You are correct. And my opinion of Vandalik buttons are good, but I hear that they don't hold up very well, because they have a cheap, plastic base.

+22408aaron Northern is owned by Thyssen.  It was Northern that bought US.  They continued selling a revised version of the US Elevator product until 2000.  Also Northern and Mowrey are the only companies using Vandalik buttons (similar to EPCO SSL but larger).

Northern actually isn't the greatest company. I hear they give a lot of problems, and I don't think WMATA ever used Northern, only US, Thyssen and KONE. They may, I can't confirm that though. I can ask around, I know some people that know every nook and cranny of Metro.

+22408aaron Agreed!  To me the smell is more like the worst days of the ER.  I often have to hold my nose when getting in metro elevators.As far as manufacturers go, Northern is the best elevator company ever.  And this is no opinion!  It's the only brand of elevator I've never been stuck in and never had issues with.  I'm glad metro has em.  I wish they would start using them again.  Northern was started in 1994 by ThyssenKrupp who bought US shortly after.  In 2004, I got to ride the last elevators Northern ever made that bear the name US Elevator in Durham NC, installed in late 1999.  Northern them finally ended the US Elevator branding.

You sure know your WMATA elevators. Those buttons that look like Monitor I believe are actually Innovation but they could be Monitor. Every elevator i've been on with those fixtures for some reason always smells like piss. KONE's mods (other than Rosslyn) are pretty damn good.

Those buttons are Dewhurst. They are very common in Canada and England. The reason why I like Dewhurst so much is because it is very rare in America. I do like Dewhurst a lot.
