A person at school said punk rock was the best rock. The bands he was
talking about were bands like Pierce the veil, Black Veil Brides, etc. Made
me so angry
Sounds like the type of person who wears a nirvana shirt but only song by them they know is smells like teen spirit. Or the people who wear pink Floyd sweaters but only know another brick in the wall. Literal cancer
+Plasticback And you thinking of Wavves as Punk probably pisses off Pennywise fans. and Pennywise fans probably piss off Black Flag Fans. Everyone has a different idea to how it should sound
I love it, I love Focus band of that days , I respect Jan Akkermann !!!
How I wished Jan's play be today , as it was that days !!!! Unfortunately
he has changed it !!!!
Was this from the show introduced by Bob Harris? Half six on a Saturday
night It sounds as if it is to me, as I played it many times. I had this on
tape for many years, recorded from the radio on to an old reel to reel
tape. Lost it some years back. Bob Harris mentions in his chit-chat about
them having 2 or 3 gigs left, including Bristol & Plymouth. Never did see
that Bristol gig for some reason, but I did see them at Bristol in 1974
(Hamburger Concerto) and then again in 1976, just days after Jan had left &
I wondered who this Philip Catherine was! Thanks for posting this and if
you happen to have the rest of the hour-long gig, it would be great to hear
that again too. Hocus Pocus was played really fast, I remember.
One more thing: you'll probably like the Finnish group Tasavallan
Presidentti since you're a Focus fan. Their 1972 album "Lambertland" is on
Youtube, and guitarist/pianist Jukka Tolonen's solo albums "Tolonen!"
(1971), "Summer Games" (1973), and "The Hook" (1974) are, too. He was only
19 years old when his first solo album won the Finnish Album of the Year
award in 1971. A fine talent - sort of like Jan and Thijs rolled into one
person (if you can imagine that!). Listen for yourself. There are also
live clips from 1972 and 1974 on Youtube, too. Enjoy!
Yes, one of the best live versions. My favourite is the one they played in
the Dutch castle in early 1971 which aired on Belgian television. It is
almost identical to the album version recorded a few months later (April -
May, 1971), but without the additional keyboard (piano & mellotron)
overdubs.
Thank you for your kind words! Greetings from Holland!
Focus - Anonymous II - BBC '73
Focus: "The BBC 1 Radio Concert" (JDCD-F01) viny rip - A+ Jan. 17, 1973 at the Paris Theatre, London (broadcast) Recorded for BBC 1 (Bob Harris) Focus In ...
I've never liked how Focus plays this song live. Too rushed, and too
THIN---they need (and still need) two other keyboardists to play piano and
mellotron whilst Thijs plays organ---as in the studio version---with Jan's
guitar and bass, and Pierre's drums. THEN it would be stately and majestic,
like the LP version.
I also like the LP version the best, though the live version from the BBC
concert is pretty good. This is the only song where they could use more
musicians. But it would be weird to see 2 extra musicians for one song on
the stage :P.
