Normally, I like Reasons videos but this is just stupid. Those lightweight cars are made out of compressed carbon fiber, its 1/3 the weight of regular steel and twice as strong. Also, even china has a higher fuel efficiency standard than the US, so we cant even sell our cars there. Fuel efficiency is really about efficiency in design Those fuel efficient cars will be the future with or without the regulations. Theyre essentially a minimum wage set below equilibrium, no reason for scare tactics

Sorry, perhaps I misread. However I think this, like the 128 days later are meant to have some truth but to be seen as fear mongering. As in an easily recognizable mockery of what Obama's administration does as well as Bush, and Clinton before them. As well as most every other Presidential Administration. I cannot be sure of that but assume it to be true. Being born in '84 and spending more time looking to the future, I am unsure of how much fear mongering there was in past administrations.

And the statistics are pretty widely available about the increase in fatality of car accidents when CAFE standards were first introduced. The new emission standards are capitalistic in nature not environmental . Production of a new "green" vehicle (lets say a prius for example) creates ten times the emissions than a old 60's muscle car (that gets 5mpg running without cats) would produce in a lifetime of use. The goal of the new standards is to encourage sells of new vehicles, wile discouraging the restoration or maintenance of older vehicle's. Hell the lobbying for the new standard was openly funded by the automotive industry.

One of the contributing factors of higher fuel consumption is higher gearing in these moderns cars. Higher RPMS translate into higher fuel consumption and the higher CAFE standards IS NOT INCLUDING the barage of overgrown, overweight, oversized SUV's from the late 1990's to the present.....
