your video. Please email me via sean dot mclaughlin at rightster dot com.
Thanks, Matt! I am a Vermonter, big traveler, and living out of state now
but always love home this time of year even if I can't get there. GREAT
VIDEO! #ILOVERMONT :)
Interesting points. Seems you were picking apart O'Reilly and Watters. Not
that your points were not valid. Did you seek to balance with what O'Reilly
did well? You are not allowed to say ,"Nothing". I would have felt more
open if you paralleled other liberal news outlets like The New York Times.
You mentioned that paper as an afterthought. The Addison Independent in
Vermont promotes the pipeline, liberal candidates and higher taxes to pay
for unaffordable projects. They also published the tax sale of my property
of which the town of Monkton,Vermont neglected to notify me. When I wrote a
letter to the editor, I didn't even get a response. Mortified at my name
being in the paper without my knowledge, I asked for a copy of the
advertising I paid for. The Addison Independent never sent me anything. Our
taxes were 9 months late on a farm in our family 100 years+ $10,000. We are
broken by taxes. By denying me a voice, the Addison Independent effectively
promotes house flipping. By tearing apart only O'Reilly, you may get an A,
but you are also engaging in bias. My opinion.
+Mary Gerdt I urge you to watch the entire piece because the kids say that they do not limit their critique of journalism to just conservative based outlets. Indeed the same teaching unit and instructors prepared a piece only months before that questioned inaccurate reporting by the NY Times.
+helmedonSpecial Report is a hard news show just as much as CBS Evening News or any of the rest of them.I know it's uncomfortable for the left not having a total monopoly on information any more. My heart bleeds.
+blue222blue The entire network is entertainment and opinion, not scientific or a hard news report. Placing "satire" within a supposedly hard news program is disingenuous at best.
+blue222blue Oh that's cute. Of course you're going to think it's fair and balanced, your preference for the program makes you see it through rose-colored glasses. Fox News either mostly makes up or completely lies about roughly 60% of the things they report. msnbc and nbc didn't do too well either, at 44%. CNN, though, had 80% half true or better. //www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2015/jan/29/punditfact-checks-cable-news-channels/And although it's not a comprehensive study of every single statement said, it's from an unbiased source that checks political facts. It also says Fox news viewers tend to be the most uninformed of any other channel, even compared to people like me who don't watch the news (because it's slanted, or "ideological" in both directions, not just right)//www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2011/11/21/fox-news-viewers-uninformed-npr-listeners-not-poll-suggests/I'm an independent, not a liberal, although I imagine that doesn't really matter to you anyway. I don't think left-wing media is perfect and right-wing is shite, I think they both tend to cherry-pick and sensationalize news, and inject their own opinions like facts. It's a marketing tactic to get more viewers and more money, because that's every network's ultimate goal. You may care about Fox News, but it doesn't care about you or even about its own principals as much as it cares about money. Same goes for the other channels, the point is that nobody is perfect and you shouldn't be so blinded by your personal interested that you're not able to see the possible flaws. You can love something and still see ways that it could be made better. If people couldn't do that we'd never have be able to evolve as a society.
+christmastigerI think Fox is way more fair and balanced than the others.Fox panels are usually two liberals and two conservatives. For years I watched Meet the Press, Face the Nation, and This Week. It was usually three or four lefties against one "moderate" rightie.
Oh I'm not denying that those channels you listed don't have a leftist slant and that it's not very ethical, but the same goes for Fox New's rightwing slant. maybe I do have an ax to grind for preferring the news to be reported from an unbiased angle, I should be happy with unreliable reporting, so long as it's unreliable in both directions?
CNN was the first 24-hour news channel, Fox News says it has news from 9 to 4 and opinion/talk from 6 to 8. Kinda weird they only have their news during most people's work hours.
I'm with jhermespan, if they didn't have "News" in the title and basically reported the news just like a news channel I don't think it would bother me at all.I'm wondering how are the viewers even supposed to know it's an entertainment and opinion network if they report news and are called Fox News?
+blue222blue The problem with Fox News is the use of News in the title. This was even discussed when I was in Journalism school in the late 90's. This suggests to the viewer that the whole ball of wax be taken as news, despite the claims to the contrary, hence the title. They know full well that most of their viewers take them at their word. If it were CNN News and MSNBC News the assumption would be the same, see the difference. You can defend the slight of hand all you want, but more Americans every day are becoming wise to Fox News trickery. Believe what you want, but don't ask the rest of us to suspend belief to fit your worldview.
+blue222blue more like Why did they only sample high schoolers in Vermont and depict a relatively small and technically unable to participate demographic? Were there not enough adults in the town, or was it because younger people tend to have more progressive views, which slants the story in their favor?
+Politucus trollThe Fox News news shows scrupulously present different sides of the issues. The opinion shows also regularly feature opposing views. You wouldn't like them.
+blue222blue If you can name me a Fox News or otherwise conservative equivilent of the fact based, well researched, hard hitting Rachel Maddow Show (in my opinion the only show worth watching on Cable), I will eat my shoes.
+Jeff GrimshawYou're claiming that the O'Reilly factor is a hard news reporting show not an opinion show? Why is it that so many people can't just admit when they are wrong?
+blue222blue Wrong again, Blue. When news breaks during O'Reilly he moves right (and comfortably) into the anchor's desk role. See Ferguson riots. Please look before you type - you'll come off a lot smarter that way.
+blue222blue Sorry, but how does a piece about the liberal values of people in a certain town constitute as either an "entertainment" or "opinion" piece? Isn't it a political news network, not a morning talk show? Also, why would you include "opinion" when the whole piece is about how it's a news channel and should be giving facts and not opinions and entertainment? Also, wouldn't that imply that they consider the people who live in Bennington are "entertaining" somehow? What's so funny about them? Or is that also a matter of opinion.Your comment just basically confirms that the piece was deliberately meant to have a spin on it and to make fun of the town without researching any facts, which is exactly what the students are accusing Fox of doing.
+blue222blue Best of luck living in your gray standards where you can change them to meet your conclusions. BTW - That's called "inductive reasoning" and is the cornerstone of propaganda.
+blue222blue Sorry, you're wrong. O'Reilly now cites Watters as his main source of having his ear to the ground with respect to understanding young voters. He has boasted that he and Watters know, while guests like Karl Rove don't. So you and O'Reilly can't say on one hand that Watters' work is mindless buffoonery and then on the other hand use it to craft Presidential Election strategy for 2016.
Between everybody huckin monster cliffs at The Grotto on Saturday & Trampoline cliff jumping action at Dorset Quarry on Sunday, i think its safe to say this was ...
best times of my life were as a young teen in growing up in Brandon, was
just telling someone about the quarries up there so I did a search, now I'm
all sad and nostalgic.
+Cliff Life Yea, it's remarkable how deep you can see.We used to hike up to Silver Lake near Branbury state park and there's a small cliff, called the cascades.you can drink the water you swim in.....or used to.The waterfall eroded a little pool you can sit in like a cold jacuzzi :)I'm not sure which quarry this is, there are a lot in Vt.Leicester Quarry is renown for skinnydipping.....Oh, and you need to be careful in some of them...you know how the cliffs have lines running down them from the steel drills? There was 1 we used to go to that had 1 of the steel drills in it, if you didn't know it was there.........impalement.
Vermont Summers arent matched by much! Ive seen the quarry there but havent been to it yet. Its definitely up there for the cleanest, clearest most amazing looking water ive ever seen in a quarry!
