Phase 2 tutorial: Covers the process of dual-booting a computer system with Linux (Ubuntu Server) and Windows (Windows 7). Specifically deals with installing ...
Sorry, let me clarify what I meant - that specific version of Ubuntu from
Sourceforge comes with utilities bundled with the Live CD which we need
(specifically the GParted Utility). When you attempt to install Windows
alongside and existing Linux installation it will delete your Linux
partition(s) and format the entire drive for itself. We use GParted utility
with this Live CD to divide and make a separate partition for Windows NTFS
filesystem to dual boot Windows without erasing Linux first.
It's going to automatically create the virtual box on the same hard drive
that linuxmint is installed on. Plus you need a genuine copy of windows 7
to install it in the virtual box.
How to Install Windows or Linux on a Netbook In this video I will show you how to install Linux Zorin OS 7 on your netbook or notebook These laptops don't ...
In some ways yes. One of Zorin's nicer features is it has an in system
desktop switcher which makes the environment look a lot like Win 7, OS X,
or Ubu with Unity. Its larger Iso size is a bit of a turn off for me
personally. I've only tried it out once and thought it a bit bloated. Zorin
is designed to try to fit the needs of a newbi coming from Windows so if
you are one then it might suit you. I'd recommend trying Linux Mint Mate
edition rather than Zorin....
Hi Brian, I have a question that you most likely know how to answer. I have
this netbook that I was fixing and all went fine, but netbook always starts
with media partition instead of going straight to windows and I have hard
time to figure it out how to make it right. In bios or disk management
there is no option to make windows booting first preferable. Any ideas?
Hey, Brian. Forget the video I asked for, you can make it if you want but I
don't need it anymore, I have replaced Windows XP with Zorin OS. But, how
do you boot to Zorin automatically. It keeps on asking which should I
choose. Boot Zorin, Advanced Options for Zorin, MEMTEST (I think). I want
Zorin to automatically to boot!
Zorin looks cool, but I am not a fan of Linux distros that make you
pay/donate for business class or gaming set ups. It's why I hate Red Hat,
and SuSE distros because they got away from the FREE world (yes I know
there is Fedora and a free version of SuSE, but they are stripped down).
yeah, but 2 reason i don't wanna just create a partition and install it on
that. 1) once I select Install alongside Windows, it thinks it is Windows
8. 2) I heard that some people are saying 'once they installed Zorin, It
showed Windows but I would not work'! So I don't know
I want to do this, but the problem is that when I select install alongside
windows, it thinks it is Windows 8. But I use XP. That's why I want to see
a video on how to dual boot Windows XP (XP!!) and Zorin OS.
Hey Brian why don't you use Daemon tools in order to virtually clone
driveand then install any operating system. It worked for me. I think it's
easier. Like this please so that everyone can see this
Thank you, your YouTube video was helpful and very easy to follow. It is so
straight forward and easy that unless you're a total idiot this video makes
it very easy to follow.
How long did it take you to download Zorin, because I just got my copy today
and it took 5 hours, failed then I tried again with another mirror,it took 1
hour and worked!
heres one for you .... how the hell do I install Linux distros ona dell
studio 1909 with NVidia graphics ,it just doesn't wana do it,tryed every
Linux and every method
Possibly the most mentions of the word 'little' in a Youtube video that I
have seen Enjoyed it though, currently in the middle of building a linux
desktop machine
XD Mint is legit good. I'm currently running an Ubuntu base install with my
own selection of software rather than go strictly Ubuntu. It works quite
well. =]
OK I see if I can do a video on it. Safe way is to make another partition
and put Zorin on that.
How to Install Windows Wireless Drivers in Linux
Check this - //pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/tp/windows-7-drivers.htm If your model/company is not there to just go to the manfacturers website and ...
Look simply put, Linux driver is free. The Windows Driver is proprietary.
Linux is not going to load a proprietary drive unless they want to get
sued. In most cases the driver has nothing to do with wireless working well
or not it is the Distro u choose. There is a huge difference between
Slack-ware, Arch Linux and Ubuntu... Ubuntu takes alot longer to load
because u have OS that comes with a bunch of pre installed drivers that is
why boot time is slow. I imagine that effects the wifi card.
Ubuntu doesn't provide driver support. I mean they do in there own respect
by adding in the additional driver tool, but all driver support comes from
the Kernel itself, not the Operating system. That's why older Linux
distributions using Kernels 2.6 and lower have a hard time running on newer
hardware. Also, as for slow boot time, I have no idea what you're talking
about. My Ubuntu 11.10 gets to the login screen in about 5-10 seconds,
after password I'm in Unity in about two.
@blackoutworm Yes, but you have to remember when it comes down to
open-source vs. proprietary, proprietary will usually win. Simply because
Open-Source programs are made by people in their spare time, proprietary is
made by people as a full time job who get paid for it. Your system should
be working as good as possible right now. If you really care about maximum
usability and performance, switching back to Windows might be the way to go
for you.
@blackoutworm Because they can't. When making an open-source operating
system they have to use open-source drivers. It's a legal thing, and an
open-source thing, they can modify the open-source drivers wherein they
can't modify the proprietary ones. But I find my Internet and in most cases
the Windows drivers work better than the Linux drivers. Don't ask me why,
just how it is.
@shafnet Thank you! The mic quality was really bad in this, and I recorded
it at 3AM, so it wasn't the best. Hopefully I'll have better screencast's
soon. I think I'm going to wait until Ubuntu 12.04 comes out to make more,
because that's when everyone is going to be coming over to Linux in
opposition to Windows 8.
Hardly. I don't even use Ubuntu anymore, I have been waiting on the release
of Elementary Luna for ages now. I really believe it's going to one of the
best Linux distro's around. I would use Mint, but I still think Cinnamon
needs more work, it's a bit heavy in comparison to Cinnamon as well.
@Live4TheGame1 Yes everything works fine. But I want my system to be as
good as possible. And I also find the internet to be faster on windows in
virtualbox than in linux. Isn't that odd? I mean, windows recognize the
drivers via virtualbox, right?
If you're a distro hopper, here's an idea. Instead of just immediately
jumping to a distro, use your current distro's wireless ability and check
it out in a virtualbox. Or partition a newer section of your drive for it
using gParted.
I'm not sure why that would be, but try hard-wiring the laptop/desktop,
then remove the Windows wireless driver you installed, afterwards open
'Additional Drivers' and install the Wireless driver that appears there.
Depending on the age of the laptop, the kernel may no longer contain
drivers for your wireless card built into the laptop. Your best bet may be
to hardwire it into your modem or seek help on the Ubuntu Forums
Why do they preinstall linux drivers if the windows drivers work better?
That's just stupid. I thought the point of making an operating system was
to making as good as possible.
@blackoutworm Check the additional drivers section to find any proprietary
drivers your hardware might need. Other than that you should be working
a-okay. :D
Great opening line. You've got a good voice for screen casts
How To Install Windows XP to VirtualBox in Ubuntu 12.04 Linux
Hi all here I set up my Windows XP virtual machine which we will use over the coming weeks for virus testing, the install is very easy but you will need either a ...
i get this error help plz Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The
VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a
permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by
executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. If it is available in your
distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps
track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if
necessary.
Nice video!
I'm considering this as a solution for my problem...
...I'm on elementary OS Freya, and can't get a Canon Pixma MG2410 scanner
to work, only the printer part of the device is recognized and works well
but the scanner won't be found, I tried with the Drivers from the official
site and nothing.
Do you think Windows XP (on the virtualbox) will recognize peripherals such
as my canon scanner?
I don't know how this works. I got the Ubuntu loaded up right now. Its just
doing the .... thing right now. Will it take a while before I can install
XP? or did I do this hole operation wrong? Please someone, anyone please
tell me if I did this right.
Hi, I noticed that when you created your XP VM through virtual box you
didn't set anything for networking. I'm having issues connecting to the
network through my host. What was your default setting for your virtual box
networking?
In ubuntu 12.10, I managed to get xp to connect to the internet simply by
switching to 'Bridged Adapter' from 'NAT' in the network settings on
virtualbox.
