CHUCK KLOSTERMAN talks about "Eating the Dinosaur"
//www.bordersmedia.com/ is the place to find more interviews like this one.
hmmm...i only recently became a (huge) klosterman fan. i just finished
'killing yourself to live' and started 'eating the dinosaur' today. i love
his work. so, i thought i'd look up an interview with him(given the opening
of the latter book). I figured i'd find my mental image of klosterman to be
greatly at odds with his real self. apparently not. this is EXACTLY how i
imagined he'd be...and exactly what i wanted to find. he seems like a
genuinely interesting person. a joy to read and listen to.
Marcing1957 you obviously fail as a reader. As stated by bretteskin he does
indeed reference "Eating the Dinosaur" Klosterman ponders as to what
practical use time travel may have other than eating a dinosaur. If you
want to speak in a metaphorical sense he may be talking about dissecting
the human psyche bit by bit (how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a
time) however, I somewhat doubt this is the case and instead it is simply a
bit from the book much as the titles for some of the chapters.
After having read the book, I can't watch this interview without thinking
about Klosterman's contempt for/fascination with the interview. "Why is he
answering these questions?" I ask myself. "Is he thinking about how people
who have read his book will see this interview and wonder why he's
answering these questions?" It quickly turns into a meta- shitstorm. I
would hate to have to interview Chuck Klosterman; I would feel completely
debilitated: "So, this is pretty inane and strange, huh?"
When the interviewer is provided an an advance copy of the book, the
interviewer can ask questions about the book. This was not the case with
Chuck Klosterman and Eating the Dinosaur. This interview took place more
than 5 months before release. That said, it is always interesting to talk
to Chuck Klosterman, and Borders spoke with Chuck as often as possible. He
rarely disappointed.
So i just finished "Eating the Dinosaur," and it was highly enjoyable.
Klosterman gives just what you expect- pop cultural criticism with
attention to details and, of course, himself. He does NOT however, say what
the title "Eating the Dinosaur" means. Thoughts??
Chuck, I love the book, thank you for making my train and bus journeys not
be a pain in the ass. I don't agree with you about 40% of the time, but
your entertaining way of arguing your case makes that totally irrelevant!
@marcking1975 Well it comes from the essay discussing time travel, and how
he says the only legitimate reason for time travel would be to see what a
dinosaur tastes like. It's a joke.

I'm happy. (subscribe for more OFWG/tyler the creator shiiit) Lyrics: [Verse 1: Young Nigga] Ballin' Nigga we ballin' All of my niggas get airtime Niggas call ...
these are some of the funniest questions i've heard in a while although in
some cases he is essentially asking the same question but using a witty way
of phrasing it ; a great example of a ''GEEK EPIPHANY!'' CHEERS!
Chuck Klosterman's take on Billy Joel from his book, "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs". I cut it up a little bit, so it isn't in its entirety. For the full version, read the damn ...
Klosterman actually has some cogent thoughts here, some that are even
objectively defensible, yet he ultimately can't escape the need to drape
these thoughts in the more meaningless aspects of his own emotions, gladly
throwing his subject under the bus in the service of that cause. His
obviously respects Joel, which is what drives him to define that respect in
some manner that brings Joel down to, or below, his own level. Are there
any critics out there who aren't narcissistic wannabes?
well apparently the reason chuck thinks joel is not cool is because bill
makes him see his self and chuck dose not consider his self cool perhaps
so he says!! by looking at chuck i can understand why he dosent think hes
cool!! and because this is basically a opinion and everybody has one they
are like assholes i will not insult chuck and make fun of his last name!!
I completely, vehemently disagree with Klosterman. Coolness, whatever that
may be in the moment pales compared to musical brilliance. The Eagles do
not suck- they have created some fantastic music and lyrics that
seamlessly, artistically go along. What a sham it is to consider rock as
only attitude.
Klosterman's genius is that even though he will speak on subjects you don't
care about, or will ever change your mind about, he has a lot of things you
will at least consider into your thoughts.
