It does work. Just follow the steps exactly as he says and you will get the correct answer. I multiplied 999x99 and got 98,901 from using his steps, then checked on my calculator and I was correct.

put the 2 digit number down if it's for your first answer. but if it's any other answer after that use the carry method

Multiplication by 9 is so easy on your head that doing it with your hands is completely useless. I thought you were going to teach how to do 679x953 using hands similar to a soroban.

@LeoLxx7 haha, I actually just learned this one month ago. When I first saw it I was AMAZED! I've since tried to teach my sister but she finds it confusing. Oh well...

the fastest way to multiply by 9 is to multiply by 10 and than substract the other number.. example 9x9= 10x9-9=81.....or 9x5= 10x5-5=45

Yay! I love this trick. I remember being 7 or 8 and seeing someone do this and being absolutely captivated. :D I'm so sad... I know.

thats cool and all, but by 3rd grade you should know your multiplications my memory all the way upto at least 12x12

it's really not hard to do in the head for example 9 x 13 equals 130-13 117 9 x 45 450-450=405

OR you could just memorize it and recognize the answer by the numbers that are together

MEEEEEE... I didn't learn it. They taught us to memorize but this is FAR more kool.

I always do this e.g 7 Times 9 . 7 times 10 (- 7)= 63

+IBRAHIM ALI nope. It could work until 8 places or more, but it becomes more and more calculated. If you do it right though, it would save time compared to the regular long method.

yes the same method, you do the last 2, then last four, then last six, then last eight, then last ten, then, 8, 6, 4, 2 and you get your answer, when you do 5, do top right digit with bottom left and top left with bottom right, then the middle ones are vertical and the others diagonal. the fours are always diagonals and all even numbers

+hi bye 24x32 => i would use "base" 30 for that. so i have -6 and +2 => 30*30 + (-6+2)*30 + (-6*2) =>900 + (-4)*30 -12 => 900 - 120 - 12 = 780 -12 = [768]

Keep in mind that it's misleading. That's not what a base actually is

+Awesomegirl329 Msp i'll give u an example if the case was 96 * 26 => as 96 can be divided by 3 =>=> 3 * (32*26) . and u already know how to solve that ("base" 30). Then u multiply by 3. Ex:32*26 = 900 + ((2-4)*30) + (-4*2) = 900 + (-2*30) - 8 = 900 -60 -8 = 832 [=32*26] , then u multiply it by 3 =>=> 832 * 3 = 2496 , and that will be the answer of 96 * 26. if you want to know 97*26 , just add 26 =>=> 2496+26 = 2522. It's long but u just need to focus to be able to solve it mentally.
