5 FASTEST BIRDS on the planet! (Including the fastest bird in level flight and fastest bird dive ever recorded!) The WHITE-THROATED NEEDLETAIL has a ...
+Amazing Planet The falcon's unique abilities are amazing for sure, I just don't think it qualifies for fastest bird. If these birds were to race after prey the falcon would be left in the dust. photos or footage of the white throated needletail? Um.. well there's one in your video? and google??? ?????????
+PurpleFirefly Sure, got any photos or footage of the white throated needle tail (I certainly could find any). And I disagree anyway with your perspective on the falcon's unique abilities. Thanks for watching though.
+Amazing Planet The peregrine falcon only reaches that speed when it's diving. While its diving speed is incredible, its flying speed isn't as remarkable. In my opinion diving speeds don't count for the "fastest bird". It should be based on how much distance they can cover in how much time, not how fast they can fall out of the sky. The white throated needle tail kicks peregrine ass with 169km/h horizontal speed versus 112km/h.

Billions of years of random evolution lead to this. Billions. You can't even comprehend that kind of timescale, so who are you to presume that this would need "intelligent design" to come about?
+TEXAStooTAL L Yes, because airplanes fly much faster and the aerodynamic challenges that engineers must overcome are far greater than those at the speed of a falcon.
Swifts are faster in terms of self powered flight, but falcons are faster in terms of raw speed, it has a specific aerodynamic structure that allows it to fly at 200mph, humans can only fall 120mph at the same height.
+Dee H. I used the same data because what Benjamin Filbert was referring to was using gravity to assist in acceleration of speed while the swift does not. Even thought he swift 'shows off' their speed for courtship displays, they don't use gravity to assist because their fast speed is recorded even when climbing in altitude.
The Heningsson study 2010, which suggests speeds of 69 mph for swifts, referred to courtship displays. These displays ,like the falcon's stoop, have elements of acceleration aided by gravity. So if a falcon's level flight speed (40 -45 mph) is to be considered, then the swift's level flight speed (22 -24 mph) must also be used in comparison. What is your evaluation of the relevant data?
Bit exaggerated narration to increase viewing pleasure. Facts here
- It's not occasionally pigeon escapes from method #1, Most of the time
pigeon escapes.
- No it's not tough to dodge such vertical attack. Vertical attack has just
less than 20% chance of success. Mostly pigeon escapes.
