What if you want to make music like Daft Punk. I don't know if their
considered DJS but yeah. Im thinking Microkorg, Kaosspad, anddd a program
on the computer but what els?
@NotYourAverageHero Daft Punk are Electronic Music Producers all you need
for that is a music production software like FL Studio, Ableton, Logic Pro,
And such :)
@ThisNameIsAFail thanks man :D im saving up for Logic pro. lately ive been
practicing DJing with Dj programs nd I got that part but i gonna make my
own beats :)
This is a video aimed at the beginner. The world of DJ gear can appear quite daunting to a beginner so in this video I explain the different pieces of equipment ...
Question: I am just starting djing..I'm 15. I've been doing lights and
sound at a local theatre for 3 years now and have most technical knowledge
down...one thing I do not is power consumption. I just recently bought the
Chauvet SF-9005 "dumb light" controller. I have 4 1000w par 64s that I
usually used for a chasing wash light...the controller is rated 575w per
channel I think...this is in the u.s. where we use 110-120v. Just wondering
if I could overload 4 channels and not use the other 4
i agree the sound system is the most important part , cos you can buy a
couple off lights and stick them on the table next to your decks and your
first few gigs will pay for good lights
The Capsule is a great piece of kit for a 19" mixer (or controller that
fits) and lighting controls. I had a Hercules DMX with rack ears, sc8
switchpack and a laptop stand on one before I upgraded my kit. It held up
well getting tossed around a little but the weight of the controller did
make me a little nervous as the screws self-tap in to plastic (no metal
rail) and the padded cover provides minimal protection. I was very happy
with it though and I couldn't have made an adequate case for less.
Ha Mike, This was my suggestion maybe you should get into Dj case's , This
type of case was put out by Gator and later copy's follow, but Its great
you would give it a try , But these are great for one thing , being light
but on the other hand They don't protect your Dj device es from transport.
I not really putting it down , there great for rack light switches if you
need all that , but I hope you did not buy many of them sell, but what do I
know.. ?? anyway.. like your video
I have noticed more sound materials in the background of your videos. Are
you getting different varieties of sound equipment? BTW my guess today is
190

I actually said Vinyl is dying, not that it is dead, I didn't say that it
was not pressed anymore, the volume has decreased and so has the interest
in it. Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash started DJing when vinyl was the
only format available, and they have become so accustom to that format so
they won't leave it. BUT for new DJs, the answer is to use what will be
most benficial to themselves not other DJs, CDs are the way foward whether
u like it or not, a good DJ can use ALL formats available.
Yet another useless and out of date response. I used to use Vinyl records
b4 2005, playin in commercial venues, I needed access to music faster & a
wide range of genres, vinyls are no good in these circumstances. Dont even
attempt to lecture me on being a DJ, Ive been there and got t-shirt,
judging from your responses u dont have any idea of what it is really like.
But by advise stands to anyone interested in being a DJ, use CDs and think
of your equipment as an investment for the future.
@GAGFEST2000 If you DEADMAU5, or what is on the radio, then re-think your
passion & dedication to becoming a DJ. What is on the radio, (i.e.
electronic music in relation to DEADMAU5 or LMFAO) is just a mainstream,
corporate, close minded view on the art of DJ'ing. those artists are making
and mixing music with the intention of creating a generic form of sound
that will please as many people as possible, and make as much money as
possible, getting them as popular as possible.
@GAGFEST2000 (part 2) Thats not what being a DJ is about really. Its about
creating and mixing sound into a creation of your own. Something unique to
your expressions. And If your serious about DJ'ing, I strongly suggest you
research into some of the true roots; the underground scene of electronic
bass music. These artists are what should be credited with the fame and
fortune... without their creativity and dedication, the bass music scene we
know today would not be existant.
Why are people even talking about such equipment on this videos comments,
the actually point of the video, is discussing the first steps to being a
bedroom DJ, so to be honest talking about 1210's and CDJ1000s is a bit
stupid. CDs are not inferior to vinyl records at all! If that was the case
why are labels pressing fewer and fewer records? Vinyl records are dying,
and no matter what you say they will eventually be phased out. I think you
should join the 21st century.
Your uploads are pretty cool, thanks for posting them! :) I just picked up
a Numark Mixtrack with Traktor LE Software. I'm going to pick up some
computer speakers , headphones and then an external sound card so I can cue
the music. I dont think that this a bad setup for a beginner and someone
that just wants to DJ at local parties or something. There's these two nobs
on my controller..."Cue Gain" and "cue mix" can anyone tell me how they
work?
I cant believe you are still harping on with your nonsense. I was
questioning why people were discussing EXPENSIVE / TOP OF THE RANGE
equipment. This video is for people thinking of becoming DJs and not
breaking the bank. Vinyls = About £7, (and they are been phased out)
digital formats from 79p, theres no contest! Your arguement is flawed,
ignorant of facts and pointless, dont bother wasting any more of my time or
your own. BYE!
alright. Im 13 too n my dad owns a event company. I would say this video
isn't that basic, although the setup is really bad. If you have an ipod or
small cd player connect it DIRECTLY to a power amplifier, which can be
picked up online for a couple hundred. Then use a BANANNA cable to connect
from amp to speakers. One side will be 1/4 inch, the other will have 2
prongs, one will be red, one black. Be carefu dont get them mixed up!
I've Started with 2 TT, BCD2000 mixer and a notebook. PC Djing is noch good
for practice (but for enyoing) because there are too many helps in the
program. Even in the worst one you can get. So i can learn djing with the
TT and having fun with the notebook. (at) Jonathan: I realy like watching
your vids, they are a great help. Without them i've had never spend a
thought about DJing. keep on man. Sorry for my bad english.
I never mentioned anything to do with high end equipment, I think you
should try reading peoples comments properly. If vinyl turntables are so
popular can you explain why Luminar Leisure (biggest nightclub owner in the
UK) are ripping turntables out of their clubs left right and centre. So you
join you little group, you'll find you are the only one in it sooner or
later....thats what I call end of. In a bit
i mix drum n bass, and vinyl is not dying at all. i can see what u
mean...but to mix drum and bass the only format for me is vinyl. cd are
piss to use...u have a beat match button...there is no skill involved at
all...vinyl is true skill and i respect anyone who is on vinyl. by the way
do not get numark tt1610 for mixing, u want to get direct drives. the
numark battlepack is fine for mixing.
Yea, but you need a computer interface module. The best, IMO is the Rane
Serato Scratch Live. It connects your set up to your computer, gives you
the ability to mix MP3s and also provides you with LOTS more effects and
such. It isnt cheap though, itll run you around $500. There are cheaper
ways, but the cheaper you do it, the crappier it will be and will be
detrimental to your learning.
dude dont use speakon. Very cheap setup. get the bose 802 series for $2800,
its a great deal. Plus you didnt mention anything aabout subwoofers, which
completely adds the need for a crossover, which adds the need for more
cables. Bananna cables which you would need 3 of r like 20 bucks for 25
feet. Im lucky cus i already have this stuff so i dont need to go out n buy
anyting.
hey J im kinda new to dj stuff but if i buy a behringer eurolive b212d PA
and a pioneer dj controller do i need another mixer or can i just plug in
the PA`s inte the inbuilt mixer from the controller? and im also wondering
if i dont have the controller and dont have a mixer can I still play music
whith my PA`s connected to an ipod or another source? please need answer :)
My DJ mates say that the age of CDs is slowly out. So using software with a
controller makes sense. It might be also easier to buy directly
downloadable tunes from online shops than to order a physical copy (on CD
or vinyl) and just hope and see if it arrives or not... It's not about what
you use, it's all about how you use it!
can you connect another brand of mixer and cd player to the software
(pioneer), (stanton cd player and behringer 4 line mixer). and about the
KAM turntables, i've noticed they're cheaper than other turntables (there's
a KAM pack with 2 turntables and a mixer) so do you advice me to buy KAM?
Is it good quality? thx in advance
Someone made a comment about going towards the software, and I think a DJ
can play music straight off a hard drive on the CDJ, but I don't approve of
software synching beats, unless you have like 4 channels going, then you
prolly need the help. I'll just say no picture you see in an art gallery
was made in photoshop :)
Not really. A usable DJ set up is going to cost some money. The more money
you spend, the better the equipment will be, and the more you'll learn. If
you go cheap, youll get a belt driven plastic hunk of junk and youll spend
more time and money just trying to make it sound good instead of DJing.
I dont recommend the TOTAL CONTROL. It bugs after a certain time (i started
to be a dj with that) and its not really DJing because u cant beatmatch
with the jog wheel (its not precise enough). If ur looking for midi = uc 33
or alen and heath To start, the OMNI CONTROL from NUMARK is good too..
Although I don't really like deadmau5 much, I have to disagree with you
saying that he's "corporate" or "mainstream". He started like tons of other
producers making beats in his bedroom, and it took plenty of time before he
was noticed. I gotta give him credit where it's due.
i have a numark totalcontrolpc MIDIviaUSB mixer and use it with virtual dj.
wayyy better than burning 1000 cds and cheaper than cd units (obviously not
as good but they do the same job, but take up less room). i recommend this
for any bedroom dj with not much space
i'm thinking of taking it up as a hobby, but i know pretty much nothing
about DJing, so i been lookin on the net for info and stuff and i saw the
USB controllers. Are they any good? cos i only really got mp3's and the
whole vinal set up looks too expensive
its all about understanding genres , and being creative with not
necessarily the same styles but building jigsaws with what vinyl you have
amassed , linking similar tracks and making it sound interesting, I prefer
to keep my styles together tho.
also, can you listen to a deck that's not playing? i've only used an icue,
and with that, there's a PFL button for listening to deck 2 well deck 1 is
playing (for beatmatching) can you do that with a setup of vinyl turntables
and a basic mixer?
Thanks, that's what i thought on the first place. I was a bit confused by
friends urging me buying vinyl turntables, since CDJ can provide a lot of
better functions and easy access. Any recommendations on CDJ? any reviews
on PIONEER CDJ1000MK3?
Wow... This is exactly what I was looking for :D I still don't know if I
should just mix music or be a little more like Deadmau5 and make my own...
Or am I wrong? I don't know anything about any other DJs rather than the
ones on the radio!
Is there anyway i can plug my mixer into my home theater unit? My one
doesn't have a 3.5mm music port, but does (obviously) have the RCA(I think
its rca?) red white and yellow inputs, as used for most tv inputs ps2, xbox
etc. Cheers!
what is the most basic and affordable set up that i can find, i don't need
a super fancy equipment to play in a club, because im 13... but i would
like to learn a few BASICS for dj's, gimme sugestions the most basic and
affordable
i really just started getting into dj'ing is it a bad thing that my
turntables dont even match? lol and do i have to use my computer, because
my turntables dont have a usb port and my pc isnt here please respond thank
you
@vthvueo yep i agree I was desperately searching for a nice software to
compose killer beats. But the software which are used to make killer trance
is been public now. get the best one here -> bit.ly/Oms3DR?=xaovld
true words... i mix Techno , Minimal and I just started to mix DnB (
