I never heard of this instrument until today, though I've watched this
video a bunch already. This song is very catchy. I have no idea how much
effort one has to put in to play the hurdy gurdy but this guy sounds like a
master. Is this instrument used in a lot of celtic music? I like a lot of
celtic music but have always assumed it was a violin being played or
something.
it is used a good bit in celtic music. I first heard it on the streets of cork, ireland. A funny looking old man, dressed in cool traditional clothes, a Scottish 'man skirt' (sorry, don't know the right term), with lots of interesting objects and instruments and other random stuff around him, was playing this instrument. I stood watching for a long time, it was quite mesmerising and beautiful
+alejandropublicitari no, it's his own composition which he made with the use of a looper. it's a electrically amplified hurdy gurdy - a very old instrument of east european/middle eastern origin.
