This new flag design is great combination of colours and symbols of
Australia's 3 flags beautifully combining into one flag. This IMO has a
more significance to multicultural Australia and the reconciliation between
the Caucasians and Aborigines to unite as one into a better future yet not
forgetting the British colonial past as the colours of the Union Jack is
intergreted into the new design.

Oh, sillouette or stencil alpha/luma with keying out black. Well, toy
around with that, and I'll try if I get a chance and let you know. If it
can work, the flag should wave, and the edges will match, but keeping the
black from waving is key, so when you move "flag wave comp" into your
composition with the skater, you can screen it or key out the black. Sorry,
this is just an off the top of my head explanation that assumes you know
what you're doing in AE and I could be forgetting other factors.

set to the grayscale map, not wireframe, call this comp "Wave Comp". Create
a new comp and call it "flag wave comp". Nest "flag comp" and "wave comp"
in "flag wave comp" with "flag comp" on top. Use a displacement map on
"flag comp" and use "wave comp" as the reference. Set the blending mode of
"flag comp" to "hard light" (i think, try the different "light" options).
Bad news is the black will start to "wave" as well, maybe try a stencil or
sillouette alpha, although that will mess up the light.

Thanks. Haven't done that sort of thing yet. Without trying it, I would put
whatever flag image you intend to use in a comp with the footage of the
skater and animate just the motion of it moving with him. Take just the
layer with the flag and move it (with the animation settings) into a new
comp (call it "flag comp") and give it a black background. In a new comp,
use wave world or another gradient type filter and give it the settings to
be however you want the "wind" to look, make sure it is
mediacproductions

very good! i like it. if i wanted to make a guy skateboarding by holding a
flag that said after effects on it how do i make it wave so it looks like
its blowing in the wind?
