In order to comply with the Criminal Code, the Wildlife Code, and the Firearm Owner’s Identification Act, when transporting a firearm, it must be: 1.broken down in a non-functioning state; or 2.not immediately accessible; or 3.unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container by a person who has been issued a currently valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.

There have been so many people in Illinois have been applying for a FOID card and the issuing or denying of FOID cards are backed up, So it will take longer than 30 days like stated on the Illinois state police website. Questions about the FOID card should be directed to the Illinois state police FOID Section by phone at ( 217 ) 782 - 7980 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ( CST ) central standard time Monday through Friday.

This guy in this video said that they are supposed to issue or deny a FOID card application within 60 days, However this is not true the Illinois state police are supposed to issue or deny a FOID application within 30 days. FOID = Firearms owner identification card You must be 18 year old with a parents signature or wait until you are 21 year old and apply for a FOID card and then you Do not need a parents signature.

I passed a background check and paid for my handgun. However 8 hours later I was told that my FOID was denied for some reason. I have nothing in my past that would raise a red flag. I did change my address two months ago and am waiting for my new FOID card with the new address. Do any of you think the address change is the reason why I was initially denied? Been asking this question everywhere.....lol

An addendum onto this video I would like to point out is that if you are in the presence of someone with a FOID then they can handle your weapon at a range etc. (Meaning your friends and family can shoot with you, they just cannot take your weapons out of your sight and cannot buy ammunition.)

I agree. I have no problem with the Police having that info. In fact, I think it is good that they have it. But it should be encrypted and keep away from the public. I'm not a fan of the waiting period for repeat gun owners either. Once you have waited for you first pistol purchase, there is no reason you should have to wait for the second.

Quick questions if you will. What laws do the getting your ccl override? In chicago and cook county there are magazine capacity testrictions. However illinois residenrs with a ccl do not have such restrictions. There is also an assauly weapons ban, but some cook county gun shops sell them. Does a ccl also override the ban? Because the ban also prohibits sales even if those gun shops would only sell the to non COOK residents.

+Adrian Soto The only thing I am not sure about is having an AK or AR pistol in Chicago, because they're technically handguns under NFA law. I'm sure they'd be fine now with the CC laws overriding local authority. Plus, 5.56 is much safer for home defense than most handgun rounds like 9mm or .45ACP because it is less likely to over penetrate with a light grain (like 55gr). Most pistol rounds will zip right through the bad guy and through most of your house.

The concealed carry laws only apply to handguns. The "assault" weapons ban in Cook only applies to long guns. So, registration of long guns and such still applies in areas with ordinances, but the concealed carry law overrides such ordinances when it comes to handguns.

I just read that most FOID request come in 30 days? In New Jermany it takes us MONTHS to get our cards. When I say months it took me 6 months, but I know people that have waited a year. Address change took 11 weeks. While that took place you can't by guns or pistol ammo in the state. Also your application and every time you want to by a pistol requires you to provide your employeer and two "references". They usually engage the references and let them know you want to buy & they have a say.

I live in Iowa for most of the year but was born in Illinois. I went through Iowa's system to get a handgun which included a 5 day waiting period and an FBI background check. When I went to buy a gun, I could not because I have an Illinois ID. Now I have to wait another 30 days to get the same FBI background check. What the fuck is this? I only want a .22!

Second update lol- my wife called about her Foid card today 9/11/13, keep in mind she sent hers march 16th and they told her they have no record of her application and it was probably lost and her only option was to reapply. That's 6 months no Foid, no $10 refund and only option is to send them 10 more dollars when they already cashed the first check, what is wrong with this picture. I wish I could call someone who could actually help

Yea it's downright silly, I'm going to call again next week and see where it is in the process. I sent it April 5th, nothing happened till may 16th when they cashed my check, then it took till June 6th for it to make it to the background department, that's where it still sits, unless its in the mail hopefully. What?! That is ridiculous! I have heard this sort of time table from a good number of guys, and am just irritated at this long wait (some just for renewal). My wife's might of made it through quicker due to it being her first time getting one. Thanks to all the anti-gunners ramblings she was convinced they where "silly" and irrational, and decided to get a FOID.

You are right about being able to handle the cold. I've got Bohemian/German fur. :) To be sure crime is much higher and will always be in cities. I like having a yard, seeing trees, and not having a 10 mile commute that takes 55 minutes. Thanks for watching!

I am a bit fuzzy on the how long now . . . I recall over a month. Maybe it was between 4-6 weeks that she got it back. This is not "bad" from what I hear others are taking longer. Thanks for commenting!

Update-I made my month call to ISP and they said my application is still in the background check and hasn't been mailed yet, so to date it's been 2 1/2 months for a background check

It sure seems like it. I see our Governor signed a new law that in 2014 private sales will need a background check done by the Sheriff's department too - great. :(

I've sent mine early April, I'm right at 4 months waiting, it's been in the background check department since June 6th

In June we should have a ccw law passes. I am hopeful for a "shall issue" state, but it is likely with a heaver fee.
