How good is the new Magnavox Blu-Ray player now available from Wal-Mart for $98? Patrick Norton and Robert Heron from HD Nation took a deep look into ...
i am not picking on anybody here. I own one of these magnavox BD players.
Its works pretty decent. Bitching about different movies not playing on
this is not reasonable. I think that if you decide to buy this player, you
might as well be technically inclined atleast to do some basic tech stuff
by urself (like FW update etc). This is not apple, sony or samsung (and
also u paid less than half of what those brands cost) to call the customer
service and expect them to do magic on your player.
- Profile 1.1 BD Player - HD Audio Formats: bitsteam output via HDMI of all
formats incl. 7.1 ch. Dolby TrueHD & DTS HD-MA - HDMI Ver. 1.3 output -
Some models only have coax output for std. Dolby & DTS (not HD audio
formats) - Some models have optical output for std. Dolby & DTS (not HD
audio formats) - Panasonic UniPhier chipset - Plays DVD+R discs, but not
all DVD-R discs (depends on the software used to create) but improved DVD-R
support with the latest firmware update
Absolutely true man. I really would buy an old known brand than a new
unknown brand. Magnavox? Firmware updates via a dvd/cd? All blu ray players
should have ethernet connections to upgrade the firmware. I love my
panasonic dmp bd-35. Its as good as the PS3 and it costs less. Only
downside is that it is discontinued the newer versions are the panny dmp bd
60 and 80. You can still get a bd-35 from retailers and its the best player
ever.
I bought a premium TV (42") recently. It didnt leave much money for a Blu
Ray player. Then I got this one from Walmart. It has been a great
performer. It is pretty easy to use. The picture is amazing. The remote is
flimsy in how its made but it works fine. I did try the firmware upgrade
site and that didnt go as smooth as I would have liked but it was doable.
For the money the Magnavox is a great deal.
Being an employee and working in electronics at Wal-Mart I have sold these
players like crazy!!!! I have only had 2 returns and the reason being that
the retards that purchsed it didnt know that it only works on an HDTV!!!!
Fuck tards!!! I will be buying one myself after watching this reveiw...
this player is a piece of garbage, it will not play Twlilight and probably
many more new releases to come. I tried to download the firmware and found
that it is not even written yet! Customer service is absolutely no help
whatsoever. DONT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!
so is the no update feature a big deal? i dont want to buy this and then
end up having to buy another one since it doesnt support the format. so
would that be a big problem in the near future? im may be getting this
tomorrow, so quick answers are much appreciated.
wow...I didnt know bluray players are so advance. I didnt know you can
upgrade firmware, I didnt even know they accepted firmware. also im going
to research the term "up-converting dvd player". Im guessing that it can
read regular dvd's?
I got one like the one in the video for Christmas and I think it's BD Live
enabled, but I have no use for that. I use it on a daily basis with your
standard def 480p TV and the picture still looks amazing on BDs.
Is there anyway to download different apps other than netflix and vudu that
was already installed when I bought the blu ray player new? I bought the
display unit and it didnt come with an owners manual.
Ditto on the $78 deal. it upscales dvd s to stunning clarity. BR playback
also awesome. menu navigation clumsy, odd audio choices but ultimately
manageable. I love it. We'll see yet how long it lasts.
@fullstack2 Uh, television studios and movie production companies. Chances
are, many of the telivision shows, movies, or whatever you watch, were
filmed with HD tapes, such as D-VHS, DV, HDCAM, etc.
they can't idiot proof it all LOL at comments on retail pages: "what a rip
off, you have to have hdtv for this to work!" or "piece of junk! Taking it
back! Dukes of Hazzard show still looks blurry"
I bought the big brother version of this Blu-ray player for only 74 bucks.
Mind you I bought it on sale. Reg for 129. Over all I am baffled I got a
blu-ray player for so cheap. over all very good.
@Sismiques waaaaaaa...........but still no one has ever heard of D VHS,,,
waaaaaaa whose going to buy it.... waaaaaa i got so irritated b/c i like
hd-vhs waaaaa waaaaaaaa
