bought this laptop with the intention of it being a dedicated vintage laptop, and i think it'll do the job pretty well. i just wish it had a floppy drive built-in, but that's ...
When I woke up today, a pre-2003 ThinkPad was sitting on top of my acer
aspire, and I thought it was my A20p. But it wasn't... It was a T23! My dad
suprised me with this and found it in the trash of all places, and he
wanted me to crack the password on it. It turned out there was no password
so I'm keeping it for sentimental value. Before my dad found it, the last
time it was powered on was January 4, 2007. That's probably why it's in
perfect condition.
I never THOUGHT you would get this. I have an IBM ThinkPad R40,
manufactured in November 2004, shortly before the R41 was released. My
grandma held on to the R40 from 2011 to last week and I just got it back in
exchange for an Gateway NV Series. An IBM ThinkPad T23 is basically an
equivalent to a Dell Latitude D500. I once had a D520 and knew I would get
my good old R40 back.
It's not *the* Device Manager, per se, but you can go into the NT4 Control
Panel and bring up the "Devices" option to see a list of all the hardware
installed on the machine. I don't really remember how conclusive it is
since I haven't played with NT4 on a physical machine in years, but it
seemed to work well when I was playing with it in VMware not too long ago.
In your opinion, do you think reallocated sectors are something to worry
about? I have a 500GB Western Digital that has 41 reallocated sectors, and
I zeroed out the drive and it seems to be okay besides S.M.A.R.T whining
about it. Not really using it for anything mission critical, either.
yeah 380Z was the last model, has faster processer , Had a resolution of
1080x 756 while 380xd is 800 x600 is slower.integration of higher-quality
speakers with the addition of an internal sub-woofer, and its own port
replicator that would only work with the 380Z.
14:37 There are multiple panels in Control Panel for managing hardware
devices. There is also an AUTO LOGON REGISTRY HACK that logs you on
automatically, is enabled by default in NT4 Embedded, and when you log off
it logs you back on straight away.
PASSPORT.MID actually goes all the way back to Windows 3.0 with Multimedia
Extensions. It was written by George Stone of Passport Designs, the same
guy who wrote "Trip Through the Grand Canyon" (CANYON.MID).
IBM is not the only issuer. Lenovo issues the newer ThinkPads since that's
who IBM sold their PC division to, and that is what i was referring to when
i say variant; IBM version vs Lenovo version.
This is very identical to my T21, just a bit newer. I still need to
reformat my T21 because at some point Windows XP derped itself.... Anyway,
this should do exactly what you want to do with it.
Been a while dude, last I watched you on YT, you were putting out a steady
stream of macintosh videos. :) Would love to do a video on my Thinkpad 380D
but the motherboard is beyond deceased. :(
I just found one, sitting outside, in the rain, with the power cord! I'm
drying it out for a few days to see if it works! Nice to find a video on
here to see what I may, or may not have.
if the count goes up anymore, be worried. I have a 500GB Seagate ES.2 with
200 reallocated sectors. I'm not worried though; they haven't budged in the
year I've used it for P2P file storage.
Again, thank you for selling this fine machine. Great to finally own a
ThinkPad! I'm also writing this comment from this ThinkPad T23 running
Windows 98! Great video as always! :-)
i hate nt cause of the 4gb limitation of the hard drive size partition. i
like to be able to use the whole hard drive rather then a partitioned hard
drive
IBM Thinkpad T23 Hard Drive Removal
This video demonstrates how to remove the hard drive from an IBM ThinkPad T23. Brought to you by MyHardDriveCrashed.com.
I enjoyed the video on removing the hard drive for a T23 I have a X24 is it
the same type of hard drive ........does it have ratchet type teeth or a
clean edge liz
For old DOS games I use DOS box and games bought of Steam or GOG. Modern
computers are the way to go to play most older computer games so i agree
with you. Would be cool to see Warcraft 1 & 2 put up for download. I would
love to play those games again. Playing these classic computer games really
take you back to the 90's for sure.
Epic Pinball isn't using MIDI... it is using digitized samples to create
the music, the same way that an Amiga .MOD file works. The Crystal sound
chip should have Sound Blaster Pro compatibility. Try setting the BLASTER
enivornment variable as if it was an SB Pro: SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4
can you help me ! IBMThinkPadR51 how to translate japanese to english
because my IMB Thinkpad is Japanese made and i dont understand to translate
to setting english ! please help me BMThinkPadR51 ! As soon as posible ! :D
good day
I lol'd at the Clippy rant. I hated that God-forsaken paper clip! Good
thing Microsoft nixed him in later versions. I'm sure that elimination
alone probably caused Office 2003 sales to go through the roof. lol
epic pinball is probably choppy because its running under windows 98, it
was designed to run on DOS. However it runs fine under Windows 95 on my
300MHz AMD K6 Socket 7 machine.
I have a Dell laptop from the same time [ a custom built monster of a
laptop] its not that big [15'6 screen] , it ha a 3.1 GHZ processor and 3GB
ram. Its a has a 40gb hard drive, that would of been a huge drive at the
time. it still works today, but i am not running the original windows 98 on
it, i am running windows 7 ,and it runs well. Its original price as much as
i can find out was between £3000- £4000 , the highest spec at the time, and
for a laptop! weight... :5.6KG!!!!
Cool stuff there. I have a TP 600e (A Pentium II 200 MHz) but its hard
drive went out fairly recently and I haven't been able to use it since. Not
that it really matters because I hate that machine anyway. 1.3 GHz Pentium
III? Holy crap...that IS a gaming computer. I want to find one a desktop
version of those sometime...
Welcome to the club buddy its about time. My first Think Pad was the t40
and it served me very well in college. I personally believe there are no
present day laptops that could compare to the reliability, durability and
Model M feel keyboard of the late IBM Think Pads
I once saw an IBM ThinkPad at my local resale shop for relatively cheap...
but I didn't buy it because A) it didn't come with the AC adapter, and B) I
couldn't find the power switch/button/whatever. I am kicking myself right
now for that.
seems like a good laptop! wish i could have one of these, but back here in
scandinavia these things are such a rare find! i myself was using a pentium
II, all the way up until march of 2010! i think mine was a 500 mhz machine.
:O I have that same thinkpad. When I took that thing apart it blew my mind
as to how complicated it was. I'm used to working on Dell Latitude C series
laptops which is the only thing I really like from Dell.
I had a MaxDATA Pro 650X with a 700MHz Pentium 3 and a DVD-ROM. It was made
for windows 98. Too bad that the DVD drive broke and the laptop itself fell
apart because of the briddle (sp?) plastic XP
Nice looking laptop there, for something portable it sure does the job
well. You know, I'm too little too late to say this, but... it turns out
the claims about Living Books being taken down were bogus. Scholastic
apparently never owned the games at any point in time -- what you actually
have to worry about is if the companies who own the licenses are willing to
take them down (the Dr. Seuss games are the only ones affected so far). If
you really want to play it safe...(next)

...The Tortoise and the Hare will definitely not be taken down for sure,
since that story is in the public domain. I've wondered if those chickens
substitute their...junk...for eggs. OH GOSH THE NIGHTMARES Yeah, I never
liked the Jungle that much either. It probably didn't help I played it
maybe once or twice as a kid though (my neighbors had it and I literally
could only find ONE COMPUTER in their house that could read their beaten up
disc!)
It's the equivalent to a Latitude C610. I actually owned both the T23 (2 of
them from 2010-2012) and a C610. My dad used the T23 as a basic web surfer
main laptop and I used the C610 for everything and my only issues were
build quality issues.
I would recommend that you would leave Windows 98 on there and not install
Windows 2000; you can get more disk space for other games or software that
you might want to put on it in the future (if you ever do). Just saying...
Guys! You watch youtube videos and do something in Adobe Flash if you
download the browser Opera 10.63 and Flash Player 9! I have tried K-Meleon,
but it's obsolete compared to Opera.
I have decided to do just that. This is strictly for gaming and Windows
2000, even though it's a great OS, Windows 98 is just a better choice when
it comes to games.
yep had that model in 2005 bought it used off a former boss. used it in
tech runs for quick info and invoices lasted a a couple good years with
constant usage.
In that case, my next vintage computer video will include the first game
ever to be bought for my Legend 822CDT back in 1995; Just Grandma & Me!!!!
:-D
This is more of a port replicator than a true docking station. If you have
a lot of external devices connected, this allows you to quickly remove the
laptop without needing to unplug all the cables one-by-one, and then return
it to the base without plugging them all back in again. It's mainly for
people who use the laptop both as their main desktop computer and on-the-go.
Have you ever considered making a pfsense router? i think that that would
be a cool video. Loving the vidoes so far, i discovered you through
maxxarcades videos, but i havnt seen any from him in a while. Thanks for
sharing!
I have one of those for my D series Latitudes. Nobody wants them so they're
everywhere and available for next to nothing. The fan in my X61s sounds
kinda dodgy too. ThinkPad fans are just kinda rubbish.
