I had to keep moving - As there is no "action replay" in real life. If you think you can really do better under the exact same circumstances, then feel free to come over to Gadani beach shoot your own video!
+Stephen Smith - Hard to tell exactly. Because some breaking yard owners (who have got some financial holding power & physical space too) find these times easy to buy ships for scrap cheaply. They buy chips at a low price, but hold the cut up scrap on their yards until the price goes high in a few years, (or until they run out of physically space to keep all that steel). So this way they stand to profit a lot. But other breaking yard owners who either don't have as much financial muscle or don't have enough space to store their freshly cut up steel - End up suffering a little... The fall in steel prices (as I'm sure you too must know) is because China started to export their surplus steel. However their surplus stock isn't going to lost forever - So those who can play the waiting game, know that prices will eventually go back up again. Which is why it is very hard to say how is are the falling prices effecting this industry in Pakistan. in India and Bangladesh however it's a different story, as many of them don't have this kind of holding power. So they indeed are suffering. But over here I'd say that it's business as usual, more or less...
FAR too much telephoto. Telephoto also exaggerates camera shake, which is
very bad here. Get a tripod or something to rest the recorder on that you
can carry with you..
+chanctonbury63 - Watch till the end of the video, and you'll see me holding a tripod with my camera (with which shot this whole video). I understand your complaints, but just imagine - That I first had to drive myself for over 3+ hours, and that too for 40 to 50 kilometers (over uneven roads) all the from Karachi city. I actually exiting my home before sunrise, and arrived at Gadani beach when the sun was fully up in the sky. On top of this I then had to record this video, (with already tired hands) - Yes I had a tripod, but nowhere to mount it, as I was always on the move and had to watch by back also the whole time, (or a bulldozer would have run me over). This is also why I used the zoom, as many areas were simply too dangerous to record at such a time (when the ship is beaching). However the thing that you really need to know is, that I am not a pro at this. Video making is just a silly hobby to me, (I really don't do this for profit, nor for fame, or for anything else) - So don't expect too much. Even the animations you see in this video are actually made from AutoCAD 3D (which is actually a engineering and designing software that I use in my real profession), not some state of the art dedicated video animator... I just happened to be invited at a ship's beaching, so I though that it would be cool to upload it on my YouTube channel too (after a little editing). :])
