Rehearing En Banc" filed by ProtectMarriage "dot" com. Of course, that
petition was expected, & the case may VERY well wind up in the SUPREME
COURT OF THE UNITED STATES within about 2 years. Yes, U R correct about the
State of Maine; in the meantime, North Carolina placed something on THEIR
ballot 4 this MAY under the aegis of "we R the Say-outh."
Jay & Bryan, you've earned my deepest admiration. Not only did I recently
subcribe to your YT channel, I also added videos dedicated to
homoparenthood on my playlist. You do a fantastic "social" work in
communicating so naturally your openmindness. We are millions to support
your principles of equality. Racism, sexism, homophobia are spread by
haters, uneducated persons, bigots and manipulators. There is less and less
of them in North America and more and more positively minded people. Bravo!
Defending civil rights through referendums is definitely not the most
appropriate manner to achieve global equality. Civil rights have to be
ruled by Supreme Court of a country and be part of the constitution. Racism
is not subjected to so-called "democratic" referendums. It remains to the
Judicial System to rule on civil rights. Of course, this is a Canadian
opinion. Here, that was the unique way to make sure that provincial and
territorial juridictions all comply with Federal Supreme Court.
@xxzxcxxmetwin - You brought a good point. In Canada, homosexuality is
legalized since 1969, in Québec, discrimination based on sexual orientation
is strictly prohibited since 1977 and Canada legalized same-sex marriage in
2005. As years go by, general public fully accepts our "différence",
especially in Québec. Population says: "Well, now, it's all legal." So,
after legal recognition is ruled, daily life brings equal opportunities to
all. Subscribe to my gay-themed YT channel!!!
@firstatheist - (Part 2 of 2) In the U.S. and in Canada, it's the Federal
Supreme Court that rules on and protects civil rights, not referendums. So,
any type of recourse other than the judicial road is a pure waste of
energy, money and time. The population doesn't necessarily have the same
fair perception of the principles of equality as the courts do. Feel free
to watch on my YT channel 90 videos depicting what cultural diversity is
all about in 12 languages. Your new friend Guy.
@mrquiet2009 - (part 2 of 2) - In Canada, if we had waited for all the
local and regional parliaments to recognize our civil rights for same-sex
marriage and homoparenthood, we would still fight on what constitutes
social justice, not the whim of a segment of the population. Civil rights
are not "negociable" with voters. It'a a matter concerning the highest
Court of Justice in the land. There shouldn't be any more 2nd-class
citizens and this shall not be determined by referendums.
@LGBTparNatureAussi I agree with you completely. The Supreme Court is likely
to hear the case against Prop 8 (California) later on this year or early
next year. If we win, the decision could possibly overturn other states
anti-marriage equality laws depending upon how broad the decision is. Cases
against DOMA (the federal law) will also have to eventually be taken on by
the Supreme Court though when this will happen is anyone's guess. This is
because numerous courts cont.
@firstatheist - (Part 1 of 2) You are of a realism and clear-sightedness
that horour you! Indeed, whatever the outcome of referendums or laws
ratified at the state level, there will always be some substances
challenged in court. Thus, go the way taken by Canada and other countries
such as Argentina, Belgium, Iceland, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal,
Spain, South Africa and Sweden where same-sex marriages are legally
recognized nationally. (cont'd.)..
@depfox Kudos to you for your participation in the fund raiser at the MCC
church in San Francisco. People who support marriage equality need to
realize that it takes money and organization to educate others about
same-sex marriage and how important it is that it is passed and protected.
If there are referenda in Maryland and Washington, the side of gay marriage
needs to win, and that will not happen unless right-minded citizens work to
make it happen.
@mrquiet2009 - (part 1 of 2) - I am totally supportive of your fights in
the U.S. to exercise your civil rights not to be second-class citizens as
were Blacks for so long. You should not wait until the 50th state
eventually approved by "referendum" your civil rights. It belongs to the
Federal Supreme Court to recognize same-sex marriages and homoparenthood
and enforce them in all states and dependencies of your great country. (to
be cont'd.)
Yay for my state! Maryland. :) Time to fight the referendum. One of my
current state Senators, Norman R. Stone, was in the senate in 1967 and
voted against repealing our state ban on interracial marriage. He held up
his scandalous tradition by voting against marriage for same-sex couples.
So, I sent him an email expressing my deep disappointment in his history
and his current vote; his wife replied, "Good Research."
Yeah My state allows it............now. I know there is going to be people
closed to the idea just because of their religion or they think it's gross
or something; I'll never stop trying to make a change and to keep Gay
Marriage legal in my state (I'm hoping that soon it will be allowed
everywhere!) It always upsets me when someone tries to prevent other people
from the human rights they should already have. :)
See, now it would be exciting to be an LGBTQ young adult, fighting for
marriage equality, being apart of gay history, even in a small way. I
can't, as I'm Canadian and we got national gay marriage the year before I
even knew I was gay. I hope any out and proud LGBTQ person, young or old
living in Washington or Maryland really work their asses off to maintain
their rights!
As you know, Washington state has a very good organization, Equal Rights
Washington, that has spearheaded the fight for marriage equality. Anyone
interested in justice and progress who lives there can volunteer to help
out, and others from outside the state can donate to the cause. Just look
up Equal Rights Washington on Google and go to its website.
Yeah, Washington (my state) is in for an interesting fight to keep marriage
equality. Seattle has a sizable LGBT community and I imagine the resistance
will be centered from there. I know I'm going to loose it when I'm walking
around Seattle and A petitioner presents me with referendum 71(repeal
marriage equality initiative).
New York was a BIG plus in our column, things usually go the way NY does on
these kinds of issues. I want to urge everyone to get involved somehow,
it's very important to let others know how you feel including your
politicians. Also i suggest you ask your church if they fund ANTI gay
activities. You might be suprised. 1 LIFE
