There’s a big drawback: data and calls can’t happen on the phone
simultaneously. You know those Apple commercials where the narrator takes a
call, looks up an address and checks an email all while still talking to
the other person? That’s not possible with the CDMA chip in the Verizon
iPhone, which separates voice from data on the network, and therefore can
only run one at a time. That’s kind of a big selling point for the iPhone,
and for smartphones in general, and Verizon can’t do it yet.
@IMPMAC you can change the rfid decoder chip in the phone and you can make
it work with version you don't need to go out and buy another one to make
it work. of course this is not something that the cell phone providers will
do for you. you will need to do it yourself. but its simple. finding the
chip is simple too. but converting it dose require jail breaking. that is
the only draw back. as t ime goes on i think one phone will support both
out of the box. just give it time.
For any of you that DON'T currently own an iPhone, you should probably know
that tethering (wireless hotspot) has been available to ATT customers since
before. You do however have to pay for the service. That being said,
Verizon WILL also be charging you for tethering. I can't believe there
making it seem like it's a new feature. If you don't believe me, fine
someone with at least a 3GS, go to Settings-General-Network-Internet
tethering
@salvatexmex He probably was just used to the iphone and didnt figure out
how to use the droid. Droid has Adobe flash for the internet browser. You
can watch free tv shows through Hulu and free live sports streams on the
phone at any time anywhere. Have fun paying over $30 a month to get
services like that on the iphone if they even exist. I know many who went
from iphone 3gs to incredibles and captivates and never looked back.
See to me this seems unfair, that the antenna issue has been properly
addressed for Verizon only. Every iPhone 4 user now is affected by this and
all Apple decides to do is tell us to get a case. Really? Or now switch
carriers. Well hm, some people don't have that option Apple, we aren't all
rich billionaires like you. If I could, I would switch to Verizon in a
heartbeat, but I simply can't.
ppl stop arguing provin fact look it up the verizon iphone which is on 3g
is still faster than the at&t one, but if u have at&t and u and ur parents
or whatever like it then stick with it but if ur on verizon like me then
get it when it comes out i have it early because my dad works for apple and
i personaly love it and BY THE WAY AT&T PPL THE VERIZON IPHONE IS AND WILL
BE BETER THAN URS
so congrats to all that are making the switch to preordering the iphone 4
on verizon. but not all features will be available on your network. i am on
at&t and own an iphone 4. its great when you're on a call and ur asked to
look up info on safari, text people, look up an address or phone number all
while you talk. i wonder how verizon iphone commercials will be like.
ok im on a family plan with my uncle and grandma on a verizon plan. they
both have available upgrades and i dont have mine yet. i know i can use
there upgrade to get the new iphone coming out but they wont let me use
theres. so can i just buy the iphone for 200 with 2 year contract and put
my verizon sim card in it and work it just like that?
Eh it's not worth it to me. I use voice+data way too much, where I live I
have excellent 3G everywhere and if I am somewhere with only Edge, I just
use the Mark the Spot app from AT&T and they have been good at upgrading
that area to 3G within 90 days or so and AT&T's 4G is going to be
dual-layered while Verizon's is only single layered.
A fact is that you can't use data and talk at the same time. That's one of
the iphone's biggest selling points. Both verizon and AT&T has it's good
and drawbacks. At the end of the day it's what you want in a phone and in
service. I'm very happy with AT&T and I live the features it has on my
network. Once again Congrats verizon.
@drewcwhite what are u talking about? verizon has a collection of droids,
at&t does not. i personally am an at&t user (not for long). i like at&t but
they dont have good service where i live. also even though they do not have
a collection of droids, they do have a great collection of windows 7 phones.
I think that verizon getting the iPhone is a good thing, because AT&T and
verizon can kind of use eachother to come up with more ideas to make the
iPhone better with each update. Like if verizon comes up with something
cool that at&t didn't think of, then at&t can use that idea also.
PLz reply this: Ok so i have 5 people in my family. We all have crappy flip
phones. We have a family plan. If we buy smart phone, say we have to pay
internet and email for it for 10 bucks. Would it be 50 bucks more a month?
Or will it be 10 bucks because we have a family plan?
@andreyofdoom B.S. my friend lost his iPhone 3GS, and instead of buying the
iPhone 4 like i told him too, he went ahead and bought a droid. Before i
knew it, he had returned it, cancelled his Sprint contract, and came back
to AT&T to get the iPhone 4. iPhone FTW.
