+RavensNewLife I think that is ultimately how you know they were a narc. You find out that they really didn't know who you were. I've had that happen to me. Suddenly someone divulges that after all these years they hadn't been taking in any information about me at all. They'd latched onto one or two very rudimentary facts, which had to do with a small fraction of the mere externals of my personality and they had used that as a formular to "handle" me, whilst fleshing out the rest of my identity as if I had been a previous girlfriend, or, in part, their mother.

+RavensNewLife Yep, it's a creepy mother thing. That's why I nicknamed mine "Norman". : ( 

Yeah, I remember him telling the counselor, "if dinner isn't ready by 5:30 there is hell to pay with her and she screams and yells." I remember telling the counselor, "that's not me. That's his mother." He had been making me into his mother for nearly 16 years. I was floored and felt betrayed.

+EcceSignumRex I have found that narcissists who are intellectuals often fake it by going to the end of the book and taking what they assume to be the conclusion from there, and then making the whole book seem to be about nothing more than what was written at the last few lines, at the end. Either that, or they search for a single phrase buried in the text which they take to be the Key to the whole text. They do not engage in holistic reading patterns. Perhaps they cannot do so, as their minds do not think in terms of the whole. Or perhaps they are just lazy.

+ssa3636- re: weights... Yeah, i get after it.. (ha!) -  I've known lots of people that HAVE taken drugs and still can't get results like i've gotten .. but, this isn't a body-building page - so..  I just bring it up in the sense of subculture narcs. - weight training being a subculture - - people convince themselves of things without ever testing or thinking about them (your sister, my parents).  Other people's stupidity .... isn't my responsibility...- - -You're right - it's 'turf' to them.  Like you can't pick up a wrench to turn a bolt unless you do it in a way that 'pleases' the guru. -"No!  Pick it up with your right hand, THEN transfer it to your left hand. ... If you're not going to turn it without grunting WHY are you even here?!?"ha.........-My brain ... always processed that behavior as information ... not necessarily narcissism.  Where a narc. would laugh if you did what they asked of you ... not thinking it COULD be a plausible alt. way of doing things.  I never understood why they couldn't see that their 'traps' aren't always traps.... (shrugs).  I would end up frustrating a great many people that i now know are on the narc. spectrum with my analysis/questions of their behavior...

And, i'd point out that you were doing the correct thing by walking at a moderate pace on a flat surface ... that's all the 'cardio' you need...(from an exercise science point of view) ... from a: I just want to get out and exercise point of view .. I didn't think you could do that wrong... (ha)... shows what you and i know...-I was yelled at for the opposite reason - my parents (bio.ma, step.dad) are overweight and never played athletics - - but, that didn't stop them from telling me I was doing everything WRONG .... UNTIL i started to get results, then i was on drugs.-As 'NF' pointed out to me: "You should know that with a narc. you're never right .... even when you're right."

+ssa3636- (ha) - - I've been a 'gym rat' since I was 14, there are people like myself that see it as part of being healthy, and a good way to push yourself ... then, there are people that won't stfu about it...(ha)... I have to work out late at night, because I can't stand being around your average 'gym d.bag' that shows up during normal hours.-No - you can't joke around with a 'narc' - - and, the catch is... they constantly insult you, then if you FINALLY get offended: "Gee ... settle down, i was just kidding when i said your wife was cheating on you...."-Yes.  You hit on another thing .. they are incredibly boring.  I think it comes from the complete lack of self-analysis skill..

+ssa3636- I made the mistake of thinking there was a person BEHIND the 'antics' - - I'd say things.... CLEVER things.... (ha) ... thinking: "Well, i enjoy working hard - they constantly tell me how hard they work ... they'll get the joke, right?"-No ... they didn't get the joke... just MORE accusations/psycho-stare/dagger eyes ... etc.-Good for you with the NC!

+ssa3636 - I'd say: "It's not my fault i can get done in 40 hours, what takes you 45.5 hours....":)

+Narcissist Free - My Mother never worked, so I couldn't really pick the pattern up from her... step dad would stomp around screaming all day long on the farm.... then, would read the paper, put his feet up, and blast the TV so loud I could hear it in my room up stairs.  When he felt he had accomplished his daily task of ''project'' ...-A boss of mine, that turned out to be a very disturbed person...  I knew a niece of hers...  She (the niece) lived with my boss for about 2 months - then, insisted on moving out.  The niece told me: "She's completely fake - she presents herself as a victim/hero - - but, she knows nothing, and does nothing.  She sits on her ass and eats potato chips while she's at home .."

+EcceSignumRex You are absolutely correct. Also, unless my narc had an "audience" actually watching him work, or  would come over immediately after the job was complete to see it - he would do NO MORE. Yep! p.s. After we were married I was no longer counted important enough to be a part of that audience.
