+QG QR This is not correct. Eau sounds like the French letter O, IPA: /o/, which doesn't sound like the U in bull, IPA: /o͝o/. On the other hand the IPA for the 'a' in 'all' is /ô/ which is similar to /o/ and is as close as you can get between the two languages. In other words. Eau sounds like the French O which is similar to the A in ALL, while the U in bull sounds like the French OU, and is very similar to the English OO. Hope this helps.

+Bobby G. It's quite a tricky question which I don't really have the answer to. Sometime when putting a word + definition into google (e.g: wagon definition) it will give you the origin of the word. But this is not always useful. Generally speaking, when a word ends in ER, and is used in English, whether it actually comes from English or not (poker actually doesn't much to my surprise!), ER is pronounced ère. Having said that it can also be pronounced EUR as is the case in hamburger.
+Bobby G. No. Hiver is an exception to the rule, ER is hiver is pronounced like ère. Think of the word mère. /ivɛʀ/Most words borrowed from English and ending in ER, such as poker or joker are also exceptions to the rule.
+Phạm Thương Hi. Making the distinction between the aspirated and mute H here wasn't relevant because regardless of which category the H in a particular word falls into, H is always mute (except after C as seen in the video). However, I do have a lesson on aspirated vs mute H if you're interested. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/febFlRLzfuITake care,Cindy.
