Baby chick gets a belly rub and falls asleep
Kissing a flying-fox (bat)
Cinders kisses. Meet Cinders, an education bat. This bat approached me in the aviary to smell me, to rub noses with me and to get up close and personal.
Are their lil hook fingers strong? I always feel this wince in my gut
because I'm concerned of them getting them torn, or broken. They just seem
so fragile. ..
I really do hope their hooks are much stronger than they appear. ..
P.S. thank you for your work & I really enjoy the videos. If I ever have my
own home, I plan to plant specific foliage & flowers, & sturdy bat houses
in my yard.
+Nydawi Jai I enjoy the work and I am lucky to be able to do something I love doing. The hooks are very strong - we come off worst if they hook us. Sometimes the nails get degloved - the outer covering is ripped off the bone (ouch) and it takes months to heal. They can survive without a thumb so sometimes the thumb gets taken off just below the claw so the bat can get back out into the wild quickly and not spend months and months in care. It depends on the bat and their temperament. We had one young female who came in with no thumbs (birth deformity) and she managed really well. She had very short (1cm) nubs she used to move around. She was lactating - so she had a baby back in the colony. She was a very feisty girl - she probably had to be to survive.
The lady who is getting kisses.....i see her in alot of videos.....what's
her name? She's so lucky to be able to work with these amazing beautiful
critters!!!
Nice to talk with you, Meg.... I think u have an amazing job to work with bats n their babies! I bet ur home is very exciting during the baby season....and I'm sure alot of work! But the sense of accomplishment u must have when u have raised such beautiful critters....I envy you
+Jayne Mumaw My name's Meg. I'm a volunteer and I feel privileged to work with these amazing animals. I only have the babies in my home during baby season - the rest of the year I work in other people's aviaries and deliver fruit and help out where needed. This is in my friend Mandi's aviary. She prefers not to be in the videos most of the time but occasionally you will catch glimpses. I also work in an aviary in Nowra (that's about 2.5 hours south of where I live) so I have videos from there as well.
