Good Video but you forgot to mention that the O/S/R and N/S/R pistons are
left and right hand threads respectively. they are not both the same
thread.
there was no need to remove the hand brake cable to do that job but still
good video. :)
Thanks for making this video! It came it very helpful! I have changed out
pads and rotors on three or four cars before but on the X-type I got stuck
not being able to compress the piston on the caliper. Didn't know you had
to rotate the piston!!!!! Also Advanced Auto gave me the wrong pads for my
2005 X-type 3.0 because there are two styles that depend on the VIN #.
I've got a 2003 x-type 2.0 litre petrol and want to buy the rear pads
online - is there are variation in the brake pads across any of these
models that I should be aware of? I'm not techie enough to take the parts
out and have a look but any tips from you will help. Thanks.
+AssassinX58 I would say don't buy online go to a shop that way if there is a problem you have not far to go. problems with wrong brake parts are common so use a car spares or motor factors.
You forgot to mention the two bolts holding the carrier are different
lengths and must go in the right hole, can't remember which one is longer
but it's about 1-2mm longer and will bottom out in the blind hole ,which
causes the caliper to rattle
+Brian8d Thanks for that, I always lay out the bolts etc on a board so that nothing like that happens on re-assembly, but I hadn't noticed the difference.
Hi, just to help anyone doing this job - there is a much easier way to
release the handbrake cable from the self adjusting mechanism than using a
pair of grips. there is a nut on the back of the mechanism, lean over the
caliper and put a 13mm ring spanner on it, you can now use the spanner to
lever the mechanism and slip the cable free. Using grips is a lot more
difficult as they are prone to slip off the mechanism and require a lot of
pressure. I hope this helps. Thanks.
Did this today, great video, really quite easy to do following your
instructions, saved me a a couple of hundred quid. thanks! Might try the
back next.
Before anyone uploads a "How to..." video they should be made to watch one
of your videos to see the way it should be done. This is an excellent job,
thank you so much.
Just did the front pads and rotors watching this on my Samsung Smartphone.
This was the first time I've ever done brakes in a car. The instructions
were perfect. Just taking your time and having the right tools makes all
the difference. And of course your help. Thanks for this wonderfully easy
to follow video.
