Jumping rope is very underutilized and overlooked for all types of athletic
training. It's proven to significantly improve foot-speed and mobility, and
can improve leg strength (somewhat) and make one an overall just faster
sprinter as well. The only downside? High high impact. From experience make
sure you have the right footwear before you do it with a lot of forefoot
cushioning, and find the ideal location preferably not concrete or even gym
floor. I use the bouncy gymnastic floor at my nearby gym.

I'm 21 and didn't realize my potential playing QB until recently. I know
I'm a little late to the party, but am I TOO late? I ask only because I get
told this by all my friends and family - that 21 is too old to play college
ball. Also, if I'm not too old, what would be my best course of action? I
live in Utah, and am in the process of transferring to a football school
(Weber St.) but I don't know if I'm doing this right. I want to do what I
love for a living, I am literally in love w/ football
ok but if i get sore how many days do i stop and i lift weights for 3 days
about 45 minutes is it still ok to do that? and what if my my schedule
permits me only once or 2 a week throwing is it still ok and can i throw
for consecutive days and even if its a little sore? also i think my motion
is like a shot putter like drew brees i still need more weight for kinetic
energy will my weight be able to throw a 60 yarder if its 139 lbs? or do i
need to gain more.thanks for the infos in advance :)
The biggest problem u r having is that u r not throwing enough! If u only
lifted weights once a week u would get sore every time, particularly if u
lifted for 2 to 3 hours! You need to throw at least 3 X a week if u are
going to spend that many hours throwing. Additionally, don't start off
throwing for that long each time. Start out with throwing for an hour and
then work up from there. You need to gradually strengthen the muscles in
your arm and shoulder until they get use to the routine.
I am going to guess that you are more of a punch thrower similar to Tony
Romo or Dan Marino? Typically, punch throwers can't throw long as well as
they are accurate and powerful on short to intermediate throws. Two things
that will increase your distance on your throws is to add a hitch step into
your drop as longer throws usually require the QB to take single or double
hitch steps after their fifth or seventh step in their drop ... (see next)
Thanks for the comment Dylan. We don't have any mini-camps or workouts
scheduled right now. If you can get down to San Diego, Jeff Garcia is doing
a QB camp this week. You can get details at jeffgarciafootball[dot]com. We
also have some training modules for sale on our site. If you haven't done
so already, go create a locker on our site. You should be able to unlock
one of the modules.
The only limit is the one you put on yourself. 21 is not too old. Some
college players go to school after spending some time doing other things. I
know a 24 year-old junior who spent some time playing MLB, then decided to
go to college and play football. The only limit is you can only play for 4
seasons unless redshirted, you can play 5.
I would recommend buying Coach Cunerty's video on throwing mechanics. Based
on your explanation, it's difficult to understand what you are trying to
explain relative to extending your arms? Everything starts with your
footwork, transfers to your hips and shoulders, and then lastly your elbow
to the fingertip that the ball leaves from.
Although thank you for the videos! I watched these just yesterday and its
given me a way to perfect my fundamentals. I've actually NEVER had someone
explain the fundamentals of a QB is such a masterful way, like it clicks
almost immediately. I hope you continue to do these videos, you truly are a
master of your trade.
Workout your arms, go lift weights and get your arms bigger. The stronger
your arm is, the deeper you can throw a ball. Look at his "three different
types of throwers" and study Tom Brady's throwing motion. Its hard to
explain but I hope this may help a bit. Love to hear of football being
played in the UK
i get sore arms from the shoulder balls and elbow joints,i throw once every
week for 2-3 hours straight what can i do to strengthen my arms and joints
and how many minutes should i rest in the 2-3 hrs of throwing
footballs.please help sick and tired of getting soar muscles.hope to hear
from you guys.
also i notice the faster i can extend my arms the longer i can throw it
with a perfect spiral im i on point here? i wana know if im on the right
track and also im trying to feel my torso generating force some times cant
feel it is that normal or is it im throwing still with my arms too much?
Thank you!! I love this program ya'll are doing, are there classes for guys
in my age group? If so, where are they located and how much? I've learned
so much so fast that makes very noticeable differences JUST from these
videos, I couldn't imagine in person! Please, keep these going!!!
in order to create better timing with the distance of the route by the
receiver. If you are having to get the ball farther down the field you
won't be doing that from a three step drop. Additionally, make sure to
increase your stride length a bit when you step into the throw. ...
coach i havent tested your routine out yet but i will i have pain inside my
elbow when i start throwing and it stops me from performing in practice if
u have any other tips about that injury or information to help me
understand what is going on i would appreciate it thankyou
A slightly longer stride into your throw will force your hips to rotate
more dramatically which will create more power in your shoulder rotation. I
would recommend purchasing QB video #5 on our website, my football
mentor.com, which covers throwing mechanics.
It can be a couple of different things. It's probably your bio-mechanics.
It may be best to have one of your parents use a smartphone or a camcorder
to record some video of you throwing the ball deep, upload it to YouTube
and send us a link to look at.
Coach I never played a game in my life but I love and have a passion for
football IM really athletic do you think I can get on a college team if I
never been on a high school team IM 17 and wish I knew a place to practice.
By practicing each fundamental over, and over, and over! Throwing a
football is a skill much like hitting a golf ball. The more you practice
the more it becomes part of your motor movements of the nervous system.
Im 15 years old I been playing QB for two years I have a strong arm very
accurate with short and medium passes. But when it comes deep passes I
can't get it deep enough. Do u have anyways that u can help me
if its 50/50 for torso and arm how should my arm feel is it relaxed or
should i feel a little strain for powering my arm. it hurts a Little when i
power it with too much force how can i go about it?
Hi Dylan, sorry, we don't have any clinics/camps in Utah. To learn more,
you can purchase the full length videos from our website as these youtube
vids are just samples. Be great!

I just turned 15 and will be going into my sophomore year. I have always
heard about the emphasis of having a high release point, and it works very
well for lob passes for me. However, whenever I try to throw a bullet pass,
the ball is always high of where I'm trying to put the ball. Please refer
me to a video or provide some tips.
High release point is good - just make sure the front tip of the football is not pointing up when throwing a shorter or 'bullet' pass. Point that index finger on the throwing hand right at your target when you release and follow through. High arm angle and high release point are a little different. Always want high arm angle to throw over the line and get good velocity, but higher release point is more for deep balls. Either way though, snap that thing off so the front nose of the ball is slightly downward or comes down on the deep ball.

Great videos and keep up the good work! I was wondering if you can give me
some tips with the throwing motion and quick release cause i'm having some
troubles with it. If you don't mind do you think you can make a tutorial?
It would be great if you can cause i'm planning to try out for qb at my
school. Thanks and good luck!
"He's pushing the ball like Phillip Rivers" .... uhhh what? Phillip Rivers
is a four time pro bowl QB haha. Go watch the Jim Harbaugh video on
