Using A Sanitaire SC899F To Pre-Vacuum A One Bedroom Apartment
This very dirty carpet needed a very thorough pre-vacuum to prepare it for carpet cleaning (show in another video). First we raked the carpet to remove any ...
+Nikayla Davis Not a bad smell, it smells like a Kirby, if you've ever been around that. The motor heats up and smells electrical, and the bag just smells like fabric. Sometimes you can smell the rubber on the bumpers. If you don't empty the bag it could smell if the contents gets ripe, but I always keep mine cleaned out so it smells fine.
+juankeny88lives So far the quality is excellent. I take it apart every job and clean out the fan chamber to check, and clean the nearing and belt guide areas of hairs. The belt spindle gets hair wrapped around it, but that is easy to clean. Hairs don't really wrap around the beater bar too much so that is a definite plus too. The shake out bag is easy to clean, I turn it inside out (very carefully) and vacuum it with a Dyson hose and soft brush, so it is staying white so far inside. So far no issues!
I like how you take the time to actually adjust the machine to the right
height. Most folks leave it on the lowest setting and stretch the belt.
And, they complain about the unit being hard to push.
Oh, yeah, you won't get every single thing out of the carpet; it doesn't matter what kind of machine you have. I understand about adjusting the machine a few times, too. I do the same thing. I raise the nozzle to the highest setting (on either my Royal or Kirby) and start the motor. Then, I lower until I hear the tone change. I only lower one more time if it is my newer Kirby because I use the Tech Drive on it; the additional click is necessary when using Tech Drive. I go over the same area three times: forward and back; forward and back; forward and back; then I move onto the next section of the rug. I have hard flooring all over my house but have area rugs in each room. They are all of different types and textures, so I have to adjust the machine a lot.
+Matt Jones Thanks Matt. Adjusting the height is a compromise sometimes between cleaning the carpet vs. wearing out belts. And then factoring the airflow which is hampered by lowering too far, and adjustment is not always easy. Particularly as most rooms seem to vary in thickness of carpet, so adjustments may need adjustment, as it were. I usually go with saving my vacuum belt, over getting the most dirt out, simply because the carpets are so nasty, you're not getting 100% on any setting, so why use up belts. I make overlapping passes from multiple angles to help make up the difference. At the end of the day, you could vacuum for hours and still pull dirt, so you have to be able to know when enough is enough. Some people post vacuum after cleaning to get more, so it never really ends.
OMG! Amazing! I love how the Sanitaire gives the carpet gorgeous carpet
lines. Do you only upload one video of prevacuuming on Tuesday? Also, do
the results be very little because the carpet isn't dirty or because the
setting isn't on a lower setting?
+Nikayla Davis I try to upload the lengthier vacuum videos on Tuesday, and the bonnet cleaning ones on Thursday. I put shorter videos up at random to shake things up a bit. The height setting, like on most vacuums, is a compromise. Too low and the belts wear out prematurely. Too high, and nothing gets picked up. With Sanitaires, the setting needs to be high enough to allow high airflow to the fan chamber, they run differently than the typical vacuum most are used to, you need to keep the front up a little. With typical vacuums you lower the head into the carpet, but on these type of vacuums you lose airflow if you bury the brush roll. Hope that helps, thanks Nikayla!

This was an incredibly informative video. Thanks a lot for posting it. This
is going to make keeping my interior clean a heck of a lot easier since I
won't need to use a 100' extension cord and lug my vacuum down two flights
of stairs.
Thanks! I actually used to use 200 ft of cord and 3 flights of stairs! Haha, don't think my neighbors appreciated that, but it worked until I bought the portable vac. Best decision ever when you're in an apartment. Portable vac + good brushes = Clean Interior!

Thanks for watching! We moved to a new house and still use this vacuum. It
works great. My cousin has the cheaper model and it does not work good on
pet hair as this one does. This thing is great. For a battery powered
vacuum, I am amazed at how good thing thing works. I haven't used my Dyson
vacuum in over a year now.
