How to Eliminate Render Blocking CSS in Above-the-Fold Content in WordPress
In this lecture from The Official WpFASTER.org WP Speed Optimization Master Course, learn how to Eliminate Render Blocking CSS in Above-the-Fold Content.
Hello and thanks for your video! Im new to wordpress and programming. I
followed every step but get stuck on minute 7 of the video. Which exact
file or where do I go to see the source code changes? I opened my web and
pressed F12 but dont see any changes. I don't know what main web file
stores this info and where I can edit it: opening index file on my ftp
shows barely no code so I asume im in the wrong place... sorry I don't know
much allthough the pagespeed test gave me slightly better results but the
problem stil persists. (Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in
above-the-fold content) thanxs.
+Ben Mckay Hello Ben,I understand that as a WordPress novice your questions seem very simple and straightforward. Unfortunately, to get to the bottom of your issue i would have to ask you about million questions lol. ;)I do not mean to sound like i am simply pitching the WpFASTER course, but you really should take it. Information on how to get a discount can be found in the video description, above.Be well,AJ
Finally, your method solved my WP problem. But how can i solve this -
//fonts.googleapis.com/…Raleway:700|Roboto+Slab:300&subset=latin ...
It is showing 1 blocking CSS.
+WpFASTER.org Thanks for the reply. I implemented your suggestions, one good news and one bad news. The good news is, it works with Desktop and my score is now 95. But bad news for mobile, my score went down to 67 from 75 and showing same google font. I have checked this through developer.google.com. My theme is 100% responsive. Any suggestion?
+ThatsRight Google fonts are external to your site and so cannot be inlined unless they are uploaded to your server. This is true of any externally served CSS file(s).What I recommend you try for Google Fonts is the Google Webfont Optimizer plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-webfont-optimizer/ Be sure to exclude "WebFontConfig" (no quotes) in Autoptimize's comma separated JavaScript exclusion list.Bear in mind that after installing and activating the plugin, PageSpeed Insights may or may not recognize that you are asynchronously loading Google Fonts. Indeed your scores may actually go down. But what we're ultimately after is real-world improvements for our sites' users, not improved grades on any synthetic (and often wrong) online best practices tool, including PSI. This is why WpFASTER primarily recommends using Google's real-world performance testing platform, WebPageTest.orgLet me know how it goes!AJ
+Cristhian Almora Hi Cristhian,Yes, but nothing that will prove to be more performant for your site than using Autoptimize (the plugin demoed in the video).Be well,AJ
Hi WpFASTER.org,
Im having the same issue!

Should Fix:
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 2 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering
your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without
waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously
load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources
directly in the HTML.
Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:
//csmsecuritylocksmiths.uk/…ize_3c7ab9dc89a79861c3237aac7eebdf82.css
//csmsecuritylocksmiths.uk/…ize_70776ba3b0cd3d168027514c098550c9.css
Please can you help me fix this?
+CSM Security Locksmiths Hi, thanks for your reply! When I done what was stated in the tutorial it made some pages on my site load differently. Maybe its the theme Parabola I'm using, as it changes the layout of my pages and txt colour which I couldn't change! I found a way to speed up site speed through changing my site address in general settings in Wordpress. Ive just got to move wordpress file to index.php. It makes mobile speed go to 89/100 and desktop to 94/100, which is fast enough. It still states that I need to eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content though. I think I will leave it as its not really effecting site speed now. Thanks anyway.
+CSM Security Locksmiths Hi,But... Eh? ;) the video answers exactly this question, mate: how to convert those Autoptimize files into inline, non-render-blocking CSS.You'll need to explain where it is you've gotten lost for me to help further, my friend.Be well,AJ
+John Horn Hi John,That is a dynamic (i.e. PHP) file my friend. PHP files cannot be aggregated by any minification/concatenation plugin. My advice would be to get up the theme/plugin developers a$! about why they feel the need to load your websites custom CSS dynamically lol. ;) Be well,AJ
+Edivan Santtos Hi Edivan. Autoptimize. As demoed in the video.Be well,AJ
