Hey as long as it works,then it's a good mask. I was talking to another viewer and he has a similar mask and said to try the banana oil test. Get a jar of the stuff,put on your mask and open the jar near the mask. If you can smell bananas then you gotta leak somewhere. Take off the mask,check the seals,filters and maybe tighten up the restraints in the back. It sounds like a good test.

I'm hearing Apple really needs to work on their people skills! But that's how it goes with successful companies with a product, but should it be flawed, they don't own up to it or if you're having problems, your the idiot! Anyway, that's why I won't buy one, just because they act so smug! But there are other companies that show they want your business by good customer relations. We've resigned ourselves from every buying anything Apple and you can let them know next time you talk to them. G-luck

Thank god someone has documented this as it's been driving me crazy and all Apple can suggest is replacing my phone (with another that I'm sure will have the same fault). Both our iPhone 5's have this and I'm even starting to notice it on calls to people with iPhones (audio in the opposite direction) and it's irritating as hell, especially if the connection is supposed to be HD Voice. Best way to describe it is as a VOX or "noise gate" effect. Can anyone confirm if a replacement phone will fix?

For anyone that's interested (or maybe can help testing), it appears this issue may be resolved with IOS 6.1b2 which updates the baseband to version 3.04.06 (was 1.01.00), I now have this on my phone (with no help at all from Apple who have been utterly useless) and it appears to have almost completely resolved the issue (I say almost as I can't fully test - I still get the effect calling other people with iPhone 5's but that would appear to be an issue with the remote phone of course).

Bought my iPhone 5 completely unaware of this and the first call I made I could hear the audio being chopped out... I'm an audio engineer and I'm pretty sure this is the case of an overly active noise gate/expander algorithm - apparently what Apple calls "noise cancelling" feature. I typically use headset with my phone and my brand new iPhone is useless in this scenario! Do you know if beta version of iOS resolves this and if it does, how can one get that beta version?

I had my phone replaced twice, I'm now on my third iPhone 5: they all have this call quality issue. You can read more about this on the FAQ page of my iphone5callquality-website (the URL is in the description of the video). On Monday the 26th of November I have an appointment with an engineer from Apple. They will test my phone. I will post an update on my website Monday after the appointment. So at least wait until then before you replace your iPhone.

@jckcip: Did you experience the exact same 'dropping in and out' issue as can be heared in my video? Did iOS 6.1b2 really solve it? Perhaps you can test it by calling your iPhone 5 from a land line phone? And comparing this with another phone (iPhone 4 of 4S)? I would appreciate your help with this!
