Official Android 4.0.4 ICS FF18 Update on the Samsung Epic 4G Touch [REVIEW]
Here is a FULL review video of the official android 4.0.4 ice cream sandwich update on the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch! This is known as FF18.
Got tired of waiting for Sprint used your update. THANK YOU! all works
great. my question and comment. I had screen capture before on GB by
holding volume + power just as you describe now (not home + power or
volume). But now I can't get it to work at all. ?? Any idea how to turn
shutter sound off on cam. Even when ringer is muted it still sounds.
ANNOYING. The fast scroll jump issue, actually if you use the slide bar at
side it works great to scroll, and then use flick to go top or bottom.
I've tried every conceivable method to correct the battery life issues with
this update and i have not been successful. The battery percentage is
essentially a timer in minutes now. With consistent use, i can get about
4-5 hours. Taking it really easy and disabling every feature on the phone
takes it to about 8 hours. GB overnight, 100% to 96% by morning, ICS, 100%
to %70... unless i'm sleep texting or something, it's just pathetic. Back
on GB, all radios on, live background, 16 hours+.
hello i like some of the update but having a few problems hope i can get
some answers first i have set all my ringtones for certain apps but then
everything resets to default its the same with the screen timeout ill set
it to 2 min but then after awhile it will go back to 15 sec. and final when
i am on a phone call and i take it away from my ear it stays black untill
the other end hands up or i press the lock button
i manualy updated step by step from your last video and it worked i finaly
got ics works great was kinda laggy but then i rebooted the system and the
laging stoped. also i think every phone got it differently couse my phone
doesnt have that space bug on my swipe away option. also y doese my battery
die so fast its like every 5 minutes the battery goes down one percent i
counted,please help!.
I enjoy the new update. However I did not manually update. I did the update
thru sprint. Everything seems to work ok, except when I am on a phone call,
My sms ringtone plays very loudly. I have searched and searched and have no
idea how to fix this. It is very annoying. I shouldnt have to turn my
volume down for my ringtone to get this not to play when using the phone.
Please any advice..!!!
Hey qbking, I'm not feeling this update! Could you please tell me how to
return my rooted E4GT to stock specs? It was running Gingerbread 2.3.6 when
I rooted it (following your video, thank you very much) and later, I
updated to ICS 4.0.4, which I am not satisfied with! Now I wanna go back to
straight stock, no root, no ICS 4.0.4! Please help! It would be greatly
appreciated!
Great video, I'm curios though, I REALLY like the ICS native interface over
the samsung, but have found when I use it I don't get any numeric
indicators on the email or text message icons indicating new messages. I do
get them under the samsung interface. Is that not something inherent to the
OS? Is there a way to add that functionality to the ICS interface?
With FL24 coming out, another ICS update, I really dont know if it will
ever see JB... It should, the phone is far from outdated. There were 2
leaked builds for the device, both were buggy, and then they release
ANOTHER ICS update... At this point, its really hard to tell. I hope they
do, but simply do not know anymore. -QbHelper
Thanks for the video, great job as always! I just gotta give my 2 cents
worth I don't have a battery issue just it seems that my wimax speeds got
WAY slower I was getting 6-10 down now I'm lucky to get over 1 down. I
flashed back to el29 and speeds were back to normal. Went back to ics and
again super slow wimax uggg :-(
Done that, and also called Sprint and did the trouble shooting with them.
What do you suggest? I had custom Roms installed in the past and never had
this happened before, but I liked this update so I went back to stock and
did the manual update. I can't think of what could've went wrong. Any help
would be appreciated.
hey so i got the update but for some reason all the apps been crashing and
freezing and my email isnt working. do u know anyway i can fix that? i put
my email n password and it loads and thats it. i dont see anything
else...not liking the update much ..
You are only person I am subscribed to. You have great information, thanks.
I updated my phone, along with my wife's and daughters. Update to ICS went
great however all of our phones battery life went downhill more than 50%.
Please help
I placed a contact on my blacklist on Gingerbread. I got the ICS upgrade
the next day. Now, I cannot figure out how to remove contact from blacklist
on ICS, so I can receive the contact's calls again. Is there a fix for this?
Google Chrome does work just not all too well. I don't have force close
problems so much as freezing during mundane browsing. It is usable but I
would wait until after beta for anyone who gets frustrated easily.
How to Manually Update to Official FF18 ICS on the Samsung Epic 4G Touch
This video will show you how you can manually update your Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4g Touch to FF18 Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.4. Let me know how it ...
Yo qbking7 2da 7 i got two questions, by the way thanks bro!.. How can i
get the pushed sprint ics update notafaction alert to go away? Also im
running blazer rom 4.1 on the el29 kernal witch i love however if i flashed
back to stock and did go ahead and stock update to ics will i be able to
reflash the same blazer rom 4.1 (if i wanted to without reversingback to
el29) or would i want a differnt custom rom anyhow? i have to admit the
hotspot is important (real hotspot w/sprint hotspot) thx!
Much luv from the Bay Area legandary qbking77 Can I get sprint update push
to stop asking me to update? Im on el29 running blazer rom 4.1 and love it!
Stock hotspot huge for me so my question is what if any roms will work when
and if i decide to go back to stock and update to stock ICS? For example
will the same blazer 4.1 im using now on el29 be able to be flashed? Or
will it not be compatible? And if not what rom would rock w/sprint hotspot
working vs 3rd party hotspots (are not as good)?
Because I recieved the update before my wife, we both own s2's, she was
constantly playing with my phone and bugging me by asking, when will she
get the update. Thx for your video! I was able to download the file
directly to my ics running phone from your link, then transfered via wifi
direct. Moved file to her ext sd card after renaming to "update" and
followed your easy boot up instructions. Thanks again!
Qbking77 wut up What's the best from for stock 4.0.4 and root method? Also
used titanium backup on other phone and my wife'sd card is showing" blank
or files don't match" as of now titanium has really hurt us by losing or
data on external and keeps pushing us to format????? Any input or tips? The
back up was created running the black from and I changed from to.a.GB from
and now.SD card data issue arised???
I manually updated ff18 before then I went all the way back to EL29 (long
story) and didn't update back to FF18. I am now running cm10AOSP jellybean.
I don't want to flash everything all over again if I don't have to. Is
there a way to just get my baseband and build to ff18 version without
starting from scratch. is it really needed because being stock el29 doesn't
seem to make it lag
When i apply the update. I get the android guy with the exclamation point.
It starts to load the progress bar. Then stops and goes back to the android
guy. I let it sit for a pretty long time. Not sure what to do. It happened
before, I yanked the batt and it just booted back into el29. Any ideas?
Thanks a million. I did mine and it went thru without a hitch. Only thing
was I had to hold my buttons, let go, then do it again for my recovery mode
to come up. I didn't lose any apps, contacts, or text messages and I have a
new screen when in lock mode (it changed). Loving it! Thanks again
HELP!!!! I was automatically pushed to FH13 from FF18 and now my phone
restarts into safe mode and looses widgets several times a day! I never had
an issue on FF18, I was thinking about going to the ASOP JB rom but im wary
cus its still in alpha. Please Help your the man!
Well, this update has screwed up my message notifications, screwed up a
couple of games, has an annoying lag or delay, and won't let my battery
charge to a 100%. It's no longer rooted either. I assume it being rooted
before the update helped contribute to all the errors.
QBKING quick question i already did the update so i have 2 questions. 1.
does this void my warranty with Samsung? 2. have you heard of any issues
with the phone restarting on its own after the update. my phone restarts
every day on its own.
Hi.! I'm following your videos to root my S2 Epich Touch, but, I am on
FL24... So, do I need to do what's in this video tu upgrade to FF18, or can
I just follow your other video to root FF18, even if I am on FL24.? Thank
you (Y)
i have a stock s2 with el29. i downloaded the update renamed to update.zip.
i tried to update and i am stuck at the android icon with the the ! in a
triangle. nothing has changed in 30 minutes. what should i do now?
I have version 4.0.4, build number IMM76I.FE10 on my rooted Epic 4G Touch.
Will the upgrade you did work for me without returning to stock ROM first?
If so, where do I get the .zip file you used in you video?
I am running android 4.1.1 jb on my sprint epic 4g touch, and i really want
to downgrade back to ics 4.0.4 how would i do that just download this zip
and gapps or what i really need help qbking.
D4 ICS ROM for Galaxy S2 i9100! [Android 4.0.4]
Here's a quick overview of D4 ICS ROM for Galaxy S2 i9100. Download and Details Here: ...
i like it a lot. it's the rom with the longest battery life i ever tried so
far. but right now, no matter what i do, it won't let me go into my gallery
and camera anymore because it always says "no external storage availabe".
even though i checked the "Use Internal Storage" in the storage
configuration :( any fixes to this?
im tryin this rom since yesterday and i have to say is very stable. Much
better than foxhound or resurrection. just i wish there is a screen
rotation toggle in notification center
I have to say that D4 Rom is better. The Dev is just awesome and you get
awesome features :-) Beside, it's completely Stable and EVERYTHING works
for me :-)
yes you can you just need to download a keyboard from android market
Leaked FE16 ICS Build on the Samsung Epic 4G Touch - Android 4.0.4
Here is a review of the leaked FE16 Android 4.0.4 Ice cream sandwich on the Samsung Epic 4G Touch. Let me know what you think and be sure to subscribe!
Last winter, I rooted my Samsung Epic Touch 4G with a custom ROM. I forget
the name of it, but it was one that made almost every icon and the
background blue. Everything worked flawlessly but recently my phone's power
button stopped working. Took it to a repair shop, and they said that the
hardware functions properly and that it HAS to be a software issue. Have
you heard anything like this occuring to rooted phones, and how can it be
fixed? (couldnt find the message button on ur user page)
@qbking77 also try doing your scrolling with a lighter flick to the screen
to scroll. I've noticed that if you flick it lightly, it scrolls lightly...
It seems to respond "Greatly" to the actual sensitivity of the stroke you
use to scroll, trying to pinpointif you want to scroll fast or slow... Give
it a try and tell me what you think.. If you see what I see I want another
video made, giving me props for figuring it out! Lol!
The 4g turning off is not a bug... Sprints 4g service here in NYC is so
spotty that if you move an inch it will cut off... If you remain in the
coverage area it will sleep displaying "zzz" above it until you open an app
that requires it's usage... I like the scroll it's very responsive to the
touch, flick it hard and it scroll to the moon but less aggressive taps
will get it where it needs to be
@qbking77 If you check it out and pay attention to the other apps with the
scrolling issue, even the "YouTube" app does it as well. Go to comment on a
YouTube video, and flick it like you do in the "about phone" section. It
does the same speedy scroll.... I think it's standard.. Have a look see,
and see if you agree...
Yea the bug on the contacts has been fixed in this leacked EF16 the "cut
part" down in multitasking fixed just when you have just max 3 app open!
The benchmarks is the same on EF10 but is like 35% better than the EF07 so
yea EF16 its a lil better and no bugs
I will be trying this when i get home tonight... Havr anyone that has tried
this leak already run into any problems with opening the contacts app like
I'm having on fe10???? And is it an ics thing that the home screens don't
go into landscape mode???
What rom should I use on my D700 that will be fast and that the hotspot
that works?Right now I'm using SleeperROM_2.0.04_EL30 and keeps asking to
update to FC09 and this rom is OK but if you think that theres a better rom
I would like to know. thkz
The build looks good. Scrolling is not a problem to me. I too notice the
gap on the previous app screen. One bug that I note is that the integration
between the Social hub and the stock email program causes the email program
to stop.
Do we know if the wallpaper is still stuck on "fix" or if they changed it
back to scrolling? I've even tried different ROMS and launchers and they
all seem to have the wallpaper stuck or fixed in one position
If I'm coming from a ROM like AOKP will I be OK to Odin the root PRESERVE.
I mean I don't mind if i lose my data I just dont want to mess anything up.
Oh yeah keep up the amazing work. You the man QBKing!
I think it's a 4g WiMAX bug, it happens to me when I go into WiMAX areas
and I'm running complete stock GB rom. It also appears that signal sleeps
if you aren't using it. I think it's a 4G/WiMax thing.
To answer the ? About if anyone likes the scrolling when you flick the
screen. I don't like it the only benefit is its quicker to jump to top or
bottom of page. Its annoying I hope they change it
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but are you able to do a screen
cap on the phone once you're running this? I just tried w/the home/power
button option and wont do a screen shot :(
Android OS is constantly running about 30-35% in battery... normal? Is
there a way to lower that %?? I havent noticed any Wi-fi or 4G issues, i
have been running .FE16 for 3 days now.
AOKP ICS ROM for AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-i777! [Android 4.0.4]
Here's an ICS ROM for your AT&T Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 you HAVE TO CHECK OUT! Download and Details Here: ...
7. NFL Fantasy Football app doesn't work at all on this rom. This is a
dealbreaker people. lol. 8. When using voice to text feature, the app I am
talking/texting in often locks up. It's almost unusable...this happens
nearly 30% of the time. That's the main stuff I can think of right now. I
really like the custom apps on the lock screen, wireless hotspot
functionality and the "hit back to kill an app" feature. But other than
those...I'd probably pass on this rom.
3. Battery life is worse than stock ICS even though I am using the
brightness very low. 4. Torch on power button is the dumbest thing ever.
This seems cool, but about 4 or 5 seconds into using your flashlight...the
phone shuts down. 5. Apps randomly crash - like the youtube app crashed
when I had most of this list already written using my phone. 6. Custom
alarm clock lost ability to do stopwatch and timer so needed to get another
app to do these things.
Wifi settings are kind of tricky... u have to long press on the toggle in
the notifications panel... its weird they dont have a setting option...
they have one for mobile data... and for Google accounts, go into Accounts
and Sync in Settings... or if you open up Market/Google Play for the first
time, it will ask for account... :) hope it helps
It works for me... weird o.O wait, maybe its a glitch in the 9th April
update, I updated to the 11th April build release yesterday... forum.
xda-developers. com/showthread. php?t=1574718 Quoting from the changelog -
4-11-2012 ... Fixed Capacitive Lights (Shouldn't need any workaround now)
... I think this is the fix... I could be wrong...
after flashing a rom on my galaxy s2 i9100, i found that i was unable to
send texts on my phone. This problem is limited to texting, as i can make
and receive voice calls. I tried flashing back to a stock rom, but this
problem was still present. anyone know what im doing wrong or can do to fix
this issue? thanks in advance ;)
use Titanium Backup dude... and backup everything... but be careful,
restore only missing apps after you flash... DO NOT restore system
apps+data... And once u get the AOKP ROM installed, u can only flash the
new updates on top of them, no need of full wipe [although task650
recommends a full wipe, there are reasons]...
I've been using this Rom for about a month now and want to post my review.
1. The phone randomly reboots when swiping the unlock screen (using 8
custom apps on this screen). 2. Messaging app randomly doesn't allow my
typing to show up and can't send messages. I have to kill the texting app
and reload it to continue.
I tried out the ROM, it's freaking amazing!! And fast too!! There were a
few glitches though, like Absolute System Tools wouldn't install and any
way I can get the phone's audio to be routed through my desktop dock?? I
need it cuz I listen to music from my phone... Thanks and if u didnt get
this ROM yet, GET IT!!
how is this slower than GB or have less battery life? Lol Gingerbread is
slow as shit and the battery life is sub par. I've observed faster speed
and better battery life. Honestly if they designed ICS to be slower and
more consuming than GB, then they'd be stupid to begin with. They wouldn't,
and didn't do that.
Don't worry about it. I went back to Gingerbread because is a lot more
stable and the new ICS drains the battery like crazy and also because I
found Gingerbread to be much faster for now. I'm sure in the future update
that ICS will be way faster, but for now I'll stick to Gingerbread. Thanks
anyway :)
I've used this for a couple days now. Battery life is good. Although I'm
coming from MIUI haha.. Lasts the whole day easy, it's better than average
for a rom, concerning battery life, however I wouldn't expect it to last 2
full days. It is pure android experience...as is most other roms.
wait shouldnt play store be included in the gapps zip? did you flash the
gapps zip after flashing the update? you gotta flash the gapps everytime u
flash an update... thats what task650 told me... :)) hope that helps... and
its best not to install system apps through apks...
Is there anyway to use touchwiz with this? I can tell you love the Apex
look but im leaning towards the touchwiz. And yes please work on the
Official leaked ICS problem from your other vid! Thats what im using now.
The one where you lose your root. Thanks max
I had the wrong rom of ICS for the Galaxy S2, which I don't even remember
the exact one. The battery on Gingerbread 2.3.5 is really good on the S2. I
got the Galaxy S2 i9100 and now I'm running ICS XXLPQ, which is very smooth
and now I'm pleased with it.
You mentioned having poor cell connection in your area, 3G/4G... that would
explain some of the battery loss you experienced overnight. Anytime the
signal is weak the phone struggles trying to keep that connection alive and
will drain out the battery searching for signal through the night.
you can install manually. just check out qbking77 on youtube and hell show
you how to do it manually. i did it and it took a little over 8 minutes for
me. And if your battery life seems bad and processoer seems laggy do a
factory reset
do a factory reset for your phone and the battery life will return to
normal. i did it for mine about two days ago and its pretty much the same
as when i was on gingerbread. its always good to have a fresh start with ics
Fair and complete review, but mumbling and quick speech make it a bit
difficult to understand. If you watch those on follow up reviews, you've
got a winner. Thanks for the review, looking forward to more.
Just got my update this morning. The task killer is ics but i don't see
much difference. The keyboard is different as well as the 3g and 4g signal
notification. But can't drag apps to make folders.
HELP! I down loaded the ICS OS and I don't like it.. How can I go back to
Gingerbread????? Please help me. Phone is choppy now, Battery life sucks..
I misss my Ginger Bread... HELP!
i waited and waited patiently for this damn update like everyone else...
when i heard it came out 7/12 i still waited.. today is the 19th and still
nothing... the manual update did it like a breeze... epic fail sprint. you
took forever to roll it out and now taking forever to OTA it... i must say
i was expecting the GUI to look way different. looks the same
hi, is anyone having problems with the ics home screen wallpaper. i know
Samsung forced us to have a static wallpaper a while ago, but now, when
setting a new wallpaper, it only gives me the option for a screen ratio
meant for a scrollable wallpaper. so this means i essentially get a way too
zoomed in portion of what i wanted my wallpaper to be. any fix?
Nice video. This is off topic but I have the Galaxy S3 on Sprint and it has
updated twice now since I've had it, and I've had it since day 1. Do you
know what those updates where and can you do a video on it ? Thanks alot.
I'm having a problem finding the update zip. I saved it to the sd card but
its not showing when i look for it :-( I have the astro app so I dont know
why its not showing. Any suggestions would be most appreciated :-)
After waiting and waiting, i finally heard it was being released. An the
12th came and went. Days passed by. So i decided to manually update and it
was so simple. I love the ics.
does it reset phone to factory? like phone book and pics?
Leaked FH13 ICS Build on the Samsung Epic 4G Touch [REVIEW]
This is a review video of the leaked FH13 ICS Build on the Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Touch. This is based on Android 4.0.4 Ice cream sandwich. Let me know ...
qbking77; love the videos on the epic 4g touchs ( considering i have one
myself ) and i updated to FH13 but noticed HORRIBLE battery life; the
community of the epic 4g touch wants to know why? I heard that going back
to gingerbread would help manage the battery life much better than the new
FH13 update. I updated and noticed that the battery life is still horrible
its abit better but drains way to quick; also when i charge the battery it
goes from fuly charged to 40%; can you please explain? thx
Alright, so I had terrible battery drain since newer updates came out. I
mean literally I had to keep my phone always connected to the home/car
charger. If i would enable 4g data and GPS at the same time my battery life
would not only stay at the same level, keep dropping like I got internet
HotSpot On. Magic coincidence happened. i formatted my sd card. Not only
that my apps stopped force closure, but my battery life increased like 3-4
times if im not lying!!! Recommend to try. Save data 1st
Im in my 60s and have no clue how to do this but my phones been really
horrible since this upgrade . Calling sprint is useless you either get
people who don't have a clue or they just quote the company line and tell
you there is nothing wrong with the over the air upgrade. They even had me
do 4 seperate factory resets. I'm in new jersey it would be really cool if
you could recomend somebody to help me download this on to my phone .
Hoping you can help, thanks in advance
I would not switch to this release yet...problem. My phone now will not
wake and the battery has to be pulled to restart it. Everything works great
until you haven't used it for approx 10 minutes or so, then screen stays
black and no response from any touch input on the screen or buttons. Hoping
someone has a fix soon. I have done a factory reset with no change.
FH13 is garbage! FF18 supposedly had issues with battery? I didn't notice,
on FH13 I actually get worse battery life than I did before with same
usage. When I did the FH13 update OTA I did it without thinking, it
unrooted my phone and now all my apps consistently are crashing and
freezing. This is a piece of garbage, I'm going back down to FF18.
Ever since I installed FH13, my phone won't stay on. If I don't use it for
5 or so minutes, instead of it going into standby mode, it just completely
turns off. The only way to get it back on is to take the battery out and
put it back in. Even put FF02 back on it, and still shutting off. Didn't
have this problem before FH13. How can I fix this?
go to his how to install leaked fh13 video. . even with the ff18 rooted and
cwm/agat recovery. just do what that video says. it will reset your phone
on fh13 or you can preserve data. then its already rooted. use the same
thing that made custom recovery on ff18 on this one. this is how i did it
and its working perfectly fine now on fh13
Thanx for this video. 2 questions, 1. Sprint halted the original OTA,
tweaked the issues that occurred & re-pushed it in early Aug. Is the build
# of the new update different than FF18 as in this new one? 2. I was told
w/the ICS update the E4GT could no longer be used as a mass storage device,
has that also been fixed w/this new update?
I'm on Sprint and got the Epic 4G Touch for 99cents the signal sucks, i
manual update to my ICS over my phone by putting the update on the SD card
is that an option here? and should i sell this phone to upgrade to the
galaxy s 3 with a contract is there a big diffidence and is it worth being
on a contract.
Does anyone think/know if this will become an official update? Im on the
FF18 and the battery life is just horrible. Even after two cache wipes and
two factory resets, the battery still depletes at an alarming rate. Battery
life aside, my phone seems to run ok on FF18.
I just received this update yesterday and of course i updated my epic and
now i come to realize that my phone its not rooted anymore i am so fucking
mad i can't use my sixaxis app anymore... Do i have to root my phone
again.? Also can u do a tutorial about it?
Well if you installed a custom recovery you planned on installing a rom
correct? If not... you can actually watch my how to install clockworkmod
video and just flash the stock FF18 kernel with stock recovery and then the
OTA will work
I did the official over the air update and now my battery goes from 100% to
50% in about 20min then shuts off and after turns on drops down to 0% in
less than 5min. I went back to CM10 but the battery is still f'ed up.!
Please help.
Anyone getting SoD? I leave my phone alone for about 30 minutes, and when I
go and check back on it... it won't turn on. Have to pull the battery.
Tried wiping cache, still the same issue. Anyone know how to resolve this?
