+Brian Tracy I read you loud and clear about textures and finishes, but I think it makes much less of an affect than most have sensationalized. Add to that, a million people before me have been doing this to hot rods since they came back from WW II and hit the salt flats. Polished finishes never kept them from breaking records, although I'd hate to be the guy that had to polish it. :) It's part of hot rod culture, and people either embrace it or they don't. Most who don't embrace it have experienced what it's like to keep it shiny. But about the finishes... I get it. I might be losing a hundredth of a degree of cooling capacity off the polished finish on a little corner of the end tank that's in the air stream... but on that hot summer day when I'm sitting at the stop light, the road baking and reflecting the sun into my end tanks isn't giving me that hundredth of a degree back. All my polished intake parts are in a hot engine bay. The exact same theory says they will absorb the engine bay heat and transfer it to the intake charge. In my opinion, someone regulating their intake temperatures based on finishes of their intake parts should have maybe used more efficient intercooler core to begin with. I use a short route kit that's less than half the internal volume to pressurize than the average pipe kit, a sheetmetal intake manifold, ported head, bigger cams and dual valve springs. I'm using the boost AS I make it. It's not hanging out in the pipes and end tanks.Polished finishes are a pain in the ass to maintain, but at the track when you encounter the stripped, weight reduction'ed, drag-slicked, speed-holed, 2WD, utilitarian no power option cars on street nights... and I'm chilling with the AC, windows up, loaded GSX that's just as fast as they are... let's just say it's part of the psychological game I like to play because nobody's expecting a low-12 from it. If the point of this car was performance-only, the weight of my luxury options outweigh any gains I could ever achieve by fine-tuning surface finishes. This car is about comfort, fun, style and speed. The finishes I have helped it get there. 3 of the trophies are DSMCA's "King Of Bling", one from every year where I participated. The day it brought home "best of show" in a field of 300 DSMs was one of the best days of my life. I guess that's why I do it? I have a reputation to maintain?Sorry, I average 165 wpm. I've had a lot of practice.
+Jafromobile EVERY surface transfers heat... I've never understood the whole paint/polish/"obsess over looks" thing... You do great work... I'm looking to build a rail buggy with a FWD 4cyl/auto powertrain at the rear... I'll probably just pick whatever super low mileage candidate car shows up at the insurance auctions with rear end only damage...
+Jafromobile Isn't the purpose of an intercooler to take heat out of the air charge? Why polish the intercooler and reduce it's efficiency (even if it is just a tiny bit)?
+Dave Smith I really want to say no, but honestly I haven't tried. Where I ran into difficulty with machine tools is finding sandpaper made for the tools I was using in fine enough grits. Polishing with something aggressive tends to leave tracks, and if it's possible, it may take automation to ensure a consistent and even result. Either that, or the steady hands of a neurosurgeon. I'm not sure that Ben Carson could do it?
Why go to all of that effort and leave those nasty looking welds? IMHO it
would have been far better to carefully grind down the welds to blend them
in and create a smooth rounded transition between each surface plane
without weakening the welds and result in a much more professional looking
part.
Peace!
No thanks. I would rather apply my cognitive functions to things that are productive, a benefit to others, and that are worthwhile pursuits. Of course halloween is near and for many a nightmare would be fitting for the season.
+Jeffrey Vastine Jeffrey, I totally understand where you're coming from. I understand your analogy and I understand the point you're making. Gaz Girl is judging another without provocation, whatsoever. Shallow minded. Can you imagine being married you someone with that mindset?
The comment was not directed at you or your comment. It was directed at the childish and pointless dialog that follows as anyone can clearly see by reading the entire thread. In my mind there is no difference between this and the senseless act which resulted in the loss of life, which are both acts fueled by hatred and anger. I am far from being alone in this view. Do you understand?
Robert, at times don't you find it difficult to understand some people? The lack of empathy and compassion some people illustrate simply boggles the mind. A prime example s the event where a toddler was shot and killed over a so-called "lane dispute" due to road rage.
Perhaps you failed to comprehend the very simple sentence in my polite reply to Jeffrey where I said "The real cause of the problem was identified, and it wasn't related to the strength of the part." So on behalf of all 3 master certified welders from Caterpillar and DuPont, Fuck you. Banned.
+Jeffrey Vastine Because after welding it together and replacing sections of the end tank that keep repeatedly blowing out on this car over and over again, you get tired of making it look perfect. The real cause of the problem was identified, and it wasn't related to the strength of the part. It was welded inside and out. Any end tank short of a cast tank would have blown out with what was wrong, but doubling the thickness of the materials and still having to repeatedly weld them back together is why.

You might have to buy some good scenery airports... I noticed with the
default scenery, it does not have most of the parking we need or some
parking spaces are not good for some aircrafts. I wish for FSDT to do all
all airports so I can buy. It's not your aircraft, it's the scenery you
might be using.

+An Anna many of the riders in this video a Islamic extremists. My children go to a catholic school and recently had been told they could not wear a crucifix because it offended some of the Islamic children. I then got told that they where also being taught teachings from the Quran and prays from the Islamic faith. Last week my daughter of 8 years old came home wearing a burqa, my son who is 10 has started to grow a beard and wear robes. So you see ..... this is why it is so dangerous to lane split!
+Bernhard de Bruyn Reality check... nobody is expecting to be passed like that. I myself ride 2 motorcycles as my daily drivers and don't use phones while driving... but the rest of the world sure does. I don't care how fast you go, but lane splitting is a sure way to get yourself killed. Go for it.
and just to be clear so my comment doesn't stoke your ego instead...its not because they are envious that you are on a machine that can go faster than them and blow the doors off them.its like your sneaking up behind them from behind and shoving them in the back and going "boo!", and startling the living shit out of them, and then cutting in line in front of them. fucking douchebags. one day you are going to startle some new teenage girl driver, or a woman on a cellphone with a minivan of distracting kids, and she's going to swerve to avoid what she thought was her drifting into you when really you're lane splitting like a mofo, the cars going to flip over and role at 50 mph, and that's going to be all she wrote. you just killed some kids and maybe took a high side fall yourself, and your ragdoll body got run over by a semi that didn't even have a second to swerve.
The only people that moan about safety and riding too fast are those that
don't own a sportsbike because when you get on one you can't help but rag
its arse because the rush is immense. Better than any drug and knowing you
might die makes it even more of a buzz (I am serious).
your right, but imagine your casually riding in one lane on your buddy is riding in the lane next to you, and out of the fucking blue some minivan lane splits between you going 2x your speed and nearly clips you both... and you're like wtf motherfucker!! now imagine a tractor trailer semi does the same thing.don't lane split. nobody is watching for lahesplitting because why the fuck should you. lane splitters are hardcore fucking douchebags. that's all they are doing in this video...
