Crabapple jelly is fun and easy to make! It takes a little longer than jam as you have to strain it first, but it's definitely worth the extra effort. Buy equipment you ...
+Eddie Schirmer Hi Eddie! I've never tried using a juicer, but if your juicer can handle whole crabapples (as you want the pectin in the skin and core), then it should work great. You wouldn't need to boil them first, you'd just juice the crabapples normally and then continue on to boil the juice with the sugar, starting at the 5th step :)
Great video. Never made jelly before, but I discovered a HUGE amount of
fruit on a tree at my work place and thought it would be a great time to
try it out. I'll let you know how it comes out.
+kidgloves2 Yes they did! My in-laws have 2 large crabapple trees - one has white flesh and the other dark pink/red flesh. They taste a little different, but both very good.

I usually peel about two dozen apples for the peelings to make the juice. The key is to measure the juice after it is boiled out before you add the sugar.

I always leave the jars and lids in the water until im ready to use so the
rubber is hot when I place on hot jar to ensure a proper seal. Also you can
get a set of canning utensils from ball for like $6.00 at walmart. It will
dafe you a lot of time.. Comes with a funnel , jar lifters , magnetic lid
picker upper , and air bubble remover.
Thanks for the info. I haven't tried any of the reusable lids yet. This is
the only time I tried reusing the standard kind of lid. It's too much work
to can everything from our garden then wonder if it sealed properly. It's
worth it to use new lids. This year I'm going to try some of the reusable
ones though!
It's foam from boiling it. The jelly looks better when you skim it off. If
I'm not giving any of it away then I have skipped the skimming part if it's
not too bad. You can also put a 1/2 teaspoon of butter or margarine in when
you add the pectin to help reduce the foaming. Thanks for watching!
They sealed but I wouldn't make a habit of reusing the lids especially if
you're canning something like meat or vegetables. I've also wondered since
then if the seal will last as long as it would compared to a new lid. So
personally, I use new lids each time now just so I won't have to worry.
bought a gallon of apple juice from the store wanted to make some apple
jelly. your video first one to pop up looks good. so here goes ,subbed you
also, looks like some great videos for me to check out
Sure-jell makes a low sugar product but I haven't tried it yet. The one I
was using requires that much sugar for it to set. Next time I make it, I'm
going to try the low sugar one since this is a lot!
@JennisKitchen They did. All of them sealed just fine! I think I'll stick
to new lids on other canned goods that would perish faster if they didn't
seal but for the jelly it worked out ok.
The lids confuse me- Do the lid and ring fuse together when the receipient
of the jelly unscrews the lid, or will it come apart in 2 parts each time
they open the jar?
Thanks for the tips! Before I started canning all of our garden food this
summer, I purchased the canning utensils and it definitely made things
easier.

Mind your fingers with that knife, you don't want any spare fingers in the
jelly! That strainer looks fantastic. Setting jelly and jam is difficult.
Enjoy it on your toast, make sure Daddy gets some too.
