It's a devious racket, workers from the Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, etc, seek construction jobs, they're passports are then confiscated keeping the workers stranded and vulnerable; similar to foreign maids in Saudi Arabia. The people live in substandard units, where there exploited for maximum profits; and dependent on the already corrupt for a way home.

Very sad. I am an immigrant in Europe and it's been horrendous for 19 years, especially teaching and training. The employers think you'll just give up and go away. It took me three long years and a lot of money to get paid by the Republic of France for three university lectureships. That is why you get so many reported incidence of rape, dealing drugs and other annoying shit. There were many reports showing abuse to migrant workers in Dubai so this comes as no surprise, I feel sorry for these poor workers who are hoping to help their poverty stricken families. I was born and raised in Qatar and it is absolutely true. They treat people like shit so my family left for the U.S who are very friendly and nice in general. I am glad that we left that hell hole it's honestly so depressing. The Qataris are so spoiled they expect everything on a golden plate. Now I happily live in the states for about 15 years.

Slavery is more promient and more severe in Asia. 14 million slaves in India. 2.9 million slaves in China. 2.1 million slaves in Pakistan. Slavery is still rampent in south-east asian nations as well. Qatar and the gulf states are not the only ones.
