Mr. Conley (I call him) is the reason I am an opera love. I played piano for many of his students in his studio at North Texas State. He admired my playing so much that he asked me to be his accompanist in many recital programs while I was still in Texas. I'll never, ever forget that first High C he nailed in the studio one day. The back of my hair stood up - I was hooked. And he sang that well into his 60s. Solid technique and a great, great friend. I still miss him. Geno527

A wonderful performance with thrilling high notes and excellent bel canto technique. O course, because of the Eurocentric attitude of Rudolf Bing, Conley earned plaudits not at the Met in his great roles but rather in the great opera houses of Italy. Given a choice between an outstanding american singer and some house hack from Europe Bing always went for the house hack. Its all too sad.

Alvah was my maternal grandmother's sister. A grand lady who I thoroughly enjoyed for the brief moments I had with her and Gene. The family is spread out from coast to coast and she & Gene were, as you know, in the middle ... doesn't make for many get togethers :(
