lmao, at 1:25 fan on the field trying to congradulate leyritz gets tackled
by security. yankee fans loved to run on the field. watch the chris
chambliss 1977 home run.
I was at that game, in the left field bleachers. Don Mattingly homered in
that game, that was such a thrill for all of us kids that grew up watching
Donnie Baseball, to see him go yard in the playoffs was a dream come true.
But there was more in store in this game, a walk off home run. It was my
greatest moment as a fan. There were quite a few of my fellow fans that
stayed behind to just enjoy what we witnessed, even though security was
ready to get us to leave. I would have slept over that night in the
bleachers if I had a sleeping bag and they let me do it. It was a feeling
you wanted to last as long as possible.
+John Devane John--you said it PERFECTLY!! I was also at this game and to this day it's the greatest sporting event I've ever witnessed live!! The Stadium was SO phenomenally electric--I swear when Mattingly went deep the place SHOOK!! I'm with you in that I would have spent the night there if I could've just basking in the glow of that magical atmosphere!! I'll never forget that game and that experience, it was literally a once in a lifetime happening!!
And also.....I have NEVER heard the old stadium louder than when Mattingly hit that laser beam for a HR....That was the sickest thing I'd ever heard!!!
I was there too..in the right field upper deck in the first row with my best friend....I've been to probably over 300 Yankees game in my life....this was the 2nd best moment I've ever seen...number one was Sept 25th this year...went back home from Albuquerque NM to see Jeter's game....
+Harry Engel Fine announcer and great for Washington. Not sure he had the same appeal at the national level (let's face it he was a Mariners homer and there is nothing wrong with that!). I think Thorne actually does and is really underrated and I don't know why he doesn't more national games anymore. Brian Anderson from Milwaukee is also another up and coming announcer who may eventually get more games. He started broadcasting for TBS.
+Rob Buchwald after a 14 year plaYOFF drought any stadium would be electric after a hr like that
