I have it working already. It was a driver issue, probably. Connected it to
my laptop, which also had Samsung drivers installed. Uninstalled them.
Installed pda-net drivers and started rooting using a toolkit. It gave a
lot of errors and had to restart. But each time it came a little bit
further in the steps, with a new error furhter down the line. After
probably 5 re-tries it finally got rooted. Strange, sinde it was repeated
steps where I did exactly the same each time. Have CWM on now too.
First thing "too many links" error usually means a connection problem or a
driver issue. How did you install the drivers? Make sure your device is
plugged into a USB port at the back of your PC. Try a different USB port
then you have been, try a different cable if have one. The main thing you
need the right drivers installed. Plug in your N7 with USB debugging
checked, open device manager on your PC make sure under Android you see
Nexus 7 adb device. Let me know if you need more help. GL
My device just can't be rooted. It is unlocked, but every guide I have
tried to the letter fail. This one with the error "Failed (status read
failed (Too many links))" I have tried about 5 different guides/metods and
NONE of them works. I just wish it was as easy as on the SGS2 or even the
ancient Acer Liquid (which still requiered ADB-work, but it at lest
worked). This is horrendous!
Hey Brad Liner, excellent video. I just have one question. I want to backup
my nexus 7 date such has game progress, titanium does that but I must have
root. I want to root but I'm afraid of losing my data. Its kinda like a
loop and I do not know what to do . Please can anyone help. It would be
most appreciated, Thanks in advance...
Google posted the factory images right away. No need to wait for some
stupid toolkit. Download the factory images and run the .bat for a return
to factory state 4.3. For simplicity, then boot up the tablet and put the
latest su.zip on the internal storage. Reboot back into fastboot and flash
custom recovery. Boot into recovery and flash the su. You have rooted stock
before Google even pushed you the ota. Waiting around for somebody to
update his stupid paid toolkit is flat out stupid.
Correct! But some people would rather choose simple numbers to have an
automated script do everything for them automatically. I am one of those
people. Less steps that the user can make, where a mistake could be made by
typing something wrong. I'm manually unlocking, flashing twrp via fastboot
(fastboot flash recovery twrp.img) right now, and applying the latest
supersu in my custom recovery. Some people don't want to do all of that
manually.
Go to Menu, Settings, Apps, ALL (swipe over to the right) and find Google
Services Framework. Then click the Clear Data button. Then click the Force
Stop button. I reflashed BACK to 4.2.2 and then it said the same thing to
me. Try that method, it worked for me on the first try! After you clear the
data and force stop the Google Services Framework, go back to system
updates and it should say "1969" for the year. Then press check for updates.
Ok. On my lg optimus l9 i got an update. Android software 4.1 jelly bean. I
went to update it and it failed cause i lost wifi connection and it said
for me to restart. I clicked restart and it didnt do anything. I kept
clicking it but nothing happened. Also the button says retry download
I hear you. Just saying I think you should put the fastboot way in your
videos to educate your viewers on how to do it. Or at least not push a
toolkit / toolkit maker that pushes you to donate for such a thing. This
video for example comes off as basically a infomercial for it.
Hey Josh, I, currently on 4.2.2 rooted. I hate backing up and all because I
still don't know how exactly. So if I just press the update button, will it
f up my n7 like putting it on boot loop. I don't mind loosing root. But its
just the hassle. So will it f up n7?
@wwjoshdew Can you please explain little about bootloaders? I've never
locked my nexus 10 boot loader only 1 time since I unlocked it, can you
please tell me what will happen? When I tried it, I didn't lose root access
and I was on a custom ROM, I think
It's hard to believe you've been under a rock after watching your videos.
But I'm sure you already know Google had an even a few days ago showing off
the New Nexus 7 and Chromecast device.
I watch some videos (That are good videos!) but the person recording just
has NO enthusiasm at all, and sounds like the "Dry eyes" commercial guy.
Stuff like that is hard to watch.
Hey Josh. I love your reviews! Should I get the S4 or Black HTC One? I'm
thinking the HTC One but I really do like the S4 too. Please tell me as I
am going to get it soon. Thanks!
hey josh! thanks to you I waited and now I've ordered my nexus on best buy
:3 I got the 32gig can't wait to get my hands on it :3 how about you?
already ordered yours?
the improvements are on speed and performance. android 5.0 (key lime pie)

The MX player no longer works with this new update and now I need a new
video player that plays WMV, FLV and AVI files.
How to Root Nexus 7 Tablet Android Jelly Bean 4.1 (7 inch Tablet Made by ASUS)
We show you how to root the Google Nexus 7 Tablet using the Nexus Root Toolkit, its a little bit lengthy and does alot of automatic reboots but it gets there ...
I used camtasia to record my desktop, and my 60D to record my phone. Then I
imported both videos in adobe premier pro (I had three things recording
audio, two things recording video, chose the best audio that went with each
part, and removed the two other audio tracks) Camera audio, Zoom H2n, and
audio from my Meteor Mic in Camtasia. If I wasn't at the computer, I used
my portable recorders audio. Then I applied a crop to the phone (don't need
all the table in the shot), and moved it to the left
I could spend ALL DAY pulling up a hundred comments/messages/mentions where
people THANKED ME for editing the way I do. I CHOOSE to include mistakes
while editing, because I get comments like "DUDE, THANK YOU! I was getting
the SAME ERROR (or having the same problem) as you, and now I know how to
fix it, thanks to your video". It would take all day to screenshot every
comment, message, email, or twitter mention of the "Thank You's" I've
gotten for doing things the way I have for years. :)
Let me sum up rooting android devices. 1. Download the SDK and the the fast
boot and ADB that comes with it. 2. Open command prompt and CD to wherever
you have fast boot program. 3. Put your device in bootloader screen
probably by holding down button while booting 4. Type into command prompt
"fastboot oem unlock" 5. Select yes. 6. As the device is rebooting put it
into boot loader again. 7. Have your downloaded recovery image in the same
directory as your fastboot program Continued
The latest Toolkit 5.1.8 behaves a little differently. In the 'Root' menu,
I chose 3 (it has SU in the title) and then got the menu seen in this vid.
Then, TWRP was quite confusing, the Toolkit window says "press any key when
the device is in sideload mode".. in TWRP, go to Advanced and ADB Sideload,
then when it appears to hang on "Starting ADB sideload feature..." _that_
is when to "press any key" in the Toolkit screen, and it sends the sideload
zip to the tablet.
YES YOU CAN! You do NOT have to donate! If an update to the Nexus 7 comes
out, then no... You WON'T be able to root (UNLESS you've donated), as he
provides INCREMENTAL updates to those that have donated, and they get to
root the update FIRST, before anyone else. You don't have to donate to
root, as he will EVENTUALLY release a FULL download that includes the
update, which is much more time consuming than just pushing a small update
to those that have donated.
best sentence to get when doing this "congratulations you hacked it"
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
XD i have done it FINALLY THANK YOU SO MUCH
I wonder if this will help me fix this issue I have on my nexus 7. Mine is
rooted and unlocked and running PA3+ I had to encrypt it to get office mail
on it. Now, I want to decrypt it and the only way to do that is by doing a
factory reset. However, this is not working. Factory reset doesn't change
anything. Will this toolkit help me flash stock ROM on the N7?
He will eventually update the entire toolkit and it will support 4.2.2. But
what happens when Android 4.3 comes out? You'll be right back where you are
today! So just donate a few bucks whenever you can, and you'll be able to
root the latest updates before ANYONE else... Well, besides me and the
others who have donated! :)
you do know there is such a thing called a little button... I click it and
it blocks you from further commenting on my videos, and helps keep you from
further being an idiot? I'll help you right now... There, done! :) Now you
won't make yourself look like an even bigger idiot. I just did you a favor!!

Woo Hoo !! Thanks man. Your video gave me the confidence to try rooting my
N7 and I am pleased to say I have done so successfully. I wanted to root
the device more for the OTG and it is working brilliantly. I even ended up
buying Chainfire's USB StickMount to help in the process.
I don't know how I did it, but I managed it! Thank you for the video, its
backing up now. What do I do with that backup? You need to make a follow up
video on HOW to USE the backup to restore the tablet and in what
circumstances. Just bought the HTC ONE! Subscribed!
If your bootloader is locked, YES. But if it's unlocked, no. If you
download an app called Helium, you can backup your stuff to Dropbox, Drive,
or Box. (Don't choose internal, because that gets wiped when you unlock)
Then when you root, you can restore that stuff.
Sadly, you have to wipe. YOU CAN use Titanium Backup and use the ADB
Backup, where you backup your device without root, unlock (which wipes),
root, then restore your stuff. If you have problems or question, their
twitter is @TitaniumBackup
Great great video!. As a matter of fact: Quick question. What software did
you use to create the simultaneous computer screen and camera video
recording? I am in need of doing something similar for a project
That awakrd moment when you get to 13m, and you say not to do what you just
did. but you were following allong. If you screw up, edit all that out :P
Or maybe a warning NOT TO UNPLUG would have been nice...
Can I root the tablet without loosing all my data or if that's the only way
can I at least get a nandroid/titanium back up going before I begin the
process so I don't lose everything?
Is there any way to keep app data without unlocking the bootloader? Because
I had my nexus 7 for almost a year and accumulated about 9 GB of app data
and finally decided to root it.
He MIGHT have included that as a full download for free, I'm not sure! It
has been a little bit since this video. Just download the latest version
and see if it has 4.2.2 or not.
Just go to fastboot and type "fastboot oem unlock", then flash recovery via
fastboot, and then choose "install root" when you reboot to system (from
within recovery).

How to Unroot / Unbrick the Google Nexus 7 - Latest
This video will show you the latest method to unroot or unbrick your Nexus 7 Tablet. This will wipe everything, so make sure you back anything needed up!
I'm also having supposedly same problem. My Asus Nexus 7C 2012 got 'bricked' not because I tried to either flash any custom rom/stock or do anything stupid but because of some sets of reasons which resulted in bricked devices all around the world, and like many other users, it happened 'just' after the warranty period expired. :( (what I remember is that I used an app using GPS for the first time in the morning, then I forgot to exit the app and later in the evening, the device stopped booting for ever). I researched too much to an extent that now I'm bored. Before, I knew nothing about flashing, custom rom, stock, CWM, ADB, fastboot etc etc now I may be a bit of help to other rookies. but couldn't solve mine till now.So, if this was the case with you too, please help me out here if you got helped atleast by sharing the webpage urls giving step-by-step instructions. When I said bricked, I meant that the device doesn't get past the google loading screen. I can get to the bootloader page (where it shows the fastboot mode on line one) and when I select either recovery mode or start, it just freezes at the google screen. Also, I'm kind of sure that I never touched the USB debugging settings before the device got bricked. So if it was not factory enabled, probably it won't be now if that's any meaningful since its not booting!
Help! my nexus 7 2nd generation doesn't get past the google loading screen.
I can get to the bootloader page and select recovery mode but after that it
just freezes at the google screen. In need of desperate help!!

Somehow I completely wiped the entire OS. All that displays is the "Google"
Logo with a padlock at the bottom in the middle. It won't go into
bootloader, just stays with that.I'm fucked out of $200.......
