Sculpting a rocky surface
ZBrush Tutorial | Sculpting a rocky surface. Sculpting a rocky surface with ZSpheres and the Planar brush.
Hey, I have a problem with your method, I've seen your video countless
times and I've copied it step by step every time, BUT my planer brush
doesn't work like yours at all. It doesn't let me click anywhere on the
mesh, but a particular place that it likes. If it lets me sculpt on the
side of the stone then it wont let me sculpt anywhere else. If I increase
my brush size to 1000, it makes sculpts small areas as big as a penny and
thats the best I can get it to do. Can you help me please ? :)
If it's a massive cliff face, yes. Making a few different variations so
that you can stack them to make massive rock faces like the ones in Skyrim,
that way you can duplicate 4 or 5 variations in UDK or CryEngine.
Duplications of a mesh take up like 0.01% memory compared to the original.
Lots of ways to do it.
Thanks for the tutorial, I have a noob question but I just can't find the
answer... in the noise graph you made sharp angles in the graph but I can
only get a smooth curve which doesn't make the same effect. How do you make
the angles sharp when you add a new point in the graph?
I have the same issue as a lot of others - my planar brush isn't working at
all. I thought maybe it could be the high poly count I got when I made
polymesh 3d so I used decimation master to cut my polys down to 20% and it
made no difference at all. Whats the deal?
I have simple question. I made rocks in Zbrush and now I want to convert it
to low poly. I know how to do this, but i don't know how many tris low-poly
model can have? I saw some game-art's where rock models have about 2k tris.
This is good for UDK or CryEngine?
Additional hint: If you want to have some moss or other dirt to show onto
your rock, you can choose colors in the surface noise option to give some
nice colored spots onto your model.
it could be that you're at a high poly count or it could be that your brush
doesn't have enough strength which you can change in the same place where
you change the size.
Looks fine but feels more like damaged concrete rather than rocky surface.
Very useful when creating wall debris. Thanks for posting this. Nice
tutorial!
