In a way I get what you're saying but to an extent I disagree. I believe that a great father treats the mother of his child with respect. Any man who has the mentality to think it's acceptable to disrespect the mother of their child is lacking as a father. That mentality passes on to children. Children see and sense when their mother is being mistreated. What standards does a man like that set for his daughter? What standards does she set for her daughter by allowing his disrespect?

The NYPD is a terrible example to use as they killed Sean Bell, amadou diallo and severely injured abner louima. They use violence as a way to control any kind of uprising.
