hi foxy thanks for the sub by the way much appreciated...right if your serious at getting into the hobby what is your budget for a detector in my experience the garrett 250 was an ok detector to start off with but if you think your going to get seriously into it then i would probably start with a mid range machine rather than a bottom end cheaper one yes they will find stuff but they will not find you a great deal of small stuff which is the smaller hammered coins dont get me wrong you will get the bigger hammereds like groats and shillings but you will find that your digging a lot of bigger coins like pennies halfpennies etc etc...my advice would be money permitting of course a second hand xp deus they are a fantastic machine john :)
