Holly's Story: Major Back Trauma Relieved by Lumbar Disc Replacement Surgery
After being the victim of a tragic drunk driving hit-and-run, Holly Schechter found herself in debilitating back pain, transforming her life into one of chronic pain ...
I'm 24 years old I had a Laminectomy almost 2 years ago. I herniated 2
discs the L-4 S3 and the L-5 S1 during a leg press set. The L4 was pinching
the Sciatic nerve and was a lot of pain 24/7. The L5 was herniated but not
much, so the Neurosurgen decided that there's no need to touch the L5 but
the L4 needed to be fixed.
He removed the fragmented disc particles and liberated the nerve. Nothing
more nothing less. It was an instant releved , surgery was on september
2013 I was on the Gym on March 2014 doing normal rutines not too much
weight do.
Now after almost 2 years I'm feeling severe lower back tension and when I
lift weights I feel some pinch on the right side of the lower back. I need
to ice my back everyday just to drop the preassure. I think I need to get a
disc replacement in L4 and L5 cause I don't want to keep living like an old
man I"m a baseball player love the Gym and everything that has to be with
physical activities. Also I wanna be able to play with my kids when the day
comes. Just to feel normal again.
Thanks and any advices are welcome.

I had my rotor-cuff done in 07 the trick is to keep it a little mobile.10
days or so post op take it out of the sling a few times a day support the
weight of it by putting your other hand under your elbow and move it
slightly not to extremity's & just till it get painful, this way the scar
tissue wont attach where its not ment to & should stop u getting frozen
shoulder.. pain is your body's way of telling u not to aggravate a
injury..+ get a good sports related physio its worth the extra £s.
I had shoulder surgery the end of March and had unbelievable arm pain after
I started physical therapy 7 weeks postop. I tried all the antinflammatory
pills. Three months in I got a steroid injection. But, it wasn't until I
went to a recommended chiropractor who slam-bang broke those adhesions that
formed post-op that I got relief. Within one visit I was a new person. Pain
is real! A limb immobilized for a long time is required for labral repair,
but sucks when it comes to pain management.
in the u.k its so different had subcromial decompression, shoulder
arthroscopy partial synovectomy maipulation of shoulder joint, capsular
realease with two nerve blocks under general anesthetic. day surgery. two
hours after was give toast and tea once able to eat and drink was
discharged given no pain releif had to go and get over the counter pain
killers eight weeks later i am in agonising pain and movement is worse than
before cant lay down to sleep its crap tried everything
I also went the chiropractor route for the "slam bam" after 3 months of
debilitating post op pain. After one "upper thoracic" adjustment I got off
pain pills. Two more adjustments and not much more happened so stopped.
But, I'll never forget the joint setting back into its proper place. I am a
PhD in Exercise Science with an RN. Only now I realize, yes, pain is real.
And orthopedic surgeons are not much use after they put down the knife.
I am in more pain now than before surgery..my doctor will not help, wont
investigate..told me I was not in pain and if I wanted more drugs to see
another dr. I do not want drugs..I want the pain to stop..If you have any
suggestions I would appricate it...the pain, at times, is almost more than
I can bare..gastic by pass and tummy tuck did not hurt this bad...knee
surgery did not hurt this bad...I just want the pain to stop...
@mikul515 My surgery was for a severly torn tendon, not bone spurs. The
surgery in my case was day surgery and I woke up in no pain whatsoever. I
would assume that if the bone spur surgery was done with the small
incisions as I had, you would have little or no pain, as my Dr said she
"cleaned up a couple of spurs" while she was in there. I had more
discomfort from the heat rash of the sling than the surgery. Good luck!
I have been in misery from the pain of a suspected rotator cuff tear for 3
months. I am on pain meds and going to physio. I had a cortisone shot 2
weeks ago. I am still in excrucitating pain. I am getting an ultrasound
this week and seeing a surgeon next week. I hope I don't have to wait too
long to get it fixed. I am a musican and play 5 stringed instruments. I
can't play any of them now.
I had a rotator cuff repair/spur removal done 3 days ago and the heat rash
associated with wearing the sling is FAR worse than the pain from my
surgery. In fact I am in no pain unless I stress the shoulder in some way.
Kudos to my surgeon!!
I had Bankart repair, and he is right. I was surprised how good I felt the
next day. I thought I wasn't going to get out of bed more for a few days,
but I was out with my friends, taking it easy of course.

Curious, the difference between the same surgery in the USA and Canada. I
had this done 5 weeks ago for a "massive" tear. I felt good enough to drive
home after the surgery (I wasn't allowed to, but I could have). I have had
no pain from the surgery (only from wearing the sling ((heat rash)). I have
been to physio for 3 weeks now and started light weights today. I was only
able to have partial repair due to the extreme damage, but it seems odd
that our cases are similar with different outcomes.
they take longer to repair. I have been using arnica montana gel which
heals muscle tissue quicker. It is a homeopathic gel that you can get at
vitamin shoppe or just do a search for it online. The biggest thing i
wished people told me after surgery is NOT to take the drugs that they
prescribe for you. Just take advil (ibuprofen) 4 or 5 of them to stop the
pain and it gets rid of swelling. The idea to healing is to keep the
swelling down hence all of the icing you will be doing. The effects of
Yeah I had surgery on Oct28. My range of motion is at about 140 degrees..
180 degrees is the ideal range. I go to theapy twice a week still. They
stretch me out and then work in a pool for strength with different
exercises. I am just now starting to lie on that side. They went in to
repair a labral tear and then realized that i had no attachment to hook the
labrum onto. I tore that off too. They had to drill 3 holes and screw in
three anchors. ouch! bones are typically avascular so that means
@cmcil I know you post this comment long time ago but i totally agree with
you. I got this type of surgery 2 months ago n the side effects of the
medication almost killed me! I didn't take any pain killer either. It was
hell for me... I've never been sick n I don't take anything that contain
chemicals, so my body reacted furiously bcz it's clean.Doctors should NOT
prescribe these drugs, they know these are not good for us. These drugs may
take away the pain but destroy other organs!
the drugs were worse than the pain of the surgery. I was sooo sick throwing
up and not being able to make a bowel movement for 4 days! I really hate
the FDA for putting crap like this out and then trying to ban things like
raw milk that is so good for you, okay don't get me started on that!
Anyway, just remember that you don't want to push yourself too much up to
week 6 and then you can go a litle more at stretching first and then
strengthening second.
hey have u under gone a surgery ,,,, how long is the pain exist. im goin to
do a sergery and im prety freked out...... it some times tearsme for the
fact that i wont b able to do wat i didbe fore. is it true thatu cant lift

I had both shoulders done 13 months apart. Took 7 months before I was back
to normal and then wham the other shoulder hit!! I am an R.N. and allergic
to pain meds. I cried alot but am so grateful now. I am 9 weeks out and
this shoulder is coming along ...still painful.
Sorry bout that. I am having shoulder surgery tomorrow for a labrum tear
and other tears and I am nervous as a cat on a roof. Will I be in a lot of
pain afterwards? They are doing an arm block and arthriscopic surgery. I
hate not being able to use my left arm!
