This is true for me. But my myth goes beyond sex. I have made myself very
unhappy due assuming my life wasn't interesting or accomplished enough. I
was constantly comparing myself with others, what they were doing, combined
with what I thought others were doing , with some reference to the media
portrayal of the teens and 20something's. I was so worried about wasting my
youth by not doing enough exciting things.
I absolutely share your sentiments. Facebook is the worst for perpetuating this. I moved away from my college city and left all my friends to focus on my goals. When I returned, they were right where I left them, doing drugs, worried about "boys", being codependent... They are great people, but our goals don't match up anymore. I used to think that I was inadequate because I wasn't doing the things they were doing. I'm much happier now that I don't compare myself to others anymore.
+Mark HeathYou could say the same about all facets of modern society ~ short cuts are the modern way. Short-term gratification has replaced common sense and reason.
hmm yeah, Not sure, just wanting sex is where it all goes wrong for most people! what happened to caring, nurturing, build something relationships? casual sex aint the answer.
+Mark Heath The problem is not just that men only want sex. Why do so many millions of women dress in a way that simply advertises sex? It's not simply because men expect them to. These same women say that it feels good to look and feel sexy. So who's got sex on the brain??? Everyone it seems.
Another good christian sex myth is that the number of people you have sex
with is more important than how many times you have sex. Christians have
their condoned jesus partners - but may have sex with these jesus partners
every single day. If someone is having sex every single day, and no
different than a non religiuos person having sex with a different person
each day, that is someone having a lot of sex. Partner ok'd by the church
or not.
There was a practical reason for making that rule. Having sex with a different person each day makes it FAR more likely that you catch an STD. In fact, even today with condoms, we still need to be careful about how many people we sleep with.
It's ironic how feminists are always complaining about "objectification"
but when they are given a platform, the first thing they want to do is
navel gaze endlessly about their vaginas, their sex lives -- or lack
thereof-- and trying to police other women's sex lives.
Right... the media telling us that everyone is having moderate amounts of great (vanilla, hetero) sex is cool, but exposing this myth = trying to police people's sex lives.
Unattractive women are drawn to feminism because it allows them an avenue
to pretend they are just as attractive as other women who receive lots of
male attention. They didn't get the guy they wanted, now they invert their
desires and try to convince themselves that it's all bad in the first
place.
+Devout Pessimist WTF does that even mean? and "special privileges" like the right to walk down the street without having to suffer humiliation (cat calling and street harassment)?
+SuperAccountedYou send me an article from Elle magazine that lists books by some of the most idiotic women (Laurie Penny, Jessica Valenti, Caitlin Moran, Anna Holmes...) to walk the planet. Are you trolling me?
+SuperAccounted First of all you need to pick up a history book. History is a lot more diverse and complex than just "womans was oppressed for thousands of years."Secondly, outside of hard labor jobs which women rarely (or never) work in, what limits does a woman face in western society? Women are lawyers, CEO's, professors, political figures, celebrities, athletes, engineers, scientists and so on. Where is all this oppression against women taking place?
+SuperAccounted A "progressive thinker" (whatever that means) would not limit their thinking to single dogmatic ideology like feminism. They would be open minded enough to stay away from collectivist thinking (which feminism encourages) and fight for individual rights instead of demanding special privileges for a specific group.
