earth like planet just really really hot.... I understand why they call other planets exoplanets. because its in goldylock zone and right size. however I don't get why they say earth like planet if those planets are really really hot. it almost feels like temperature doesn't really matter when u describe a planet as earth like planet. or I get something wrong? is it not just simple planet in a solar system far far away. ok well maybe people could Live there under ground or go out with super advanced space costumes which protect astronauts from the heat I guess it's not as terribly bad as in Venus still. if we take mars. mars is more likely like earth like planet although it lacks of protecting gravity Field but it can support liquid water and temperatures is just low but not terribly deadly or impossible to stand.....
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-X4u5O0PeQfU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAADGQ/D2iJq6mNVxs/photo.jpg?sz=64
oh and yea I totally agree with people saying that life shouldnt necessary need life support what we need. yet saying earth like planet is kind of misleading....
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-xN7NRugGayk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAGF0/4hz3EZjiuRs/photo.jpg?sz=64
This video gave more questions than answers: How can scientists possibly tell that a planet light-years away is rocky? And also what types of gases its atmosphere has?Concluding that it has one.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0e3FSl5MvrA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAA4A/-7ECmnBRF3k/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Robert Ibeh Well they can determine the mass of a planet by how much light the planet blocks as it passes the star, also how the star wobbles or is pulled by a planet in orbit around it.  A small planet with more mass or density and that can effect its star in such a way,  must be a rocky plant.  On another note, this planet has a solar orbit of only 1.6 days and is only 1.4 million miles away from its star. Although the star is a red dwarf, its only 1/5th the size of our sun, its close orbit would give the planet a surface temperature of 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

Why do people always claim that life on certain planets is unlikely... We never been there nor seen it nor have samples of them. Life evolves and adapts to its habitat. Because we need food, water and oxygen here doesn't mean life needs exactly the same type on different planets. Every life on earth is made, shaped and created because of what Earth provides. So I am pretty sure that other planets could contain life but maybe not in the way we think or could even imagine. Because they they might eat, drink and/or breath different things. And also their shape mighy be different due to its planets gravity and such.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0hPoWipAV7o/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAGUY/QwygZCBlZBY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+MrTron if we want to find life as we have on earth it will take too long.We probably have destroyed earth before that time comes.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual You're right, but I'm just saying those planets aren't covered with obvious life like the Earth.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0hPoWipAV7o/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAGUY/QwygZCBlZBY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+MrTron as if a robot or a probe could completely scan the planet. It didn't look below the ground or inside a mountain or wherever. It took samples but you cant prove life from a dirt sample.ow well each their opinions I guess
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kVSJHevyLUY/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABI/XExYWE28aNI/photo.jpg?sz=64
PREACH!!!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual We've had rovers on Mars for years and we've landed a few short-lived probes on Venus. There certainly wasn't any obvious signs of life as there is on the Earth.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0hPoWipAV7o/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAGUY/QwygZCBlZBY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+MrTron do we know they don't? Have we physically been there to see and check it out.And those planets are just a few of the +billion around us.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual True, but we've never seen life without liquid water. If life could exist without it, why don't other planets in the solar system such as Venus and Mars have life?
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iO3_f5bw7Ow/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAp0/rmMxGbPLajM/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual Jesus christ, no-one is saying it's impossible. Scientists are merely claiming that it is unlikely. They are two different things.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0hPoWipAV7o/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAGUY/QwygZCBlZBY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Jaz Gulati then you are shortsighted like the rest who claim that.Totally focused on this world.Knowing only life as seen in real life and/or sciencefiction. Impossible to think out of the box.Thats not me.You simply cannot claim stuff without physical proof.Proof that is (for now) beyond our reach. We aren't even able to fully explore our oceans but scientists already claim stuff on other planets we've never been before.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0e3FSl5MvrA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAA4A/-7ECmnBRF3k/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual Well a theory is a compilation of known facts and the outcome can be replicated. But as for life, the only life we can look for at the moment is life that is similar to us. We have no other examples to go off.  As for not going to the moon, I would ask yourself why would one say we haven't been there, because it is possible. The new shielding they're creating for the next generation of space craft is being deigned so we can not only pass through the Van Allen belt and space in safety, but for far longer periods of time and the radiation or highly charged particles don't interfere with the delicate electronics that are now being used. You have to remember that the computer systems and electronics in the vehicles that went to the moon were on a similar scale to old TV sets, they could handle far more abuse than what we have today. One only needs to take a stick of RAM out of a computer un-earthed and your body static alone can fry the thing.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0hPoWipAV7o/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAGUY/QwygZCBlZBY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+ProjectsBlack I just find it hard to believe scientists that base science on theories. We havent been on another planet yet.And no neither has man ever set foot on the moon.Even wonder why it never happened again?Just sayin...
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0hPoWipAV7o/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAGUY/QwygZCBlZBY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Zack Butler I know but other planets have that temperature as the best. For us it might seem hot or cold but for those from there its normal.Imagine that they could be saying the same thing about us."Oh no that planet is 20 degrees thats way to hot/cold to sustain life and their gravity is way too high/low for life to be present there...etc etc etc"
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iO3_f5bw7Ow/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAp0/rmMxGbPLajM/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual The reason why we claim life on certain planets is unlikely is because we aren't aware of any kind of life that would be able to survive in such conditions. Is that so hard to understand?
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0e3FSl5MvrA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAA4A/-7ECmnBRF3k/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual This planet has a surface temperature of about 500 degrees F. So any water based life form would probably be impossible. How one would maintain a biological system without the use of water, or at that high temperature is something else. Trying to even comprehend a life form other than one water based, or with a fluid molecular structure other than that of water, is rather difficult. This is only one of many planets found, it was in fact found in 2014, but there could be many more planets out there with a more Earth-like environment. The James Webb space telescope will be launched in October 2018, only this uses spectroscopy, it not only detects a planet in orbit around its star, but it looks at the planets atmospheric composition. All the claims about an X planets atmospheric composition, apart from the gas giants, are pure guess work, they just don't know. So put down 2018 in your calendar because it should get very interesting in the very near future. Enjoy!
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-pbEvu3JtWcw/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABk/-tdrNBya4sk/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Zack Butler On Earth that is, Alien life could have started and evolved in a completely different way. The term moderate is very subjective.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-pbEvu3JtWcw/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABk/-tdrNBya4sk/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req ual Thank you, finally people who get it, holy fuck it pisses me off so much.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-qejpcYI4iC4/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAJtQ/BHnDMRCnF-M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Req pal The temperatures stated in the video are reached in many places on Earth as well, though no life is present there. Life is simply more likely in moderate temperatures.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-tx_UgoZbhFI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAjE/t2O66jqOoeY/photo.jpg?sz=64
Finaly someone said it all some people do is look for a planet which could sustain earth life rather than other types of unknown life.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Exectly. When she mentioned the temperature, i was thinking the same.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-johpYJgryCg/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACY/09X23r9f8Tw/photo.jpg?sz=64
+My Unself exactly! i.e when its observed. hence it exists at that moment. You can only see what exists NOW. If these telescopes are capturing images from millions if not billions of years ago...one could argue that they are time machines for the eyes only.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_DOFWgB6f7M/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABU/2phcdQtC5pk/photo.jpg?sz=64
a light year is a measure of distance, it depends really on the physical units that are used to describe the system. if you use "natural units", where the dimensions of time and of space are the same, then light years are a real term.

it doesn't matter, any world we find that we can survive on will probably have life which will infect us as we infect it and we'll be all killed by microscopic viruses.

+Davis Smith I'm not trying to discourage further exploration, I'm just realistic about the futility of being hopeful about finding a similar planet.  We won't live long enough to get there, and if we do make it, everything will kill us.  Earth is not such a bad prison.

+My Unself because I'm not a conspiracy nut I don't really buy into the idea there are forces behind the scene suppressing super tech. but you are correct we do have the knowledge on how to goto the stars. the original orion project is actually feasible to get to a percentage of light speed where time dilation kicks in. but we know that a much simpler system, and the ultimate imo is that of using antimatter. we still haven't cracked fusion yet, that could be huge but still wouldn't have the output as am. I've been keeping an eye on the emdrive and similar projects. they could have potentials for interstellar travel but they need a lot of work, even if you gave them a push with conventional means and gravity assists they would take hundreds or thousands of years to slow down at their destination. the big announcement of the warp drive a few years ago was really over hyped, what everyone seemed to miss was that it required exotic matter just like hypothesis for making a wormhole. that's when I called bullshit on it because we're farther away from understanding how to make exotic matter and exactly what it is then we are from making technology based on using it. it's like saying I can make a time machine but I just need some idontknowium, when asked what that stuff does they say it makes a time machine, kinda circular lohic if you ask me. but hey I'm not a scientist. if you got anything that actually supports what you saying please post or link.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zxH8zBihtSk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABc/UqjLKLaef-w/photo.jpg?sz=64
+SnakeJones09 this addresses your second comment. it is amazing how far computer technology has come. in the 70s we dreamed by now we would be like star trek, but we missed the role of computers. however even computers are still in their infancy of the potential they can one day have. we will look back in 2 or 3 decades and think of these smart phones and new computers as simple and crude. as far as patents go, they are a major bane on innovation today. they are used solely to monopolize and create preasure against competition often without legit cause. many many patents don't even work, they are screwball ideas with no prototype or are so vague to not be able to truly identify what it is being patented. anyone submitting a patent can ask for it to be sealed, this is being more common of a practice as countries like china watch the patents submitted in order to steal these ideas...and some are good ideas worth stealing. I'm sure some also do have legit national security reasons for being seale, but it doesn't mean the idea is doable.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zxH8zBihtSk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABc/UqjLKLaef-w/photo.jpg?sz=64
+SnakeJones09 your realize there are people who love astronomy and some of them have jobs as astronomers, others are physicists and the like who are not the same people who design rocksets. most are academics and almost none work for nasa. there work does not go hand in hand with plans for interstellar travel. a fee lucky astronomers get to utilize nasa's equipment for short bits of time. a smaller even luckier get ideas proposed to nasa built, but they are once again not submitting plans for interstellar spaceships. actually the biggest and greatest sat project for identifying earth like planets got killed by nasa just a few years ago because the damn astronomers couldn't decide on what type of spectrometer to put on it.however now I'll make a case that actually supports the coordination between the two. it has been pointless to even consider interstellar travel. without knowing a destination to strive for your wasting time and money. however due to the exoplanets discoveries in just the last decade we now actually know there are places we could go. as of yet nothing more promising then what we can find right here in our own solar system. but that may change, it may change very soon. the discovery of a planet with a Gia atmosphere would be a wake up call for innovation to get there.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_DOFWgB6f7M/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABU/2phcdQtC5pk/photo.jpg?sz=64
the science of reaching other galaxies already exists, the science of anti gravity propulsion systems and vacuum energy extraction etc, only that this information is deliberately being kept away from the public for selfish egotistical reasons, by sociopaths that are behind the black operations that have access to this information, as well as by the broken system that literally maintains itself by inertia of public denial and by a social cognitive bias, where people keep placing their trust in rogue establishment branches like NASA and the CIA and others.only once the people rise up and break the pattern, replace the government and take control back for the people, and replace this faulty collective consciousness, only once we have actual disclosure, only then will this change. and we will finally be able to truly explore the universe and end wars.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-MZLVylbtq7w/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACY/N_-53IIa7qk/photo.jpg?sz=64
+SnakeJones09 Are you aware of how many scientific patents get classified for national security reasons a year? Its a bullshit story. Meant to give us the illusion they are making scientific advances for our benefit. Should of colonised the solar system by now. How long ago did they land men on the moon? With the computer power equivalent of what they put into Furbies today.

+Code Slinger No, no, no. Not a science denier at all. What I am is a guy who just sees it go too waste on crap like this. If ever we achieved the ability of traversing even a single light years distance anywhere, the average person would never hear about it. All the real "Science" isn't meant for you or I. They are laughing at us as they give us these little bullshit stories. This is not "Science"!
