My 1992 300D with 212K. Owned it since 150K. Did 60K in two years without a hiccup. Its always been a noisy car, diesel and what not, but listening to it recently ...
Might i hear some slightly noisy lifter(s) - intermittent..
The constant rattling sound - my guess would be a belt tensioner shock with
bad bushings. Other remote possibilities an injector, vacuum pump or
bearings in the belt drive system.
2009 F150 5.4L engine knocking
This knocking/shaking is intermittent at idle. I have no idea what causes it. But it will happen when the car is warm. If you rev the engine up the knocking will ...
Chances are it is not the cam phaser doing this since it is intermittent. It's slightly possible, but not likely. Most likely it is an oil pressure issue or an oil feed problem. Maybe sludge partially blocking an oil passage or something. The oil pressure needs to be tested with a mechanical PSI gauge and when it starts knocking like that, see what the oil pressure is reading, or have a mechanic do this. However you go about it. If the oil pressure is around 25 PSI, then that is ok. If it drops significantly below 25 PSI, then that is your issue. Things that can cause the low oil pressure issue can vary. It can be from timing chain tensioner gaskets blown, to crankshaft main bearing issues, to the oil pump, to scored cam caps and so on. If the oil pressure happens to be good, then possibly oil sludge in an oil passage causing improper flow through the passage way and effecting the VCT system.
Ford had no idea what was wrong so they replaced the whole truck

Went to two different dealers. One stated this sounds was normal (bs) in
my opinion, and the other one stated an even bigger bs that it was an
exhaust shield warming up. However I found a video that could be a
possible cause to this problem, it's a different model ford but uses the
same engine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0jys2TEXDk.At least I have
it documented with 2 dealers should something go wrong in the future after
warranty expires. Plus I might tear into it once my warranty is up to see
what exactly is the problem.
