I know the Accent and Rio are the same car, but in the crash test of the '09 Rio, it looks much better than this. The dummy wasn't thrown nearly as hard in the side test and it seemed to hold up a little better and airbags performed better in the frontal test. Was it improved for '09?

Nah, some small cars hold up pretty well compared to others and even some mid-zie cars out on the market. Your odds of walking away from the 08 focus stands much better then the last gen focus in a 35mph side impact.

The safety cage didn't hold up well, you can see how the B-Piller bends too much far in. Cars like the 08- Ford Focus do a much better job in side impacts.

wow, i assumed that any car with side curtain airbags and side airbags, and the required 1997 door bars would get at least "acceptable" or maybe "marginal"

if any car crashed from the side if the body didnt crashed the glass will damge ur face the worst accident is from the sides even in the most awesome cars
