NASA's Van Allen Probes Discover Third Radiation Belt Around Earth
In a briefing held Feb. 28, 2013 at the Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory, scientists detail the finding by NASA's Van Allen Probes of a ...
Notice the dialogue has a strong emphasis on the sun and its impact on the
earth's radiation field (Van Allen Belts) the main issue they do not
discuss is how does this radiation around our planet affect HUMAN
BEINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!! how does it KILL human beings what are its limitations
and more importantly how can a human being in an astronauts suit survive
this form of radiation?
This nominated panel talks about the weather they talk about the Sun they
talk about solar winds it seems they do a lot of talking.
I don't believe a word they tell us. You prefix means little. I have a DPhil but I choose not to use it. If you can't see the wood for the trees then it's abrogated.
+David Robson They DID NOT go through the VARBelts - check out the NASA engineer on the Orion Capsule project - he clearly says, several times, we must learn how to get through these rad belts so we can explore our solar system........................."It can pose a threat to ASTRONAUTS and all of the satellites that are there".says this lady on this vid....................DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH................cheers
+smood006well his question isn't innocent. either he's a complete moron or a big troll in which case he got me.if he's a moron he's very likely to have a bible in his colon.
do you think it might sound too simple or stupid to say, that these
radiation shrouds or " bands" have been there all the time and that the
reason they become very agitated or active immediately after a solar storm
of gama rays is in fact intercepting and trapping these radiation charges
that would otherwise be extremely damaging to the earth's design and her
people and all life as we know it? I know to all of the scientists out
there in YouTube land that this is much too simple to comment on so never
mind, just a simple thought!
+lovetoknit The radiation belts consist of protons and electrons, trapped in Earth's magnetic field. During solar storms, more of those charged particles are ejected from the sun and become trapped. Therefore, the belts become more "agitated".
+Bob Down Are you trying to "pull my leg"???We have no nuclear reactors in our rockets. The "Kiwi" and "Nerva" programmes were terminated in the 70's.Anti gravityy propulsion is impossible, becase every atom in the universe has its own gravity field. It's just Science Fiction. Our chemical fuels are quite capable to get humans to Moon and back.Buzz Aldrin didn't land the "Eagle". He asssisted Niel Armstrong in the process, and why would it have been so hard? NASA had successfully softlanded FIVE Surveyor robots on Moon, without any assistans of extensively trained pilots.I can't believe you are serious, if you REALLY had expected to see stars on the same photos as the properly exposured, brightly sunlit lunar surface. You talk about "scrutinisation". How about you try a little of it? And not at the silly hoax sites...
yes you are correct in saying so! which is why scrutinisation of the entire topic is required and all so to bear in mind limitations of withheld technology and information which is publicly denied. In others words we are told what the so called experts tell us.I accept this to a point and then I must look beyond what is at present available technology when we talk about probes and instruments of high to low earth altitude orbit capabilities I totally agree with you there utility and performance basicly they do as they are designed. Yet we currently still live and run our lives with fossil fuel technology and are expected to just wait until anti grav propulsion systems become openly discussed for at present as it stands we are basicly strapping astronauts to giant nuclear reactors and lighting them up and hoping for the best yes they work and yes they fail aswel hence the Explorer shuttle program look its just so variable in any clear cut demonstration in low earth orbit yet on the Moon the photos provided show no stars etc just so many anomalies and then there's Buzz Aldrin landing the lunar model MANUELY OMG!! just think about this as a variable for miscalculation and everybody dies yet 1969 technology landing guidance systems are top notch in 1969?? hmmmm considering there is more circuitry in my current Apple smart phone then there entire space program just look at the nano micro technology available today in wireless technology I mean srs wtf is going on.
+Bob Down Well, since several space organisations from different countries, involving thousands of scientists and aerospace engineers, have sent instruments out there and none of those have stated that humans can't travel to Moon, I don't understand your standpoint. After all, you only know about the conditions in space because of the scientists, not because you have made any research there yourself.
I greatly appreciate your input and your understanding on this topic to me after living with an American that worked for Raytheon Missile systems and many other friends in the Military one of which is an air flight traffic control officer and yes i lived with these guys and all though they have never broken confidentiality they have hinted many things to me over the time I have known them about a great many things and I must say there is what we have been spoon fed and then there is what actually is A. reall B. Possible.I am 40 years of age and for the greater part of my Life I have believed the capabilities of NASA and its scientists and its astronauts and let me say that a great deal has happened behind closed doors since the Cold war.The reality is that the level of covert operations that are utterly hidden from the general public is enough to put many great minds to utter shame. In my opinion to be strung along with the perfect picture that has been presented I have to disagree I feel we can send probes and Robotic craft to the Moon but I can not see any plausible way for a human being to survive many many calculations each resulting in terminal outcomes is simply to numerous even for the technology we have today.I enjoy these talks 8)
+Bob Down Well, I can only say, that I am old enough to have followed the Apollo program from when the different methods to land on Moon were discussed and published in technical publications. One of my hobbies also is pre-CGI film/video special effects and I can only agree with the real SFX experts, who say that MUCH of the Apollo photography could not have been faked on Earth. Also, it seems totally stupid to fake nine moonjourneys with six landings in the midst of the Cold War, since being caught "red handed" and becoming the laughing stock of the century for the whole world, was no option.
I can appreciate that i really do and I am 50 / 50 on the topic but for most of my life I have believed we have walked on the Moon its just now in my older days I question everything.
+Bob Down Well, since i live in Sweden, I use kilometers instead of miles, but the Mach numbers will still be the same.OK, sorry if being a bit rude, but I have tried to discuss so much with real ignorant people, who just don't want to accept that humans have walked on Moon
Yes you are correct in saying I do not know much about space travel but how is that relevant to me asking legitimate questions at least somebody can actually give an explanation of space travel in terms of speed and velocity yet you mention this space travel in Km/h yet it seems apparent that its at least 240,000 miles to the Moon from the Earth its still a long way to calculate so in terms of conversion to Kms/hr that is very interesting indeed! but hey I never claimed to be a know it all I am asking legitimate questions is all but thank you for your description I appreciate it I do find all of this fascinating and we all have questions its not a battle of wills or to define who can use the biggest words or who has the highest UNI Ach and I am not attacking anybody.
+Bob Down You don't seem to know much about space travel. Don't you even know how fast a spaceship going to Moon travels? To get out of LEO towards Moon and into Moons gravity field, you have to reach a velocity of at least 11 km/sec (40,000 km/h). About mach 33.You need to reach at least 11.2 km/sec to escape the Earth/Moon system completely.
+inagod So i'm trying to wrap my head around this and going by these estimations and quotes from James Van Allen himself that you have mentioned above! we are to believe that a return trip from earth to the moon traversing the 1000 - 8000 miles 1st zone of radiation belt followed by 12,000 - 25,000 miles being the second radiation belt then luna landing then re orbit entry to then return home again passing through or should i say traversing through the 12'000 - 25'000 miles of 2nd outer radiation belt followed by 1,000 - 8,000 miles of 1st radiation belt then re enter Earth's atmosphere and land safely? yet according to James Van Allen's quotes you mention here this distance was Q "The outbound and inbound trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft cut through the outer portions of the inner belt and because of their high speed spent only about 15 minutes in traversing the region and less than 2 hours in traversing the much less penetrating radiation in the outer radiation belt."High Speed??? how fast is fast?? Mach 4,6,8, really? now please correct me if i am wrong but how does one travel 25,000 miles in 15 minutes?? or less?? to travel I mean travers 25,000 + 8,000 miles x2 and complete lunar descent and re entry without error or Death how is this possible? and all done in 1969Im struggling to agree with even Dr james at this point.
+Izumi R. But we have proof they actually did pass through safely, the risk was minor, considering the bigger risks they would encounter, like landing a 15 ton spacecraft on another body,250,000 miles away and then return home.
+Izumi R. Dr James Van Allen explained in a few short words how Apollo got through the Van Allen radiation belts safety..... Here's Dr.James Van Allen s actual quote....The outbound and inbound trajectories of the Apollo spacecraft cut through the outer portions of the inner belt and because of their high speed spent only about 15 minutes in traversing the region and less than 2 hours in traversing the much less penetrating radiation in the outer radiation belt. The resulting radiation exposure for the round trip was less than 1% of a fatal dosage - a very minor risk among the far greater other risks of such flights. I made such estimates in the early 1960s and so informed NASA engineers who were planning the Apollo flights. These estimates are still reliable.Dr. James Van Allen, died 2006
